I'm guessing that they don't really want employees snapping up the Edition.
They don't want anybody buying the Edition. It's a shop-fitting. Store decor. It's not supposed to be sold.

Does it bother you? If so, my apologies about this topic of Apple Press releases including reservations may hurt samsung.
Doesn't bother me, I don't own any Samsung products.
I'm just continuously curious about this odd fascination some Apple fans here have with constantly having to bring Samsung up in conversation and compare themselves with them.
For a company that's generally disliked here, people sure can't stop themselves from talking about them.

They want and expect some people to buy the Edition. It looks geared toward stores in China and financial centers, though. An investment banker who just got a $250,000 bonus could easily get the rose gold with gray leather band for his girlfriend and not think anything of it.
You COULD surprise her with one, then have her come with you to get yours later. Depends on how much you love your fiancée, I guess.
I do kind of wonder how cheap those 1st gen gold Apple Watches will go for on Ebay after 2-3 years when they become obsolete and aren't eligible for OS upgrades anymore.
$1,000? $2,000?
Now this pisses me off! I was going to buy two stainless steel models and surprise my fiancée with one as a wedding gift. Now I'll need to wake her up at 12:am and have her purchase it (with the money I give her of course) This is so stupid.

It depends. If the Watch really takes off and the first Editions are rare, it could hold a lot of its value. If the entire Apple Watch line is a complete flop, it might increase in value (look at the Apple I or Lisa). Most likely, with about $1200 of gold in it, I could see it going for $1500-$2000 in a few years, more or less if the price of gold changes much.

Here's the solution: go to the Apple Store on 4/10, try on a few watches; go home and pre-order one for you and one for your fiancee to be delivered to your home. On 4/24 surprise her and reap big rewards!
Smelt it!

I am supposed to work that day and deliveries typically arrive about 10am. I had intended on ordering 2 and picking them up after work. Just don't think they inconvenience Joe Customer in order to try and stop scalpers.
When you get the tracking number from FedEx. Call them. Tell them not to deliver. Go to the FedEx building after work and pick them up.
The only difference is you have to make one 30 second phone call, and drive to FedEx rather than the Apple Store.
You've survived your whole life without an Apple Watch, I think you can probably survive a few more hours without one!![]()
This indeed is a great idea, I will definitely do this. Because my plan was to order two on the 10th.
Exactly. There's probably enough gold in the Watch Edition to make a nice ring or two.
Apologies is this has changed but I thought they said you can still pickup in store?
This news article is indicating that you apparently just don't walk in a pick up your watches, you make and an appointment to get a watch and you can only pick up one.
Time to stop all those customers in their tracks.
Requiring a government issued ID to buy a gadget??? It's like Apple doesn't want to sell their product.
They're losing it.
I never understood why any retailer LIMITs what you can buy. It defeats all logic.
I could trade it in for about 20 brand new S6 Edge's then the price really takes a dive 6 months later.
