I'm willing to get up at 3am EST, order two $700 watches each with $99 AppleCare then go to the store with my wife to pick them both up and from what I understand of this article I cannot do that. Stopping scalpers is great but not at the expense of real customers just trying to buy 2 watches.

I believe if you go to the Apple store with your wife you can each pick up your watches, because you'll be 2 different customers.

reservations, not watches

Now this pisses me off! I was going to buy two stainless steel models and surprise my fiancée with one as a wedding gift. Now I'll need to wake her up at 12:am and have her purchase it (with the money I give her of course) This is so stupid.

it doesn't actually say you can't buy more than one watch. It says you can't have more than one reservation (as in appointment). It even says "item(s)", as in plural. That could of course be referring to add-ons such as extra straps, but considering how many people will be looking at this as a gift, limiting it to a single watch seems unlikely. I don't have any inside knowledge, but that's how it reads to me. I guess it all hinges on the meaning of reservation.

Apple Watch Reservations Will Be Limited to One Per Customer

Got it! Worst case I can give the money to a friend and have him order. But after re-reading the article I think you could be right. The confusion is where the article says this.

"The limit does not apply to online pre-orders that will be shipped to home beginning April 24, although it is possible that Apple will also restrict online orders to one or two Apple Watch models per customer as it has done for Personal Pickup with the iPhone, iPad and other products in the past"

When they say that... It's making me think they're referring to items purchased.

Probably one of the reasons they are doing it I would imagine.

Notice the timing. This is all part of the plan to create buzz and get people thinking that demand is so high, the watch so scarce that they'd better buy one immediately.

Apple typically outsmarts the public and masterfully manipulates them.

How is limiting one masterful? I'm buying two either way. Weather I have a friend buy it or they allow me directly. If anything I see this deterring people from buying it initially who wanted one for their spouse as well.

I'm in the UK and I'm really hoping that I can reserve online for pickup in store on the 24th. I'm working on the 24th and don't really want to take a day off to wait in for something which might not even turn up.

Why can't you pre-order and get it delivered at work? That way, you'll get one for sure. Reservations in the UK aren't confirmed yet.

So if we order online and ship to our house, it will be delivered on the 24th right? Not shipped? Same idea as the iPhone.

Yes. Order early enough and you WILL get it on the 24th.

I work at a hospital so it's not possible to get it delivered to work.

After reading this over and over several times it's my guess that I will be able to order 2 watches online and schedule one reservation to pick them both up.

I'll know sure about 3:02am est Friday. My backup plan will be to get home delivery and take the 24th off.

HD's "artificial scarcity" model? LOL WUT? Every time I walk into a dealer I can barley get out without agreeing to buy a new bike off the floor. Unlike back "in the day" where they were genuinely constrained (don't like it? The guy standing behind you will take your place) they seem to have show rooms filled with bikes. Even though they make most of their money on merchandising the moco shield, IMO.

Back on topic, here's to hoping for allowing two online orders. Would just be much simpler that way than to have to set one up separately under my wife's Apple ID and CC.

As it was explained to me, H-D maintained a level of artificial scarcity when taking orders for their motorcycles. I assume it was a carry over from when they were (if they ever truly were) selling more bikes than they could manufacture. I wasn't aware that they had ended this practice.

Hopefully your fiancée isn't the only person you know. If not, purchase hers and have a friend purchase one for you.

Awww.

He'll want to trade his watch in earlier than that. ;)

You're a sap. In a good way, of course.

I am 100% sap. Good, bad, it is what it is. Even my daughter rolls her eyes at me, and I don't blame her for it. That's me. Take it or leave it.

I am hoping the next release won't be so incredibly better that we will all want to throw our first gen in the trash, but my experience with Apple would tend to indicate that you are correct. I've always waited for the second release of everything except this, for that very reason. On the other hand, there has always been some sort of glaring omission in the first gen that made me hesitate. Like a lack of 3G (iPhone). Or no camera (iPad).

Honestly, the first release of the watch completely solves my problem of not being able to constantly pull out my iPhone to check what the current "beep" means. If it had better waterproofing and a much longer battery life, it would be near perfect for my needs. And by much longer, I mean a week, so that isn't going to happen anytime soon. It just can't with current technology.

So, I'll put up with that until magic happens. Which actually does happen about every 5-6 years, surprisingly enough.

We live in a fantastic time. Truly.
