That was me though :) You are correct and I didn't add the fiver a month, so it is basically 6 and half a dozen. I personally prefer to pay outright, but can see why people go for spreading the costs.
Ah sorry! Yeah exactly!

Theresn't a standalone SS watch. All steel watches have LTE, though you could buy it and simply not get a contract.

I've had a tweet from EE customer service saying £5 this morning, so another datapoint there. And if there is a 24m lock in to that tariff you can still change devices* so people planning on upgrading the watch annually will be ok I'm sure.

* Done this many times with my phone, don't see why a watch would be different

Thanks.... missed the fact you can't order the series 3 in SS without cellular.
Now I have to decide whether or not I want to pay for something that I will have no intention of using.

I guess it depends what your current position is, I have a S0 watch so the device itself is a great upgrade (processor, storage, water proofing, sensors, display). If I had a S2 already it would be a tougher choice.

ETA: I see you have a S0 too

EE just called me, he wanted to sell me a watch. When I said I'd ordered from apple and needed to add it to my plan, he had no idea. Thought it was probably free to add?? Suggested I call back tomorrow.

It’s just madness, how hard is it to fling an email around the company with prices on!

Just been on the online chat. There is no additional charge if you buy from apple. Just uses your contract data, mins etc. I have a screen shot but don't know how to add it to here?

Got a different version

I'm pretty sure is £5 a month.

The EE website also says this in FAQs....... so seems like is all an automated process to add on the plan.

Handy hint: If you want to use data from your Apple Watch Series 3 (4G), you’ll need to buy an EE Apple Watch Series 3 (4G) data plan through the Apple Watch Series 3 (4G) app on your phone.

Info: You are now chatting with Suresh.
Info:
Suresh: Hi, welcome to EE, the UK's biggest and fastest network. I'm Suresh on Service Chat. How may I help?
Nicola: Hi. I took out an EE contract earlier this week. I have preordered an Apple Watch 3 with cellular from Apple. How much will it cost me to add this to my plan? Or has this not been decided yet?
Suresh: Hello there Nicola, good morning, thanks for joining EE
16x16_smiley-happy.png

Suresh: May I ask if you've bought the apple watch through apple?
Nicola: Yes, preordered direct from apple
Suresh: Great, in the case EE won't bill you for the Apple watch.
Suresh: You'll however need to connected the Apple watch to the phone you've got on contact with us.
Suresh: Once the watch is connected to the phone, you'll then be able to use the watch to call, text and data and that will come off your monthly allowances.
Nicola: Even when it uses cellular on its own?
Suresh: Yes even when it uses the cellular on it's own it'll come off the monthly allowances.
Nicola: This statement on your website led me to believe there may be an additional charge. Handy hint: If you want to use data from your Apple Watch Series 3 (4G), you’ll need to buy an EE Apple Watch Series 3 (4G) data plan through the Apple Watch Series 3 (4G) app on your phone.
Suresh: Yes, but that's applicable when you buy it through us on a monthly plan.
Nicola: Ok, so it won't cost me any extra and I'll be able to use it on the cellular network without my phone?
Suresh: That's absolutely correct, Nicola

Nicola Fantastic thanks.
Suresh: You are most welcome!

Suresh: Is there anything else I may assist you with today?
Nicola: No that's all for now, thankyou
Suresh: No worries at all, it's been lovely dealing with your query and chatting with you this morning
Suresh: Have a lovely day and take care.
Suresh: Bye now

They seem to contradict themselves too much. Why don't they just put something out on their website?

Anyway, you guys on EE, which contract do you have?
I'm currently on Three because of the Unlimited Data plan, plus Feel like home - which is great if you're a traveller - but seriously thinking of switching 4 the watch

You would think a business that has secured themselves a place as the exclusive Watch Cellular provider in the UK would get this bit right..

I think they are the only network with the tech in place, not sure they have done any exclusive deals. I'm on three and EE have given me a fantastic deal to switch. I'm switching because of the Watch.

What offer??

2gb, 1000min, unlimited texts for £17.99 with a £9 discount for the full 12 months. The sales assistant seemed surprised he was allowed to do that deal.

I think people are talking about different things here....

If you buy the Apple Watch on a plan via EE it will be for 24 months so cannot cancel because your monthly payments are part service payment and part payment for the watch.

If you buy phone direct from Apple and add on to existing iPhone call and data it will be £5 per month (this has been documented via Macrumors news so I have no reason to believe this amount to be wrong) which they prob will let you cancel at any time as it will likely be treated as an 'add on'.

The EE deal is actually not too bad (compared to paying over 24 months on Paypal credit) but they don't have a full selection of watches and bands available and of course it ties you into EE for 2 years for your iPhone also.

I wonder if you can add an Apple Watch 4G if you are using a PAYG sim, with the watch just sharing data until you've used it all and then have to top up? That would be perfect but no doubt they'll want you in the clutches of a contract instead.

They said no ever time I asked this. It also states online that you need to be on a contract.

Is the one of the left your offer? It shows on their website. The one on the right sounds a lot more appealing.

Having said that, Apple Music traffic won't affect your data allowance, so maybe 2GB are enough?

I'm planning on going to the 22GB SIM-only next week when my current tariff runs out. It has greater international roaming built in. New to check the small print, however as it isn't clear which extra countries they are.

If you have a read through the past comments several advisors have suggested otherwise on the stated £5 a month add on deal.

Understandingly confusing for most wouldn't you say?

I hadn't seen that. That's interesting. But it's also a fiver more expensive. Then add in another 5 for the AW. It comes to £31
