Apple Watch Reservations Will Be Limited to One Per Customer

seriously? you had to bring up samsung again?

you really do have an obsession.

Oh sorry, does it bother you? I see posts mocking apple here constantly and most of them are actual lies flat out and people praise those posts. Then wild fictitious posts and wild assumptions. I hope that bothers you that you call them out?

Help us all out... if you see a post that has lies in it, call them out. A brand new Apple Edition Watch equals 20 S6 Edges.

Actually, I am finding it fun to call out Samsung to balance the ridiculous posts about Apple Watches. Seems a little fair don't you think? The nice witty banter back and forth about the Apple Edition Watch costs close to $1200 to make. True statement or not?

I'm surprised people are more concerned about someone mentioning samsung negatively and not apple negatively - especially the flat out lies.

I am really shocked that people call out somebody if they even mention Samsung but have nothing to say about the person ripping Apple and saying things that are fraudulent. That shocks me the most.

how about you stop worrying about other people and start worrying about yourself. its obviously you're trying to fish people out who don't live up to your standard. how about we stay on topic?

Whats the topic? Apple Edition Watch costs $1200 to make? I am contributing to the real topic here - are you? I reply to the total off topic people. Go back and read... I am offering on-topic discussions and answering the off topic lie posts.

Why don't you write that to the Spectrum guy posting off topic? Honestly... tell me why you don't? Or.. how about you stop worrying. I don't see you posting at all except my post. It amazes me that someone will come out of the woodwork and post to someone asking them to stop saying mean things about Samsung because it's off topic about reserving a watch but they see a post saying Apple Edition Watch costs $1200 to make and we should melt it down as "on-topic". And the person calling me out has not even posted here but I must have offended his friend.

Based on that logic, no one would ever buy alcohol or a car.

I'm pretty sure that most people will not have a problem with verifying that they were the person who reserved an Apple Watch, so that when they get to the Apple Store it won't have been sold to an imposter.

But if you do have a problem identifying yourself, go online and buy it, and it will arrive on the 24th at your home. Then all you'll have to do is open the door.

Are you really that worried though? The moment you sync the device with your iPhone, Apple will know all kinds of stuff about you. After all both your phone and your watch will have a unique serial number tied to your iTunes account. So Apple will know who you are, where you live, and where you bought your watch and phone.

Don't like that? Buy a mechanical watch from a store and pay with cash.

I think you got the wrong end of the stick. I'm not worried about Apple knowing who I am. I just think the "show your ID" thing is nonsense for a retail store selling gadgets. It would be just as daft if they were selling clothes. Imagine if every store did this?

It makes sense for buying a car and alcohol because the stores are obliged to comply with legislation. All stores selling those items have to ask.

I think they're only requiring you show your ID so they can make sure you are the person who made the reservation. They really want to regulate the process this time in order to make sure the watches get into the hands of actual customers and not scalpers.

It's kind of heavy handed, but that's how they want it to work this time around. Once the initial purchase buzz dies down, they'll probably stop asking.

Apple are clearly expecting (hoping for) a high demand. Imagine how disappointed you'd be if you really wanted a watch, reserved one, and then Apple gave it to someone else who saw your name on a screen and claimed to be you.

If I pre-order a Watch, I am totally fine with Apple making sure I am me when collecting it.

I think some whiney babies are making a big deal out of nothing. Why would I give a hoot if some Apple Store employee checks my license?

This news article is indicating that you apparently just don't walk in a pick up your watches, you make and an appointment to get a watch and you can only pick up one.

Rather than ordering online with in-store pickup (in which you pay in advance and they leave the device in the store set aside for you for a week), they are instead offering a reservation with a limited time slot. They will set aside the watch for that window only. The alternative is to select home shipment.

I certainly think they have some anxiety over fulfilling demand, but that is not the same as high demand.

Yeah, and that's fine. But they should have some stock for old-fashioned walk-ins. It's a store for heavens sake.

... whiney babies...
Yeah, we get a lot of that on this forum.

I'll be at work.... I was hoping to swing by the Apple Store on my way home.
Also, there seems to not be a 100% clear answer to the question "does it arrive on the 24th or ship on the 24th". I wish I knew 100%

I would be amazed if it didn't arrive on the 24th.

Another brilliant marketing move by Apple. This will also make the watch appear to be in short supply even if it is not. This will help create a sense of urgency to get one. Apple has the pedal to the metal on this one.

My review unit just came!! :D :D

See you in the queue... NOT.

I'd say it's even lol

Today, sure. But two years from now, you'll want to trade in your watch for a newer model, and your wife will still be the most important thing in your life.

Congratulations from me as well. Marriage is scary at first, then totally great from then on. I wish you well. Truly.

Sean

I was totally joking about "being even" lol. She means everything to me. Thank you for the congrats and sound advice. As the date is approaching,I'm getting excited, nervous, but never been more sure about anything in my life. Thank you Sean.

So if we order online and ship to our house, it will be delivered on the 24th right? Not shipped? Same idea as the iPhone.

Awww.

He'll want to trade his watch in earlier than that. ;)

You're a sap. In a good way, of course.

well

No one is going to buy these watches. There will be plenty of stock at Apple stores.

This. I've felt odd about the whole thing. At least initially some people will buy anything new from apple, or if they don't mind the cash. So it will sell for sure. But over time. A watch is kind of cooler than this. Even a lucky charms watch. I hate to say that... I've backed up all of apple's products in the past. I was thrilled with the iphone 1. I even like the new macbook.

Maybe if the watch replaced your phone? That would be cool. Eh. :D

haha, your right; but compared to the chaos at the London stores, i remember it to be a zen garden of serenity and tranquility. Or, maybe my starbuck's mocha was spiked.

The "cattle market" was in reference to the Bullring store, Touchwood is a much more pleasant place to visit even though it's a bit small. :)

I'm in the UK and I'm really hoping that I can reserve online for pickup in store on the 24th. I'm working on the 24th and don't really want to take a day off to wait in for something which might not even turn up.

I never understood why any retailer LIMITs what you can buy. It defeats all logic.

Companies dislike scalpers. If the scalpers are successful, it irritates many legitimate customers. If they are unsuccessful, Apple has to process a lot of returns. Apple's purpose is to sell something retail. They are not there to act as wholesalers for the scalpers. In some things such as tickets, there are laws that limit scalping, although they aren't terribly effective. It's better to just deny the dirtbags a right to purchase in the first place.

I'm willing to get up at 3am EST, order two $700 watches each with $99 AppleCare then go to the store with my wife to pick them both up and from what I understand of this article I cannot do that. Stopping scalpers is great but not at the expense of real customers just trying to buy 2 watches.
