Black Sport here. Delivery in June. Pulled the trigger at about 0600 Central. I'm a huge Apple fan who doesn't really "need" one of these things but figured I'd give it a try and see if I like it. I probably will but if not, I'll return it within the 14 day period. Really interested to read what actual users think once this thing starts hitting people's wrists on the 24th.

Apple isn't the only company that experiences this..

Oh come on ;)
Apple seems to be the only company on the planet that consistently underestimate the future sales of their product , year after year, for EVERY single iOs product they've launched.

So either :

1 - they have some totally incompetent people working in their sales&marketing department, who still manage not to get fired after all these years. ( highly unlikely )

2- they constrain initial supply on purpose to create hype. Basic marketing 101 ( very likely )

I lucked out and got my 38mm milanese for a 4/24-5/8 delivery. :D I ordered at 3:02 am EST.

This is a very difficult item to forecast with the way they set it up. There are 20+ SS different Watch models between the sizes and bands. They might have done better by selling all the watches with a default band and then having the band be a separate order. Then they could have just ordered X 38mm and Y 42mm and had more flexibility at launch.

I think they didn't make very many sport watches because they were thinking back to the 5s launch when the 5c (the budget model) didn't sell and they were short on 5s models. I think they mostly made SS watches since most of those still have a 4-6 delivery window. But this being an unproven product, many stuck with the sport. It will be interesting to see if those who were bent on ordering the sport decide to bite the bullet and get the SS so they don't have to wait.

They "constrain supplies" yet simultaneously keep breaking their own previous records for first week sales. They must walk a real fine line.

They want to create hype. And I guess stock is very little for Apple Watch. Even though the delivery time slips, I still don't believe it will sell like crazy. It's marketing nothing else

Now it's looking like July for this one

I ordered the 42mm steel with black sports. I had to order using the app because the website did not go live until 3:05 thank God I had the app ordered at 3:02. It says shipping same as yours 4/24-5/8, Was wondering, do you think we'll get it on the 24th? Also, do you think some people got delivered to you on 4/24 and we were a bit late so we got the 2 week delivery window?

Tim Cook annouced the Apple Watch Sep '14 it now seems many people wont be able to get it until Jun/Jul '15 that is 9 or 10 months, close to a year. This adds to my theory that Apple felt 'forced' into annoucing the Apple Watch earlier than they first intended.

My post in other thread
Android Wear coming to iOS and the generally positive raction to the Android Wear Watches such as the Moto 360 adds to my theory that the Apple Watch was announced before Apple originally intended.
I think it is possible that: Apple intended to announce the Watch mid '15 and ship late '15, but they decided to bring the timeline forward and announce early, partly due to the relative success of Android Wear, Pebble etc.
  • At the 2014 announcement, the demo Watches were prototypes.
  • The march '15 event gave use more information, but it was still a month before we could prerecord. Keep people interested.
  • April 10th preorder and the first time the general public have the opportunity to see it in person.
  • April 24th some people can actually get the product.
All of this to keep people interested while the engineers finished the software and initial production be begin.
  • Now, another month or two until your Watch ships.

Not ready for pre-oder in my European country + Shipping estimates for those countries with availability slipping till June/July + Not so good reviews + Disappointing battery life = I will now wait for version 2.

Pretty sad considering I wanted to buy revision 1.

Woke up for some odd reason at 2:58 EST. still couldn't justify it. Had to follow my gut. I do like it now though, just don't think it's worth it.

That's actually not much money. eBay takes a nice chunk of change out of the final sale price. Then PayPal takes another 2% or so. Add in the $35 tax to buy the watch and all the fees and the person makes probably $65. It's still nice but not the $200 you think he is making. Plus, the downside with eBay is that it is so buyer friendly. Everyone has 100% positive feedback and no one can give you a negative. So the buyers will bid something up and then not pay. Then you have to wait 3 days to give the person a chance to pay and then another 4 days before you can close your failure to pay option so you can re-list. Demand in a week will be a lot lower than right now. If that happens once or twice then the reseller is stuck returning it to Apple. A ton of buyers do that on eBay now.

As someone with over 630+ feedback on eBay, this is spot on. eBay has become a seller's worst nightmare. Sold an old MBP recently for 450ish, ended up with 340 after fees and shipping. 10 auctions in 2015 already won by non-paying bidders. One scammer who didn't want the item anymore so he opened a case as "not as described" when it was accompanied by 20 pictures and an essay description.

Woke up at 3:09 EST and pre-ordered a 42mm Space Grey Sport, delivers May 13-27. Wondering if they're going to be available in the stores for pickup on April 24, or online only?

Sorry, showing a 4-6 week delay is not hype and not what any company really wants. More people would probably see that and not bother than think 'OMG that means the watch is super popular and I have to have one!'.

I have a feeling these shipping times are going to improve pretty quickly. I heard the Edition was quoting an August ship date and now it's July.

Like others have said what do you expect Apple to do? Manufacturing takes time to ramp up. They cannot instantly reach full capacity. Issues must be worked out. How many do you want them to have sitting in a warehouse before the sell them? 2 million? 10 million? 100 million? What if some problem is found after release and you have $100 million iPhones boxed up that need a patch? Be realistic. Trust that these people know a he11 of a lot more about running a business than you do and are doing it the best way possible.

Apple is also the only company, year after year, that sells more than any other company. It's because people WANT their products, not because of supply restraints.

If Apple comes out and says they only sold 100,000 watches - okay - supply is being constrained. But when they come out and say they sold 2 million - 3 times the total number of android smart watches sold in 2 years, then it's not supply restraints.

I over slept. Will now need to purchase a counterfeit "Happy Watch" from street vendor. Hey, at least it'll have been made in the same country as the official Watch. Appearances are everything!
