Wow, for years people wanted to develop their own watch faces. And the best thing Apple comes up with is sharing the color of a watch face. Next year: share your watch's time with friends.
Agreed. It's absolutely trash and underwhelming for a major update.

yeah, not impressed.

lets hear about these iOS 14 features aside from being able to change default mail and browser app from Apple's.. that's something thats welcome but hardly care. Especially when non-Safari browsers still use Safari engine afaik and are just their own UI

Agreed.

The short of it is that up until recently, apple watch "apps" were always essentially part of an iPhone app. There always had to be a corresponding app on your iPhone, and the code always was part of an iPhone app project in Xcode.

For the past year or so, you could write stand-alone iPhone apps.

It sounds like, going forward, stand-alone will be the only way to go.

I think @eoblaed 's point about it being hard to parse wasn't so much the uncoloured text as you've explained in more detail here but more along the lines of having 3 verbs following on from each other...

I think it should just read "That was eliminated in watchOS 6, and now in watchOS 7, apps will be not have an extension base."

yep. I was just re-stating it precisely because, as written, some people might not get it.

Yeah, the concept came across, but that part I highlighted was a bit mangled and the kind of thing non-native speakers might stumble heavily given that, as a native English speaker, I sat there staring at it for far too long, heh. :)

I really hope the parental option gives a cellular Apple Watch a "gizmo type functionality" being able to use limited calls to mom/dad and a walkie talkie mode would be great.

A built-in keyboards on watchOS 7 will be great.

Will it come with a stylus as well

The thing is on the "custom watch faces" Apple does not have the time to vet every watch face and using Android as an example, there is some serious copyright infringement going on. Don't see Apple letting developers have free reign on creating complete faces. I wouldn't mind seeing them allowing custom layouts of complications within reason. Three rows of circular complications on the infograph modular would be a mess.

nothing really that would want me to get a new watch, my AW4 is going very strong still ... but then, Apple did surprise us with several features in the AW4, we shall see, and as always YMMV

Architecture - In watchOS 7, apps are no longer based on extensions, which is a holdover from when apps required a phone app to function. That was eliminated in watchOS 6, and now in watchOS 7, apps will be not have an extension base.

I wish this article (or the 9to5 one) explained this a little further or explored / guessed at what might be possible.

Does this mean we might get standalone apps for messaging services like Telegram, Whatsapp, etc. or non-Apple map apps? This would be an awesome step forward in being totally untethered to the phone on a day to day basis.

Current behavior when on LTE and away from the phone (at least for Telegram) is that I can reply to new notifications, but can't originate new messages without a notification to interact with.

You will know when Watch OS7 is released to developers and subsequently the public

Battery surely will need to improve a lot to allow sleep tracking. Would people use this? Would want my wrist to have a break at night

Micro LED, better battery, new crown, sleep tracking and blood oxygen monitoring will surely be the main features. Maybe a smart band with touch fabric?

Wow sharing a plist... such innovation :). Il'd rather be able to design my own face within the same limits the Workouts++ allows customization.

The ‘Infograph Pro Watch Face’ sounds interesting. Apples proprietary watch faces always have some type a ‘unique Identifier’ to them, and this one specifically can be used to compute speed based on a time equivalent. Sounds nerdy, but I like it.😁

I thought that it might include the ability to show seconds. I was foolish to think that - obviously the tech to do that won't be ready for another few years. I'll have to wait for the Infograph Pro +++XTREEM watch face in WatchOS 9.

Maybe I'm crazy but if your child is young enough to need parental controls on a watch are they even old enough to need an apple watch?

I’m hoping it means I can allow my 11 year old to wear my old Series 1 w/o it being attached to my health data, etc.

She doesn’t need her own phone yet and the battery on the old watch is still good.

SMH sneaky kids using the calculator in class... 😤 (no I am NOT jealous I did not get to have an Apple watch when I was a kid... ...ok a little..)
