Steve would never have let 3 versions that have no functional difference other than a "trim" level make it to market. Steve's version of an Apple product was a single form that offered the best quality, function and experience to as many people as possible. Apple used to pride itself on making one thing that was the best that it could be and overall gave the best user experience.

If this was a Steve product, there would be one trim of watch in the two sizes with the different band options. The design and interface would have been much more refined and the true innovative parts would be much more up played. My goodness, Apple created a new type of aluminum for the sport watch and it is hardly mentioned. There is a brand new UI and UX that has the potential to set the bar for every wearable product that comes after it. Instead, the only piece of prevalent marketing Apple seems to have out the is "Hey everybody, we're making a watch! Look how cool it is."

You're wrong. That's just what Ashton Kutcher playing Steve would do.

----------

I seem to recall a black MacBook that was priced very differently from even a loaded white one. Or is color not trim?

Imaginary Steve does whatever you want him to do. He's always on your side.

Like that first generation Macintosh computer sold for 1 Million? ;)

Gold watch is only expensive for the poor.

Those underlined words are mere speculations.

Is the first generation Apple watch one of only 50, handmade by Jony himself? No? Well what a stupid, irrelevant point you've just made.

I think that Apple is going to think that they are only fashion... not an hi-tech co.
The demonstration, in my modest opinion is to hire people like Angela Ahrendts, whose cv is impressive but it is too fashion like...
I'm sorry: target price are totally out. Somebody said: my omega is increasing the value. I agree totally. My Panerai was sold for 4 times the value I paid for it. No luck in buying a watch whose value wil be 0 in 2 years, and whose price is 4000 dollars...
Totally wrong target this time... I'll buy a Mac Pro... :D

I think you need to see a doctor

Yeah the 6 macs comment says it all... n00b who stocks up on everything Apple. I'm more like 10-15 Macs (Plus, PB 520c, Performa 5200, Performa 5500 (black), Bondi iMac, Green iMac, G4 cube, G4 Mac Mini, G5 iMac, Core Duo iMac, Core 2 Duo MBP, i5 Mac Mini, i7 MBP), 2 iPhones, 1 iPod, 1 Newton, 1 Apple Watch (~1997 style) and many more.

Not saying this makes me better but I think the new generation of fans live in avery different climate.

I have a Tag watch I bought 5-6 years ago for around $2500. If I sold it, I could probably get roughly $1500 for it now as its in near mint condition. An Apple watch with a degenerating battery that will be obsolete within 2 years will lose 95% of its value in 5 years.

I seriously don't understand the purpose of the Apple Watch...and I've owned 6 Macs, 4 Apple TVs, 7 iPhones, 5 iPods and 5 iPads.

I completely follow your point... I have a Tag and an Omega Seamaster - They are pretty constant in their value..

I could easily see someone paying $4k for a gold Apple watch if it wasn't an non-upgradable gadget. They have shown us the way with iPhones and iPads - they get updated (they don't really have a choice in a market where competitors come with 4-5 models a year)...

Let's stretch it and say they make it a two year update span to make it "worth it"... I know Tag releases new models as well, but new Apple Watch will make the old look.. Well old...

Madness....another watch collector here with a couple of Tags (including a very limited edition one), and a Zenith.

All my watches will be worth between 70-80% of their original value in 10 years whereas if I buy one of these ridiculous Apple Watches, it'll be worth 10% if not less within 2-3 years.

The whole notion will be nothing more than a fad for celebrities and geeks and nothing more. Unfortunately I also believe this will hurt Apple substantially.

They're ugly, look very awkward to use and the Microsoft option appears to be much better.

Who would pay $5,000 for a watch that will be obsolete in 1 year when they launch Apple Watch 2? You can buy a real Swiss watch that will keep its value for life.

Not every day Joe...

I wonder how difficult it would be for Apple to swap the internals, screen and sensor. Its not as if it gets fatter every year...thinner could still fit with a gap internally

Also, why should I spend the same amount on a tiny watch that has relatively short battery life and dependent on an iPhone whenbi could get an iPad?

