I am interested to see so many orders for stainless steel cases, I started with SS believing that it was stronger and that this was important for water resistance (I also had not factored in the speed of Apple technology cycles). As I am now buying a watch every cycle I have shifted to an Aluminum case, which has also given me a new range of colours. I would be interested in hearing from those who bought SS cases to learn the benefits they see for the additional cost. Thanks
I got an aluminum series 0 watch, as I wasn't sure how much I'd use it. Turns out it was a lot!

The next year I ordered stainless steel. I did like the looks of it over the aluminum. It also uses different material for the watch face.

However, there were 2 disadvantages to me. It was noticeably heavier. Not that it felt like I was sporting a bar bell on my wrist, but it fit just a bit differently than the aluminum one did due to the extra weight. It wasn't as comfortable.

The second thing was that the stainless steel showed many small scratches. They could be easily burnished out, but they were annoying to me. The aluminum cases never have shown scratch one and I get a new one every year.

Will Apple store or chain stores have these in store day of release?

Yes, my apple store will have them ready for sale this Friday. More in stock then ordering online as per the guy who works at the Apple store. I am waiting for Friday and will get what I want, not going to wait months lol

I ordered within a few minutes of the store being up and running with a delivery date estimate of 9/25-9/29. It now says preparing to ship. I ordered a 44mm space gray gps+cellular.

All braided loops are either unavailable or not available until mid-November.
Uh Oh, you're scaring me now. I ordered my 44mm space black titanium with braided charcoal loop and I've had 2 updates on my green line status which now shows preparing to ship. I'll keep posting as status changes. Please let apple send me that "your order is shipped" email.

My order from 5pm Pacific yesterday of an Aluminum Blue 44mm GPS is showing September 29 - October 1 with still no change to "PFS". I noticed that I could pre-order via BB and pick up ON FRIDAY but.. they don't have nearly the choices of bands so I'll just have to wait.

I do Bi-annual upgrades and then hand my old one of to my wife. Hence I need longevity!!!!

I also work in the hydraulic field so I am going to MFG facilities and doing clean sweeps on equipment and machines and bump it around a lot. The sapphire glass has always held up and when the SS get scratches I buff them right out.

The weight doesn't bother me at all I do a lot of mountain biking and running and it's just never bothered me. The best part is it always looks good no matter what your wearing!!!

I have a 44mm series 4 SS that I really like, but it too scratches. I can buff most of them out with toothpaste for a nice smooth shiny finish, but that's kind of a hassle. That's why I decided to try the black space Titanium case. I concur, the sapphire glass is holding up remarkably.

Like you I bought the stainless steel edition each time. But for this release I really liked the blue much more that the SS colors. Plus I’m upgrading more often than I had planned and I hate the significant depreciation of the SS model. So this time I went with the aluminum and am not looking back.

From Montreal, QC, Canada here, and I ordered two watches, the first, within 5 minutes of the site coming back up, the second about 4-5 hours later.

I'm getting the first one smack on the promised earliest delivery date, but I am thinking that the probably more common Space Grey colour also helped me here.

In Las Vegas no Apple stores are open.
Our 1 store in Tucson is not open for "shopping", but you can call for a consulting appointment which can be shopping so to speak. The appointments are also for repair/maintenance, pick up and delivery of orders, etc.

Can someone help. I ordered a SS series 6 with Milanese Loop. Ordered about 3:30 NYC time. Everyone seems to be on Preparing to Ship. I am still on Processing. Projected delivery 9/25-9/29. Should I be concerned ?

Thanks

DO NOT trust Best Buy in providing you a release day delivery for anything. I made the mistake of trusting them last year because they had a midnight green iPhone 11 Pro Max for launch day pickup; that was a big lie. I've heard lots of other horror stories about them.
I actually thought about it so I could spread out the payment for a SS model on my Best Buy card, but I agree - would not trust them to stick to dates based on past experience.

I don't think you'll have any problem with that order. It took about 6 hours for my update from "processing" to "preparing to ship" with the order placed yesterday at about 12:30 PDT.

My store in Massachusetts limits how many can go in to a time, it was bad enough pre-pandemic. I shudder to think what its going to be like now. they actually suggest reserving a shopping time online... and they have Friday blocked out, seem to be limiting to one day in advance. But yeah, now you got me thinking I should just try anyway, sept 25 (delivery date estimate) seems like.. a week away!

If you get deep scratches they don't come out unfortunately, but same with the aluminum. I use a Cape Cod polishing cloth and works fantastic.

What, what? Fedex? I thought Apple used UPS only. I got a fedex notification that 'a' package is on its way for Friday delivery (doesn't tell me what), my order is listed as a sept 25 date but has changed to PFS, and I don't know what else fedex could be shipping, but I am going crazy checking for an email from apple saying shipped, or here for anyone reporting same.
