People already pay gym memberships and for health tracking apps. $10/month to be able to track your runs/rides without the need to bring your phone seems well worth it, in addition to being able to make a call should there be an emergency.

I'm sure plenty will go with it. This pricing just cuts out the people that didn't really have a need for the feature but thought it was cool.

Though I posted earlier that this doesn't seem to provide enough value, I should have also noted that there may be a creative app developer that will come up with the killer app that makes it worth having internet on your watch and leaving your phone behind.

I don't know what that could possibly be, but I won't leave out the possibility that someone will create a use case that is indeed worth $10 a month to many people.

I can accept the $10/month extra... Now... I have a Stainless Steel and Alumnimum Apple Watch that I would like to upgrade to S3 + LTE. Has anyone heard/confirmed if it’s $10/device attached to your line or $10/line to accommodate devices?

I can asssume with carrier greed, but $20/month when I can never use both watches at the same time will be frustrating.

It'll be $10/mo PER WATCH.

So if you have two LTE watches, you are paying $20/mo to get them connected.

Also, if the point of this feature is to use data when you don't have your phone (which means it is not using data) why would you need to pay any more at all?

If it is sharing the same data and phone number and it is designed to be used by only one person and only one at a time, it seems wrong to charge for it.
Stop being logical, the carriers hate hearing sound logic!

Bell’s $5 plan sold me on the AppleWatch LTE. $10 is too much for an occasional use of cellular. $5 is just right.

But it got me thinking. What if I used my Watch for more than just occasional use and more like my main personal computer? Before the keynote, I was planning on buying a new iPhone and maybe upgrading my Watch.

But now I’m thinking about not owning an iPhone at all. In this scenario, my Apple Watch and AirPods would be the computer that I always have with me. I’d use it for messages, phone calls, music and would ask Siri questions for what ever else I search on my iPhone for today.

For actual work, I have an iPad Pro that I often carry with me as a binder under my arm. For photography, I already carry my Sony a9 with me.

I would think about it if it were $0.99 a month. This requires virtually nothing from the carrier and its not like the watch is going to be hogging data. This is basically just free money for them. I'm sure the carriers LOVE the LTE apple watch more than anyone else. I think it would be great to have on the rare occasion I can't take my phone but now that the phones are water resistant there is virtually no place I wouldn't take it anyway. Sure if this was free or super cheap per month I would intentionally leave my phone and just use the watch for some things but there's no way I'm paying that much for that tiny convenience.

Your god dam*nd right!!!!! I mean, come on. Your not using additional data from your phone. Your either using your phone.......that you have ALREADY PAID FOR......or using the watch, in which case if you didnt have, you'd be using phone. So, as you said, its NO ADDITIONAL COST to the carrier. WTF!!!!! I would be furious if I was Apple. You put in all this work, shrinking down the tech to get LTE in a watch so it can work independent of phone, all so the carriers can just screw any sales by charging customers to use it. Again......WTF!!!!! It would be like having to pay extra to operate the air conditioning in your car. Or having to pay Sony to operate the Cd player in your car when they first came out. Here you go everyone, now you got great cd sound in your car........that will be $10 a month please.
But we already paid for car, AND cd player????

Well I guess that makes the LTE Apple Watch a no go for me. I was really excited about it - I would love to be able to leave my iPhone at home in certain circumstances, but $10 a month for service is just absurd. I was really hoping that at least T-Mobile would undercut the other telecoms as they typically do, I could definitely handle $5/month. The worst part is, other LTE watches out there are only $5/month. I guess the carriers think, because it's an Apple device, they can charge more for the same service and people won't care. Hopefully they're wrong, and the pricing will drop soon.

Just don't see a big deal about an LTE watch. I love my Series 2 and it does just fine. I am usually not far away from my phone anyways so I don't see a huge plus in buying one. Plus $10 a month is a bit much, I'd say $5 or so would've been a little better for people on the fence with buying one.

I'd like to have a S2 stainless though :) Maybe eBay or Craigslist will have a few on there reasonably priced now! The store was sold out when I went to buy my watch so I settled for the SG... Not a big deal and saved me some cash, but I really like the Stainless or Space Black Stainless.

Same. I got a Silver Nike S2 and really like it, but feel like I'd be happier with the stainless. Eh maybe I'll do the same as you look on ebay down the line.

I wonder if there is value in getting the LTE watch and not adding service. Wouldn't 911 support still be required by law (US)? This would provide the safety blanket people like my wife look for when running alone.

If you need to walk around the world naked without your phone and wearing only an Apple Watch this is fantastic. Otherwise...why?

I was completely looking forward to disconnecting from online obsessions this way, but I can't justify this absurd cost. $5/month would have sold me on something I don't need. I well.

$10 really has me on the fence, $5 I'm sold.

Lots of people saying Android watches are $5, but ATT website says specifically wearables are $10. Do we have confirmation of this?

Great question. They probably block purchase of it without plan info upfront. Will likely have to just cancel the service at end of free three months.

You're paying for everything, you just don't realise it.

Shhhh. Ignorance is bliss.

So, this is a "every 3rd Generation" thing for me, so the cost of this will be:
Non LTE: $329 (I'm buying it in Oregon)

LTE:
$399 Watch
$25 Activation Fee
$360 Monthly Cost
-$25 Activation Credit
-$30 3 Months Free
$180 Taxes and Line Charge Fees (yes, $5/month for this...)
-------
$909 for the base model.

$580 isn't compelling enough for me for something that will be with me and my iPhone 99% of the time

I agree with most of the posters here. This is a clear money grab by the carriers.

Ironically, the one thing I wouldn't begrudge them charging for, the activation fee, is the one fee they're waiving (but what's $30 one time when you're in the subscription racquet). After activation, the watch is just an extension of your existing phone/plan/number. What a rip off.

I'd say a little bit of A (Apple Tax) and B (Carrier Tax). It's the same bloody number, same data plan (I presume?). I was intrigued until I heard this :(

And if consumers are smart, this will be just a bit of dreaming also. There is no way I am going to be talking on my phone and watch at the same time. So there is no reason for any fee whatsoever. Of course clueless consumers like to spend, spend, spend like sheep to the market.
