Yes there are those who believe that statistically sampled data is meaningless. Those became the losing baseball teams after Sabermetrics and other statistical methods were introduced to the sport.

I'm skeptical that people would let an outfit called Slice Intelligence track their email receipts. Unless it's being tracked without consumers knowledge?

I tried one on, just because I was stuck in a mall with an Apple Store yesterday. Came away decidedly unimpressed by the demo (they don't actually let you use it at all while it's on your wrist. Lame.)

Thanks for that bit of information. Could you tell us why you weren't impressed? Otherwise it's kind of a useless opinion.

It's still on the front page though. Your headline will get tweeted out, not the paragraph on the bottom. In fact that's where I first saw your article...in my Twitter feed.

The headline reflects that 1 million sales is an estimated figure.

Whatever the number is, subtract 25% because alot of them will be returned.

Yeah, 1 million pre-ordered on FIRST day...
50% will be returned because everyone ordered 2 different sizes just to try...
Another 25% will be returned because they realize the Watch sucks...
100,000 are just developers buying watches
10,000 are just media/reporters buying watches
90% of the remainder are just sheep buying because they have to - because they're loyal to Apple. They'll be in their sock drawers within a week
Maybe there will be 100 people that buy it for real and really use it.
Android Wear has 700,000 loyal customers who love their watches and it changed their lives.

So, Android is winning 7000 to 1.

This is the Android spin we'll see in the coming days....

Over half a billion dollars in worldwide revenue. I wonder that compares to how much the people who spin those watch sales numbers negatively have made in their entire lives to date?

Reread. They don't give you the average sale price overall. Also the study only reports US. Not worldwide. It's going to be much larger that 1/2billion.

Not to mention that this estimate is just the United States. Estimates worldwide I think are around 5 to 5.5 million sold. If that is in fact the case than that is HUGE, especially since it took Android Wear 6 months to sell 700,000 units and a couple of years for the Pebble Watch to sell 1 million. At any rate pretty good. They must only had 1 million for April 24th - May 8th shipment. I think that allotment sold out within the first 15 minutes. Crazy!

A million in a day is incredible. I'd imagine Apple will be putting out their usual "first weekend" order totals shortly.

I'm guessing 2 million in the first weekend (weekend actually being from when they went live on Friday until the end of Sunday on the US west coast).

Wow! What did the iPhone sell like 10 million pre-orders? :D I think 1million+ is a pretty solid number for Apple.

That's the current iPhone, but this definitely beats the original iPhone preorders on 2007. If we compare 1st gen iPhone to 1st gen Watch, this wins.

"Some 62% of buyers opted for the low-end aluminum Sports model, which starts at $349."

People keep referring to the Sport model as low-end. Not sure when a $350 fashion accessory became low-end. Entry-level would be more apt.

Most early adopters ordered at least 2 and then cancel after try on. And scalpels ordered multiples.

Try 500k as legit interest and purchases for personal use.

"Most" is a hasty generalization based on what you've seen people doing on this forum.

The first iPhone in 2007 only sold 600,000 units that weekend.

Just because your not sure why you bought the Apple watch doesn't mean you need to bash Android and everyone else who didn't buy one.

Seriously though, who made you mad?

So where is everyone who was calling it a failure now? Hello? Where did you guys go?

Did Apple just sell more Watches then all other smartwatches combined in one day?

It's an Apple product so a great opening weekend is expected. What remains to be seen is long term sales. Is this an iPhone which continues to gain in sales each revision or is this an iPad which already peaked and is in decline at this point?

I'm not trying to be negative, but it's hard to say if a product is a long term success by the opening weekend.

It's still not a fair comparison though. Apple is coming off a string of successful products. Had the watch come out when people didn't trust Apple that much, it too would've had a similar start to the various Android devices and who knows if Sammy and others would've even released a smart watch before Apple.

Don't forget, this is just the United States. Considering China was part of the initial launch it could easily be 2-4 million sold.

Still think it is odd that one of the preconfigured models isn't the sport aluminum with a black band.

What I don't like is that you have to spend a $1000 just to get a space black SS. It makes no sense whatsoever. Not sure why a Space Black with with sport band wasn't offered.
