Sleep tracking isn’t something attractive to me, nor a selling point. Mainly I just don’t have any inclination to want to wear a smart watch in bed. Plus, my sleeping patterns have generally been very consistent, but I do think it would be interesting for somebody maybe that struggles with consistent/quality sleep, that way they can have an idea of hours/interruptions with a sleeping aid When Apple introduces their version of sleep monitoring.

I think this article buried the most exciting thing in the first sentence by stating, "along with the ability to detect blood oxygen saturation..." O2 Saturation by itself is a big deal. Not just for monitoring overall health but also for combining with heart rate data to get a better measure of effort exerted and how quickly a person recovers from a really intense workout. It would take FDA approval but I could see this feature possibly enabling the watch to be used for detecting sleep apnea. I agree the rest of the leaks about sharing watch faces and parental controls are not that exciting but the O2 sensor makes this a definite upgrade year for me (I skipped the S5 so I will be upgrading from an S4).

I thought that was the most important part here as well. But for some reason people prefer to just bash Apple for the watch faces.

It simply shows how Apple made their tech as seamless as possible, to the point that most people won't even notice the big leaps they are making in such a micro device. Unfortunately, that doesn't negate the failing of humanity, of simply overcrowding on a point just to have a negative echochamber.

I will get an apple watch when they finally add a camera. Would be cool to facetime with.

To me, the Digital Crown is peak "form over function". They did it because they could, and I would say it was just to make Apple Watch look more like a normal watch. The only thing I have ever used it for is scrolling, and there's a touchscreen for that. The "press" action to go to the home screen, and ECG function could just be a flush button on the side of the Watch.
I definitely disagree. Using it for only scrolling (which isn’t the only thing it does mind you) and calling it useless is like saying the MacBook doesn’t need two finger swipe scrolling because macOS already has a scroll bar which can be used with the pointer.

Remember, it also:
  • Goes home (press once in an app)
  • Goes to the grid/list app views (press once at home screen)
  • Activates Siri reliably (press and hold)
  • Switches to the most recently used app (double press)
Why can’t they just use the side button you say? Because it functions as:
  • Dock viewer (press once)
  • Activates Apple Pay (double press)
  • Opens power off menu which includes Medical ID and Emergency SOS modes (press and hold)
Combined they:
  • Force Quit apps (in power off menu > press and hold crown)
  • Force Power Down Apple Watch (press and hold side button and crown)

Plus, scrolling on the screen sucks as much as using the pointer to move the scrollbar.

Um, those are all button presses? I'm not sure how that negates the point that the Digital Crown could be replaced with a simple flush button on the side of the Watch.

Also if scrolling on the screen sucks so much, how exactly do you use your iPhone?!
My finger scrolling doesn’t take up the entire screen on the phone.

Two other things it does it lets you peek at the time by scrolling when watch is in theater mode without disturbing anyone as it gradually brightens depending on how much you scroll and turn water mode off by avoiding accidental presses.

Why don't we just create a new Apple Watch design, one that has a camera, that way we can have Face ID. I know that this seems impractical, but as soon as the tech is small enough, we should totally do this.

What’s bad about the crown? I use it constantly and the haptic feedback on it is a nice addition.

since the Haptic crown launched with S4 I’ve found that fine tuned scrolling in apps is lost; very annoying.

for example in Strong! The workout app I can change weights in my exercises by .5lbs increments and always worked without being too focused on the scrolling on my previous S3 watch. On S4 very often I’m jumping a whole pound higher or lower than what I’m trying to accomplish. Very freustrsting.

SMH sneaky kids using the calculator in class... 😤 (no I am NOT jealous I did not get to have an Apple watch when I was a kid... ...ok a little..)

ah man you must be a late 90’s kid. The Casio calculator watch was all the rage back in the mid 80’s

I feel it had the opposite effect. I'm much more accurate with it on; you can turn it off.
