Apple did a great job on this Watch

They succeeded where Samsung and others failed.

But this battery life is a showstopper for me. cellular is a nice to have.

The app,e Watch is about fitness. The more focused Apple gets around that, the better the product will be.

They have all failed, since the thing is not usable, by which I mean if you ernestly use it within hours the battery is dead. You can actually barely / partially use it or it's dead by lunchtime..... total waste of time until next gen batteries arrive.

Am I the only person that was horrified by the red crown? Apple designs aesthetically pleasing products. That red crown is beyond horrible. I was shocked at how horrible it looks. It's completely unnecessary and looks ridiculous to me. But maybe I'm the only one. I guess I've never felt that way about anything Apple has created so it was shocking to me.

I love the red crown, it adds just a hint of colour to another bland silver, gray or black.

And no Bluetooth Ant+ support? seriously Apple? Just wasted an opportunity there
What is Bluetooth ANT+? Are you confusing BTLE with ANT+?

As for Ant+ they probably did not support it by intention. Unfortunate in a way - I see that point of view and agree somewhat.

There's also the little detail that ANT+ is owned by Garmin. Not sure what they'd think about licensing it to a competitor clearly intending to encroach on their market....

I'll be holding on to my current series 1. The battery life is still not where an upgrade would be worth it.

Ditto with my Series 2. I get 100+ notifications a day and it will still last 4+ days if I turn off the power while I'm sleeping.

I've had a different experience. The only time mine dies by lunchtime (I put it on at 3am) is when I forget to turn the exercise off on my Series 0 Watch, and 28 months after I've gotten it, the battery is starting to show its age. I've worn it every day, maybe I missed a day or two over the last two years.

I use it to check my blood sugar on a multiple times per hour basis, plus exercising 30-45 minutes/day, and checking it when the phone rings, among other things (time, weather - I work in a building with no windows, ring status, SecureID).

Anyone know how much AT&T is going to charge monthly for these?

"Special Deal" is a lie that I've heard too many times.
$10 on top of your plan is what I've read and they're also going to give you 3 months free and waive activation. Same with Verizon. If ATT, Walmart or BestBuy does a Series 2 trade in that's decent I plan to updgrade

So it seems that sloths like me that always have their iPhone on them, don't workout and don't get phone calls will get better battery life than our Series 2.

I put my watch on the wrist at 6AM and take it off at 11:30 PM every day and always have 50% battery left. I'l probably have 60%+ on the new one.

Define: "decent" for trade in. Most of those trade plans kind of suck, unfortunately. I suspect this is because AW has never had LTE. LTE devices are always worth more on the secondary market.

My limit is $5, so I guess this is a no-go for me. I'll upgrade my Series 0->3, non LTE.

If I was a sport owner, I'd absolutely go for the non-LTE if you're not going to be out jogging without your phone or something. I cannot think of when I'd use the LTE option, not really. I want stainless, so I'll probably give it a whirl for those free months and switch it off after.

Nobody wants to know if you have to pay more to have LTE services on your Apple Watch?

Do you use the same phone number as your iPhone?

Can it have it's own separate phone number?

What if my cell provider does not yet support "Apple Watch LTE"?

These are better questions than complaining about 1 hour talk time I think.

Some of these are answered in the article, one was answered in Cook's presentation itself, and others are available. Yes, you can use the same number as on your phone; there's a list of 4 carriers who will support the watch from the get-go; if you're not using one of them I understand your desire to know if you could use one of them for the watch but keep your service on your phone (but might be time to switch, to consolidate). The devil's in the details.

RE: The "red dot" on stem. When the first AW came out third-party companies sold little adhesive "dots" in various colors, that could be affixed to the stem. Personally, I like the dark aluminum watch with the red dot. Your opinion may vary. :)

RE: Talking to your wrist. The comments I see that raise this point seem oblivious to AirPods.

Trade in as in trade in my AW2 and pay $99-150 for the AW3 with LTE. ATT would make it up on the backend with the $10 fee monthly fee and selling the used AW2 for about $275 since Apple dropped the series 2 but kept the series1 that doesn't have GPS

I was surprised Apple did this. In the first gen, the red crown meant you worked on the Apple Watch project. It was a mark of pride for the team.

Nothing’s sacred I guess. :)

If you don't have an active data plan, it means you're using BT which should give you ~18 hours of battery life. What the article is saying is that you can get 18 hours of battery life on the LTE model, as long as 4 hours of which are using LTE and the remainder is via a BT connection. Since you won't be using LTE, you should be getting ~18 hours.

So without LTE usage, the battery life should be identical to the Series 2?

not according to the pictures on Apple's website.

Look again.

do you need the apple AirPods to use the phone capabilities of the apple watch or will any bluetooth headphone work? I assume there is no speaker in the apple watch.

I'm seriously impressed they managed to squeeze an hour of cellular talk time out of this thing so small and on your wrist. I mean for real people this thing has to transmit and receive from the nearest cell tower could be a mile away or more. They have definitely performed some radio magic here to get this sort of efficiency.
