I thought all Apple Watches had 8GB. They must've upgraded it at some point and since they never talk about it, I don't even know how much storage my Series 4 SS has or why I should care, lol.
The Apple Watch app under general, about will provide the memory size. The 4 had 11.6gb and the 5 26.5 gb.

Well this sucks to know. I am still on on watchOS 6, but its looking like I might have to upgrade next year. Will still keep using it if they continue to provide updates. The Series 3 really does all I need, primarily for timers, track my walking and notifications. I'm wondering if I should go with Silver next time, since the space gray I bought was on the expensive side.

LOL I'm still rocking a series 1 watch and haven't been able to update in over a year--not that there's anything to update to. Last time I updated it took nearly two hours to do the damn thing.

Watch S3 is still current product.
I have an S4 with a mostly dead battery. Can't be bothered to take it in for repairs, so I'm using my S3 Cellular until I can buy an S7 later this year.

Luckily the cellular model has more storage so I haven't dealt with this issue, but I agree that this model shouldn't be sold. It's far too slow and overall I use it (and like it) a lot less than my S4. I don't have any music or apps synced to it at all. I basically use it to check notifications, control music, and use Apple Pay.

Generally Apple tends to update products for a couple of years after they were last sold, but can anyone imagine it getting Watch OS 8 or 9?
wonder if they will sell enough to justify a class action.

I was able to upgrade without having to do this. I have the GPS + Cellular version, which comes with 16 GB instead.
I knew someday it will be worth paying the extra $$.

This is only just now a news item? I've had to use that process on my Series 3 for the last several updates. And I don't keep 3rd party apps, photos, or music on it at all.

I recently upgraded to a Series 5, so I no longer have this problem.
The extra sad news is that Apple support didn’t seem to know this was required. My wife battled upgrades for weeks before Apple finally gave her this solution.

Yet another item thrown to the wayside by Apple?! Come on, I can’t possibly afford to upgrade everything.

Lol and the series 3 continues to just suck.
That thing was such a piece of garbage.

Actually I never had any issue with the AW3, I was happy with it except this update process became unbearable. I do like the 40mm SE display though, remarkable that extra 2mm could make such a difference

Well, 8GB is meagre by 2021 standard. But then again, I have a Series 5 (which has 32GB) yet I can't keep too many Apple Music files in it. There is some sort of limit of how many songs I can download for offline (workout) playback, seems to be limited at around 4GB . Anything more and it will give endless spinning while syncing Music to the Watch.

Why give users 32GB while Apple locked only 4GB for Music? Come on, storage partition is like the old days of Android!!

This is very nonAppleStyle!!
Why do they don’t reduce just a little the size of the upgrade?? It would be not that complicate!! At least for minor updates

from reading the article, it is not clear for me if I have to do the unpair-repair-dance as well with the 16 GB S3 LTE version? I have 8,6 GB of free space left on there! If that's not enough, I just won't update any more. Due to unpairing-repairing in the past I already have 5 "different" apple watches in my Apple Health app as input source and it's annoying. They're all called the same.

You guys would be bitching if Apple didn't support Series 3 anymore and yet if they still support it you STILL be bitching why it's cumbersome to update. When it rains it pours.
You are quite conveniently ignoring that they are still selling it as of today! I got one of these for my daughter as a birthday present about 6 months ago, and while still under warranty, it is having this issue now! I got her the 3 because of the 38mm. How annoying and ignorant of Apple!

Rather than requiring users to clear apps and media from their Apple Watches, iOS 14.6 prompts users to go through the extra step of unpairing and re-pairing.

Going through the extra step? You have no idea what you are talking about, clearing apps is 100+ extra steps. Uninstall all 3rd party apps, remove music, data, pictures, restart several times until AW notices you uninstalled something, and then after the update, install everything back. In-between you run into several bugs.

I had to do this on s3 already for some time and restoring is the way even for an expert user. Cannot imagine my mom going trough the process of uninstalling.