I'll stick with my Breitling. $500 is a stupid amount to spend on a smart watch that'll be dated in a year.

You cannot compare an iPad to Apple watch. Different products with different usage scenarios

If the iPad is what you want, I don't see why you would want us to convince you to buy an :apple: Watch instead. What a silly question!

Firstly bro, your tag watch probably sucks. I'd go as far to say all Tag watches suck. They would have to be one of the most gaudy watches ever made in the history of humanity. How can I make this statement? I've owned over 50 watches in my life time from LCD digitals to traditional analogue solar powered time pieces. Therefore my opinion carries a bit of weight.

Soz to break the bad news to you about your tag, you'd prob be lucky to get $15 for it today.

If you haven't guessed I'm taking the piss out of your normative post. It gave me many lolz.

Whoa. Issue is how long will the watch last? Will you just get it melted down once the technology becomes obsolete?

Especially at the prices Apple will be selling these for. (Not to mention they're kind of ugly.)

Sorry but a rolex gold watch has not so much difference price than the stainless steel one...with the same mechanism..so where is your point?

I'm talking about material. That means the stainless one has massive margins for the ones that make them compared to the gold one (unless they're little gold in them...).

Golden Apple watch on my tattooed wrist and Beats headphones on my forehead - the (tattooed) bitches will be all over me!!!

Since phones are worth 20-25% of their value after 4 years, you are wrong. In the case of something like that, which has an esthetic value outside of its gadget value, the devaluation would be even slower. So, the low end model would probably be worth 50% of its value after 5 years and probably 20% after 8 years (Considering you paid $350, that's not bad at all). The stainless one would be worth about 35-40% after 8 years (again not bad for something that's a lot more than just a watch).

The top end models would devalue even less since they're esthetic value is higher and their intrinsic value is also higher (in the case of the gold model). For the top model, I'd expect it to be worth 50-60% of its initial value after 10 years.

The most annoying thing in this forum is the closed reality in which most of the users here live in.

The Apple Watch starts at just 349$ which is good price for this kind of advanced technology and beautiful design. This is the Apple Watch for the most users.

Then imagine, just imagine! There are people who can buy stuff for 4.000$ and absolutly DONT CARE if it will be outdated in few years. Yeah, the same people that buy Luis Vuiton or Prada hand bags that cost almost the same and in just few years may or may not look like a trash, because no matter how much care you have, it will certanly lose most of its shinens. There are people who spend 4.000$ to go for a one week vacation. There are people who spend that kind of money just to celebrate their birthday for example and there are people that spend that kind of money before you take your first cup of coffe. Yes, there is a market for expensive stuff, because if you earn 500k a year, you dont care if your silly 4k$ watch is not going to work within two years. These same people have several high end expensive watches and absolutly DONT CARE to have a gold Apple Watch just for the fridays or while jogging. And yes, they DONT CARE if you think they look silly changing their Hublot with a gold Apple Watch for daily use, because they are rich, and you are poor. The gold Apple Watch will be absolute hit in the high-end market where the people dont have to chose between buying Rolex or gold Apple Watch, they just buy both. Finally, I know you would be probably shocked but many people dont chose what to buy depending on the resell value they may get in the future.

Im going to NY in April so I hope the Apple Watch is released by then and I can buy it cheaper that here in Spain.

One important thing it probably cannot do that tends to be an issue with sports. Survive water.
When I do sports I like to not worry about water from my body/atmosphere/beverages. This I’m betting will not stand up here.

It perfectly good to resist those things. You could have gone on the Apple web site and found that yourself instead of spreading FUD. It's not good to swim or take a shower with.

And how much do i have to pay for a smart watch thats battery last long enough to not need charging midway through the day, or lasts long enough i can use it as a sleep monitor ?

apple iwatch, yet another style over function miss from Jonny Ive-missed-the-point
