AOD is huge, and I’m stoked to get my Space Black Titanium S5. The S3 will become a Christmas gift for a nephew

It's fairly obvious there's not enough differentiation between the S4 and S5.

No kidding..
I think the "S5" could have been released last year as the S4.

To me it looks like they pulled features from the 4 just to save something for the years Watch.

Pitching for a job I reckon.

Just needs to go all the way and start a podcast to froth all over Apple, like all the other ones do.

I think they are all setting up for their "live show drool fests" right now actually.

Coming from a series 3 looks like this is a decent upgrade for me.

Went into an Apple shop last year during release to pick one up but they had none in stock and I never bothered to go back again. Glad I held off

Can someone confirm these Apple apps are in watchOS 5 or 6?

Calculator, Compass, Maps, Remote, Voice Memos, Wallet

From my perspective, this is the biggest upgrade for Apple Watch ever.

The always-on display is the thing literally everyone has been begging for from the start.

that’s probably why the discontinued the series 4 instead of the 3. Because it’s just so much differentiation between the two...

It’s a nice feature but it’s not as big of a difference like the series 4 was to the 3.

well have to see it in action. I want to know how dim it is exactly.

I just bought a AW4 Gold SS 44MM for $499 from Best Buy. I didn't open it yet was waiting for the key note. Should I keep the AW4 or upgrade to this?

Does it have a cpu upgrade at least?

Yes, S5 SoC, but no details were given. Frankly, the S4 is a screamer, and my Series 3 is plenty fast enough. I have an old Series 0 that is still very useful, albeit sloooowww.

Sort of... while the series 5 does have a new SiP (S5), they claim it is 2x faster than the S3 processor in the series 3 (seen in Apple's watch comparison page), which if you look back at the S4 chip in the series 4 watch, had the exact same claim, so I guess there aren't any performance improvements. Might just have better battery efficiency.

Waiting for next year's model which should have a new chip with performance improvements + my watch still supports the latest WatchOS 6.

I’ll be upgrading from my Series 1. Almost did it last year but the always on display was the tipping point. I can understand how current S4 owners would not be interested in this one. Looking forward to using this one just as long as I used my series 1!

I think this is a huge upgrade with the AOD and incredible battery advancements. It's a no brainer upgrade for pretty much everyone, no matter what Apple Watch Series you currently own. For those who haven't invested in Apple Watch yet, now is the perfect time.

How much is Apple paying you? Lol

So it’s a no brainer for me to upgrade my AWS4 for a compass and AOD? AWS4 lasts 1.5 days for me and that includes an hour workout and on me from 8am till midnight.

I don't own an AW, but the always on display seems like a HUGE game changer. Probably the most significant upgrade I've seen since the product was introduced. I've always disliked seeing that dead black screen on people's wrists. This finally brings it alive and makes it look more like an actual piece of jewelry and not just a tiny dead computer screen.

Starts at $530 in Canada, over $1000 for the titanium model.

Too much money for what it offers, not buying a version 3 with the square display.

You should probably return and wait for the release and Best Buy would probably drop the price even more. I have the same and I’m definitely not upgrading for a compass and AOD.

For me this is a big update. I'm one of the people who has been longing for AOD since the watch came out. There are so many times that I want to see the display but I can't for various reasons (i.e. working out, having to hold something with my watch hand, etc.) and now that's no longer an issue. Plus the upgraded processor and storage.

Why do people say "Not Much of an Upgrade?" when you're not supposed to upgrade every year? I have their Series 2 model and I plan to ride it out for a few more years before I upgrade. What makes series 4 worth upgrading if you had a series 3? A new design doesn't always warrant an upgrade.

People are definitely underestimating how significant this always-on display is for many users. My belief is Apple has been working on finding a way to do this since the inception of Apple Watch. And now they've finally done it.

Maybe you don't see the value in an AOD, but I genuinely feel the majority of Apple Watch users will. Whether they upgrade this year, or hold off another 12 months, I don't know. But it will drive a lot of sales this year regardless.

This is the first version of the iWatch which isn’t a piece of junk. Always on display should have have been mandatory at launch. Enjoy your humble pie tonight to those silly people who advocated always on display was sc-fi.

Did you see trade in values for S4 aluminum watch? $100 wtf.

As always - barely used "last years model" of basically anything Apple makes is where the real value is for the buyer now.

The financial hit you take for being an early adopter now is huge.

I wouldn't describe previous models as junk, but I agree this is a huge step up for Apple Watch. It's a very significant moment in the journey of the product.

Oh I think AOD is definitely a great feature. I’m always tapping my watch in weird position scenarios, but to purchase a brand new product for full retail just for one feature? Apple will sell a lot but not as much as the AWS4 IMO.

I see no reason to upgrade from a 3 to this. What's the big deal about the always-on display? Yeah it's nice, I guess, but is it really that difficult to move your wrist to make the screen come on? This is the amazing innovation from Apple now? Geesh.

Plus, what about if I don't want info popping up for everyone to see, if my wrist/arm is pointed away from my face but toward people sitting next to me, in a meeting, etc.? So now we have to turn alerts off or will it not show until you.. move your wrist?
you clearly do not own an apple watch otherwise you would know the answer to your question first hand. lol

Is it really... screen comes on anyways when you turn your wrist. This is just a battery killer....

Not according to Apple; probably due to new power management capabilities of the S5 SoC and LTPO display. 32GB storage on S5 vs. 16GB on the S4, plus AOD, and it has the same run time.
