Indeed. From what I read here it was ugly, undesirably square instead of round, and the price! Who would pay that? Not to mention that you have to connect to your phone, it isn't fully waterproof (no surfing with it) and the battery only lasts a day!

All these, I read here, were sure to keep anyone from buying it.

Yet another epic fail for Apple

Seriously, what percentage of the population cares about surfing? How many have _ever_ gone surfing, and how many do it often enough so that taking off your watch would be a hardship? Watches for surfers are a tiny, tiny, niche market.

----------

Then why does this never work for Apple's competitors?

I hear the latest Samsung phone in the UK is shipping in limited numbers. Haven't heard anything about queues

I ordered mine, 42mm SS with sport band, at 3:27 AM Eastern time. Delivery estimate 4-6 weeks.

I do not agree that you can do everything with the iPhone that you can with the watch; I am most interested in the fitness measurement features and anything else is a bonus. Yes, there are other fitness wearables, but I much prefer Apple products over brand X. Everything I have ever bought from Apple has been absolutely first class and trouble free.

Why buy anything else?

I had the silver sport 42mm with the green/yellow band in my basket with 24/04 shipping date.. Bottled it though, will see how everyone else likes theirs first.

well my wife is not happy. we got a try on appointment for 10am tomorrow, but by then the watch she wants (apple watch with pink modern buckel) will likely be in Aug or September.

Wait.... I just realized my wallet is happy. Oh thanks Apple. :)

lol..... Apple is smart cookie...

They catch them in the 'net' then they wait till they burn slowly...

I had a feeling Apple would throw a curve ball here..... As they always do...

So :p

If anyone thinks this is a first.. It's clearly not,, It happens every time Apple release something new...

Just once i'd be amazed if Apple ever releases something and shipping is 24 hours and *stays that way* but well... (I'm wishing for the rest of u lot)

Or you could just order it now and cancel tomorrow if she doesn't like it. And the wallet is said again...

I kept thinking I was being ridiculous by planning to order it on the stroke of midnight, since, unlike iPhones, there would be no way a watch would sell out immediately. My 42mm Space Gray set for delivery April 24th disagrees with me :D

This is midleading its 4/24-5/8

not that surprising to me. i was talking with people at work and we all agreed we weren't actually sure how we would use it, but that everyone wanted one. demand was always going to be high initially, but Apple still needs to build on the momentum.

Didn't get up early enough, huh? That sucks!

Oh, and btw...Apple is smiling from ear to ear right about now because they just realized they sold more watches in 2 hours then Android wear sold all of last year. #actualnumberstrumpbadpress

Let them smile all they want, the point is Steve took pride in their products whereas Tim seems to be content boasting about how many gazillion units they sold.

The 2007 Iphone keynote was awe-inspiring you instantly new it was going to be a game changer. Same with the Ipad, although it was less revolutionary, but it was clear from the outset it was going to change the way to consume media, surf the Internet etc. Now with the watch, I don't know it looks like ok folks lets rush it to the market, and then figure out what to do with it. Point is, the Iphone and Ipad had a mission, I don't see any for that watch.

I have no interest in the Apple Watch even as an iPhone 6 Plus owner. However congrats to all of you that are getting your watches ordered today!

Production issues have no doubt contributed to the low supply, and I'm sure they intended to have these ready both sooner and more quantity than now......but this will work out well to generate a lot of holiday buzz. No matter if you intend to buy one or not (I'm leaning no right now), this will be the hot gadget come Christmas.

After watching many reviews, The Verge's really hit home how completely useless it really is. The whole thing is poorly executed and what makes it so poor is that it's totally reliant on your iPhone to function. Also, the speed and time it takes to pull data from your phone is inexcusable.

I have no doubt people will find a few uses for it, but it's not the game changer Apple tells us it is. the reviews were really poor which Apple can't be happy with or have expected. They are used to the press lapping up whatever they release.

After using my Pebble in work for the last 9 months I can assure you smart watches are not "completely useless". Working in an environment where gloves and heavy overalls are mandatory meant being able to see which calls or texts or emails required immediate attention without having to step away from my work, remove my gloves and open my overalls every few minutes is a god send. Not to mention being able to skip music and adjust the volume from my watch. I now find it hard to live without outside of work too. The Apple watch will do even more than my Pebble!

