Series 7 with both the fast charging puck and standard puck from my S3 and it charges perfectly fine with both. Fingers crossed nothing changes…

I have an SS series 7 with latest OS and am using a MagSafe duo with official 30W USB-C brick to charge it. It sometimes stops charging at night and starts to drain kind of fast instead, however it knows it’s still on the charger during this time since the battery graph shows the green background, but the charge is going down. If I hard reset it doesn’t do this again for a week or longer.

Apple replaced my watch because of this a couple months ago but the new watch does the exact same thing.

That's crazy. I'm having constant issues, but your situation (and the fact that Apple has released updates purporting to fix the issue) makes me think it might be software.

I'm thinking about setting up my watch as new and not installing any 3rd-party software for a while to see if that solves it.

Did you restore your watch from a backup or set it up as new?

third-party charger only it seem...
No, definitely not—my S7 is having constant problems with all chargers: the new fast-charging Apple puck it came with, the original Apple puck for my S4, and my Belkin 3-in-1 charger (the only 3rd-party charger I own).

did it show the flash symbol (indicating charging) when you put it on the puck?
Mine frequently doesn't charge (or only barely does so) despite flashing the charge symbol and circle when I place it on the puck, and showing the charging symbol on the Nightstand-mode screen while it's "charging".

Really odd, not a single issue for me for the 6 or so weeks since I had my 7, but I’m only using my old S0 or S3 charger and overnight.

watchOS 8.4 Release Candidate has a bug fix for charging problems and first feedback was that this time, it really fixed issues on 3rd party chargers for them. So let's hope this topic can be closed after 8.4 is released to the public.

I restored from backup. Good idea please let us know if it works !

I see a lot of people still having issues here with the watch, I am glad I got mine replaced and the problem disappeared. which makes me think there where watches in a batch that came defective. I do hope the new update fixes this problem for everyone. If you guys go back in this tread, I also tried resetting and installing the watch as new and tried several methods and the only thing that worked for me was replacing the watch at the time.

I've been having an issue with my Series 7 charging, but not getting too 100% after an entire night on it's charging puck. I use the Apple charging puck and a third party charging stand and at times it will charge to 100% over night and other times it will only charge to 85-90%. I keep the base of it clean and it always makes a connection to charge (green bolt). My wife has a Series 7 also and hers charges to 100% every night. I even tried ruling out my puck/cable being the issue by trying mine on her charger, but got the same result.

I have gone back and fourth with Apple trying to resolve the issue (even had it shipped off to be looked at) and Apple says the battery capacity is good at 100% and that there's nothing that needs to be fixed hardware wise. Previously they told me it was due to having "Optimized Battery Charing" enabled, so I disabled it but still had the issue with it not charging to 100% after an entire night on it's charger. I have since been told that feature would not actually be the cause of my problem.

Apple has run diagnostics on it to determine if it's some other hardware issue or a software issue. After roughly two weeks of tests, they have now told me that it's software related and others have reported a similar issue with their Series 7's and that they are working on a fix for it and to make sure I install the next update that becomes available.

Not sure if this is Apple trying to now appease me so I'll shut up and stop pressuring them for it to be replaced or if it's really a bug that's affecting mine and other select Series 7's. I've had an original Apple Watch and a Series 4 and never had this issue with either of them (still have the Series 4 and used it while my Series 7 was off being looked at by Apple and it charged to 100% every night).

Has anyone else had a similar issue to mine?

Running 8.7 with this issue. Your post makes me think Apple is just trying to push my problem off so they don't have to replace it.

No issues here. Probably you got a bad charger. Only issue I have with my charger, which is the magnetic charging cable is when I put my watch on it, I have a hard time keeping it on its side so it displays the time and date. I used to keep it flat. How is the best way to put it so it stays on its side?

It's not my charger as I stated above that I've tried charging my Series 7 on my wife's charger also with the same result while her Series 7 charges to 100% every time. Additionally, as I also said above, when my Series 7 was away being looked at by Apple, I used my Series 4 (charging it on the same charger I use for my Series 7) and it charged to 100% every night.

I have the same issue with my titanium series 7. I got it replace recently (May 2023) and it has the same issues. It will only charge upright and not on the stand. I'm guessing it is a hardware issue, or software problem that never got updates. When I purchased a SS series 7 when the 7 series came out I had the same issue. I wear an ultra now, but my partner has my 7 series Ti and it is annoying and unpredictable at times. I'll probably due another warranty swap on it until Apple replaces it with a series 8... I'm hoping anyhow.

It’s really strange this is still happening for you. I had a graphite 7 initially that I returned because this issue was too much to deal with given the expense. I’ve now got an SS 7 I picked up many months after the release and all was resolved.

No problem charging & battery life is outstanding with my AW7. Way over a 50% charge left after a 14 hour day which includes leaving my iPhone behind using cell service messaging & consistent hepatic notifications throughout the day. Best $160 I have ever spent.

Just brought a Series 7 and a cheap 3 in 1 charger from Amazon (the brand is called humpun). Put the watch on the charger, nothing, no charging icon, and the battery % does not go up. The watch is running 9.5.1, so latest non-beta software.

Hi all. I just wondering how long it takes to charge series 7 with old usb-a cable and 5W adaptor brick?
Because mine took very long. It takes around 2 hours and 53 minutes from 19% to 100%
