Fair enough. I kinda like the nike faces though. Look on the Apple store. They have alternative colours too. It’s Anita something a little different that you get with this version over the otherss.
Oh, I love the Nike+ faces, I always have...it's really just the colored backgrounds that I don't like. No biggie though. I know a lot of people will like them.

My guess is that the delay is probably caused by the Nike Run Club app. The Apple Watch Nike+ Series 3 last year had a delayed launch too, and an update for the NRC app dropped around the launch of the new watch. The Nike team probably needed time to optimize the NRC app for the new Apple Watch and they could only do that once watchOS 5 is finalized, hence the delay.

The Nike Run Club app is available in the App Store right? As well as the other Nike Training Club App. So can't these be put on all Apple Watches (not just Nike ones)? So is the only real difference between the versions the bands and the watch faces?

The backgrounds are multi-colored, gray is one of them. But I agree, not only does it use more power, it also highlights the new display in an unflattering way. The watch looks so much chunkier with that black bezel emphasized than when it disappears into the display with a black background.

I disagree. I think that the best looking watch faces are the ones that fill the whole screen like that vapor one. The accentuate the cool curvature and look far nicer than these complicated modular ones.

Pre-order both, go to Apple Store on day 14, return the standard edition. Go home, collect new Nike Edition from mailbox and make out with it.

Yes, the only real differences are the bands, extra faces, and release date.

Sorry to double check, but is there really no difference with the Nike apps? I believe there is a direct link to those apps on the Nike watch faces. If you don't use Nike watch face, is there a "Run app" complication that you can put on the other watch faces on the Nike edition of the watch that you can't on the regular? Or is the difference really only the band, watch face and release date?

Assuming it hasn’t changed this year, the Nike exclusive faces come with a non-removable NRC complication, and a few other swappable complication slots (depending on which face). I actually dislike having to “waste” a slot on the app.

If you don’t use the exclusive faces, you can still add NRC as a complication to the normal watchfaces. I don’t have a non-Nike watch but assume this would be the same there if you have the app installed.

In addition, it is little mentioned and fairly inconsequential in my experience, but there are some colour options for watchfaces (which you can use across all watchfaces where you can set that) that are exclusive to Nike editions too -definitely Volt is one but I believe there’s some other shades too.

Is the reflective yarn only available on white loop bands? Or does it also work on black ones since the white portion is underneath.

And does anyone think they’ll offer the bands separately?

3rdiguy answered that in post #35. Yes, both the Nike+ sport loops are reflective. Apple may offer them in the future separately like they did for the Series 3, but it was several months after launch.

Well, YMMV. We all have our own aesthetic preferences — it’s what makes he world go ‘round. But to me, a light background like this reminds me of this, which depending on your preferences, may or may not be a bad thing. I don’t want to wear a CRT TV from the 1970s on my wrist. ;-) fortunately for me, most of the apps use a solid black background.

The usual Apple strategy to entice us to buy the scraps (or the more expensive ones) first and receive them earlier...LOL.

Hmmm! You saying that Nike ones are the best or cheaper then the Apple Watch regular ones? From what I know they are priced the same and do have some Nike watch faces. How is Apple exactly making you buy the more expensive ones?

Let me explain: The Nike ones have the extras that the ordinary aluminums don’t at the same price point and most people prefer the earlier...who wouldn’t want extras, right? So those people are now faced with a decision to buy now or wait. The more expensive SS watches also complicates the decision by flaunting themselves to those same people. Although expensive, but they are “now immediately” available!

Again, this excludes people who know from the get go what they’re buying and are not easily swayed by the “I gotta have it now” bug that one forum member demonstrated on this lovely thread. And you won’t believe how many are those same people are out there. This is the same group of people Apple is targeting with this marketing/distribution strategy.

Do you have a better reason why the Nike ones are delayed a week?...just a week?

Yes, there is other reasons I think and that has nothing to do with Apple wanting people to buy more expensive ones. Aluminum Apple watches are priced the same (Nike + or Regular Apple Watch) I have Nike + right now on my hand. Yes, it does have some Nike watch faces but not a big deal.
From what I know, Apple pays royalty fees to Nike for every Apple Watch Nike + they sell. So not having Nike + on a launch days is Apple trying to minimise on these fees. Which if that is the case, it is still nasty.... but is not that Nike + ones are superior and the rest are leftovers. To me are both the same. Rarely use the Nike + watch faces anyway. And straps I can buy if I wanted to.

Apple trying to save a week’s worth if royalty fees? For a trillion dollar company?

And the difference between the ordinary aluminum and the Nike Plus might not be a big deal to you but it is to others...even myself. You even chose it over the ordinary aluminum.

Apple knows there are a ton of customers wanting the Nike Plus AW and they are continuing to play the marketing strategy game.

Do you remember the release of the 2016 13” MacBook Pro? Apple released the non-touchbar version first. Do you notice the same pattern?

You don't know the circumstances why I chose the Nike +. I honestly did not give it a second thought and it was more to do with it's band (which turns out you can buy them individually) If the price of these Watches are the same, then can you explain how would benefit Apple to sell more Aluminum Apple watches then Aluminum Nike +? How do they make more money by selling one more then the other, when they are priced the same?

Yes, Nike+ bands are only offered with the Nike+ watches. Forget about being able to buy the bands individually...I’m talking a “first choice” watch purchase here. And you did get attracted to the Nike+ which comes with its specialized, unique band.

How do they make more money on the Nike+? Simple...quantity. Apple is also focusing heavily on fitness nowadays and Nike is a perfect fit...a long established brand associated with sports and fitness and yes, there’s a cost to piggybacking with a brand. But if this means selling more products then it’s a cost worth paying for.

And yeah, you have not recognized my mention of the 2016 Non-touchbar MacBook Pro release...what do you think happened then other than selling the less-equipped product first?

I'm waiting 4 weeks to get the new reflective loop band, even though I ordered it the moment the site was back up.

Ship times on just about everything were pretty much unchanged when I checked out... but the reflective loop band was showing October 16-19 from the beginning.

I'm willing to wait because they still don't sell any Nike branded bands on their own and I know the reflective band will be no exception.

I still have my old Series 3 Nike band (Apple doesn't take your old band when you trade it in), and my old Series Zero while I wait.