Why do I need a source to agree with another poster, and state an opinion, Apple should really not be suffering these kind of shortages, every time they release updated, or new product.

Because what you said before was a bunch of things that unless there's a source and/or proof then you're argument doesn't have any merit.

How do you know Apple is purposely scaling back supplies to get into papers? How do you know Apple can tell the demand a product is going to have on release date?

So I guess Apple is supposed to have a minimum of 20 million of something of each model/configuration before it ships? Its better to get the product out there, even if its in 5-10 million numbers combined across all models/configurations and catch up to demand than sit there and piss away revenue month after month. You've waited over a year, so why all of a sudden is there a rush to get it in your hands ASAP? Are you one of those that has to have everything before anyone else?

No but to sell out in two minutes is extreme. Same with iPad same with iPhone, yes be sold out before the end of launch day yes two minutes no.

I ordered within 10 minutes of the apple store comming back online and i got 4-6 weeks on the stainless steel version with the sports band. This is really disappointing.

But i guess the reason for this is, that i ordered at the german apple online store. Delivery dates outside the US are always a little longer and slip more quickly in my experience.
Well, maybe you're right, but I (and others here) who ordered from the US had similar shipping dates. I ordered at 12:03am PST and got "available to ship 4-6 weeks".

I don't think the US is getting preferential treatment. If nothing else, the pre-orders started in the wee-hours of the morning in North America. The Aussies had the best deal —*they could visit the retails stores in the morning to actually see a watch before pre-orders started in their afternoon.

I won't sue; but when there really are just a few watches available on April 24, it's misleading to call that a "launch", especially after spending $38 million in March to promote sales of the product.

Geez, Apple's website is still trumpeting "available 4.24.15" when in certainty there will be no watches for sale at this time that will be available on that date.

A few? A few thousand? Where do you get your figures from?

So I'll ask again, is Apple supposed to have 20 million of something built up in inventory so this doesn't happen? WTH do you want Apple to do?

Maybe we should go to this system where its only available in US first, then break it down by states with the most population, wait for those to catch up, then offer to other states and once those catchup, move to a different country and do it all over again. /sarcasm

The same exact thing was said about iPad. No one really knew why, or even if they needed it. "We have computers and laptops...we don't need another dumbed down device with a small 9.7" screen, no inputs, etc" We all see how that turned out. For me at least the watch has great mission & purpose. Just for the fact I don't have to take my phone out when I get a text solves a great problem for me. Apple has a pretty good track record when it comes to deciding what we need and why we need it, and what we'll do with it. I bet the watch evolves into another huge product for apple. We shall see. I can't wait to hear how fast it sold this morning and how many units were actually ordered.

Apple isn't the only company that experiences this. When something comes out thats popular and people want, there are almost always issues with inventories. Just because Apple gets the headlines, doesn't mean it doesn't happen to other companies.

I'll give you an example...

Dodge released the 707HP Challenger Hellcat. Orders INSTANTLY went full when they were available for ordering. Dodge even has a system that only allows dealers to order under certain conditions (an allocation system). Even with that, the demand was STILL so great that they had to stop taking orders for it. They simply can't make them fast enough and there are parts shortages.

I don't believe any company can accurately predict how many of something its going to need and its better to have less of something than to make a crap load of something in hopes that it will sell. Look at what all these other tech companies do. They build up crap loads of supplies and they just sit in a warehouse waiting for someone to buy it. Its a huge risk...and a very expensive one at that.

There's only so many hours in a day, so many workers you can have, so many parts you can get, so many pieces you can build.

Damn, I woke up at 9.30am forgetting today was the day after all that wait. Now my 42mm Space Grey Sport is June too...bah.

Looks like most of the forum has gone for 42mm Space Grey too - Apple should realise lots of people like black/grey/gunmetal type colours and offer more.

I also ordered a black leather loop bracelet to go with it, looked quite mean in photoshop mock ups.
