Agreed. While I'm not personally in a position to spend 1000€ more just for a different casing material on a watch, I totally get why some people do, and I think the ceramic casings (particularly the gray one) were the visually best-looking Apple Watches to date. Seemed odd for Apple to drop it with the S4, especially since they probably make a lot more money on them on each watch sold than on the Aluminium/SS Apple Watches.
There are some rumors however that the ceramic edition will return with the S5 later this year.
I wish Apple would let me run the new display on my Series 1. Yeah, it's a bit small but my eyesight is the only thing on my aging body that still works. I miss jailbreaking
There's some speculation that the processor in earlier watches is not sufficient to update all the complications in real time. Because otherwise, there's no reason to restrict it, especially on the 42mm watch, which is essentially the same size display as the new 40mm display, so it would be no harder to see than it is now. And up to the 38mm customer as to whether they could otherwise see it or not. Some would use it, some wouldn't.
Since you have had experience wearing both, is there anything about the ceramic that recommends it a lot more? I can't afford one either, but I'm curious.
They don't smh. And Google didn't announce anything at I/O about the future of Android smartwatches (another smh), Samsung who could've made Android Wear popular abandoned it (I'm assuming) due to them not being able to customize it and make it theirs.

If the cellular version is that great like people keep saying I could definitely see myself leaving my phone at home sometimes and just using the watch and bluetooth buds for quick calls and replies.
Does the 40mm feel any bigger than the 38? I have small wrists, and the 38 is already a bit bulky on me.
Anyone elses have a ton of light bleed on one side? Is this common? Something Apple will repair or something expected with these watches?
Still sporting the Series 1 and I love it. I’m waiting for a version that doesn’t require tethering to a phone, has built in lte, and syncs with mac or ipad. I’d love to ditch the phone permanently.
I believe the world clock complications appear white during the 'day' and black during the 'night'. ?

That would be fine with me as well but didn’t want to get greedy. Ha.
I have very small wrists also. I was a bit worried about this coming from the S2. It actually looks quite good though, and I am very happy with the S4. The S4 is thinner than the S1 through S3's, which may be why it still looks appropriately sized on my small wrist.

The Apple Watch Series 4 was today named one of the Displays of the Year by The Society for Information Display (SID) during the 2019 Display Industry Awards announced at Display Week, a yearly symposium and trade show.
The Displays of the Year awards highlight "the high-quality innovative work taking place in the display industry at every level." The specific category the watch won focuses on "the most significant technological advances and/or outstanding features."
The Apple Watch Series 4 received an award because it features an OLED display that's 30 percent larger than the previous display, without an increase in device size. Additionally, it uses a new display technology called LTPO for improved efficiency, leading to longer battery life.
The 2019 awards cover products that were available for purchase during the 2018 calendar year, and no other Apple devices received awards this year. Last year, both the iPhone X and iPad Pro won "Displays of the Year" awards.
Other 2019 winners include Samsung for "The Wall" modular microLED 8K display, and Sony for its Crystal LED Display System that also uses microLED technology.

not perfect, but i no longer notice the light bleed in typical use cases. i can still see a slight light bleed if i'm in a 100% dark room and i look at the list of apps.
ceramic case maybe returning ! i had not read this. its great news.
i did not buy the S3 ceramic due to price, but always was a big fan of it.
now i know that i would definitely buy it in an S5. white, hopefully. or maybe midnight blue.
That can’t be right.....But, but, but Samsung makes the display.....once again this shows that Apple engineers their displays and Samsung makes them to spec just like the vendor for the watch screens. Congrats Apple......since you don’t know how to innovate......lol.
The main consideration with the ceramic, is it’s highly scratch resistant. That’s really what you’re purchasing with the ceramic model, you have to ask yourself, is that really worth the price tag when the 7000 Series aluminum is fairly scratch resistant? I think the biggest problem the ceramic for most, is it’s just too expensive for the average consumer, where they likely find more value in the aluminum model, or even spending another $200 or more on the stainless models is somewhat steep. But it Really depends on what you value.
