I wonder if I'll be able to get the black sport model for my birthday in July? I really want to try one before I order online or maybe by then, people will just be able to walk into a Apple store and get one.

Although not quite as classy as say, a leather band with a stainless steel watch, the black sports band with the space gray aluminum is pretty epic looking.

uh its not that bad, they only sold 5.5 million macs last quarter. To sell a million watches in a day is pretty good when you compare it to something sensible like the mac. Not every product they release will be the next iPhone.

Never mind, you missed the point. Read it again... and again...

Most early adopters ordered at least 2 and then cancel after try on. And scalpels ordered multiples.

Try 500k as legit interest and purchases for personal use.

Over half a billion dollars in worldwide revenue. I wonder that compares to how much the people who spin those watch sales numbers negatively have made in their entire lives to date?

I fail to see how this is meaningful data. Only Apple has meaningful sales data. Anything else is just BS.

more than anyone else, but seems a bit small?

I'm not following your logic.

How can it be more smartwatches than anyone else... and still be small?

Fine... how many smartwatches should Apple have sold on the first day?

I get it. Apple sold 10 million iPhone 6 the first weekend. So by comparison... 1 million smartwatches is a lower number.

But you can't exactly compare sales of a smartphone to a smartwatch.

You can... but it doesn't really say much.

Just want to point out this important paragraph at the bottom of the article:

There are a number of variables to consider when interpreting these Apple Watch pre-order estimates, including that data was limited to the United States and likely extrapolated based on a relatively small pool of consumers. Apple has not provided official sales figures for the Apple Watch, nor did it provide comment on the accuracy of this data, so the exact number of pre-orders Apple received remains to be seen.

I was wondering if Apple was going to release sales number over the weekend. Maybe tomorrow.

So where is everyone who was calling it a failure now? Hello? Where did you guys go?

Did Apple just sell more Watches then all other smartwatches combined in one day?

Over $500 per watch is also above the list price for the cheapest Mac (entry Mini).

I doubt that Apple has ever come close to sell 1M Mac Mini's in one day.

It's still on the front page though. Your headline will get tweeted out, not the paragraph on the bottom. In fact that's where I first saw your article...in my Twitter feed.

Although impressive, I expected at least as much. Several people are ordering more than 1. Interesting this information was put out on a Sunday.

I didn't know you could order more than one? Is this definitely true?

I think its safe to assume that the vast majority of readers will understand that unofficial numbers are unofficial, and the word "estimated" means estimated.

Yes there are those who believe that statistically sampled data is meaningless. Those became the losing baseball teams after Sabermetrics and other statistical methods were introduced to the sport.

If these statistics turn out to be representative, this is a good, healthy start for the :apple:watch. I don't believe the launch sales though will be representative of the final demand for this product. Most of us have not even held, let alone tried on this product at launch. We bought it based on our expectations of what it will add to our lives. I think Apple's game is to use us as the launch pad for this device. If it lives up to our expectations, there will be hundreds of thousands, maybe more, people talking about :apple:watch in a positive manner. New product lines normally take a little time to establish themselves, mainly because consumers are quite conservative, but if the market can be persuaded then demand will explode.

If true, this is good news and certainty the first step towards products success. The real battle though is in how we all view the :apple:watch after use. That battle will be one or lost very quickly. If you compared the release of the apple watch to a drunken bar fight, the release sales are akin to the shoving at the start. A mighty kick to the balls could still be received by either sides.

more than anyone else, but seems a bit small?

That's less than a TINY amount (for Apple), but a HUGE amount for a gen 1 product with no track record. Well done Apple :)

To all the people who inevitably, predictably, have - and will - say "iWatch is pointless", I say this to them - "Okay - so how much MORE pointless does that make all the direction-less, cumbersome Android smart watches?"

You guys call that small? Look up the US population. That is an enormous number, especially when you factor in that it doesn't displace something else in the same way as a phone. The iphone consolidated sales of iPods and other mp3 players, digital cameras, and phones. Mobile phones prior to that consolidated the use of landlines for many people. How many did you guys really expect? Again this is only from the US in pre-orders.

This "article" is pure speculation and borders on clickbait. This is a guess by a data firm. They base it on their hunch. Do not be so gullible.

As for the "scalpers" (lol, autocorrect does NOT like that word), they probably weren't numerous but even so they were still legitimate sales. Besides, people could only buy 2 at most with an account.

Glad to see a strong debut.

But really wondering why anybody would allow anyone to scan their email inbox!

He's got a point though, I believe someone proved that 74.986344% of statistics are made up! :)
