Same problem here with a 7 cellular. I have seen it happen over the past few months 5 times maybe - random so far - today being the latest. I must power cycle the watch to get it to charge. Last update was supposed to fix, but nope. I'll give it a while and if no remedy, I'll go the support / replace route. I've had a 5 and 6 before and never have seen this issue.

today I transferred a bunch of podcasts to iCatcher Watch app and I just transferred to my night watch (series 4) and placed my series 7 onto the normal slow/regular charger and nope no chime or charger light. I restarted the watch and then it started. Transferring files for some reason causes the charger to not start. I have no idea why. Hmmm

UPDATE . I just filed a feedback bug report with Apple.

Seems like my Series 7 GPS is charging a lot faster now on watchOS 8.3 RC

Update: overnight battery drain was horrific the first night on 8.3

How does charging with the watchos 8.3?
I have the some problem. I have bought my first apple watch on Amazon and the second last week for slow charging problem.

Hi everyone, I'm Italian and I apologize for my English.
I'm on the second apple watch series 7 that I get on Amazon (replaced the first). The problem is that on the first one I encountered slow refills and they often stop by themselves.I immediately thought about the software problem but I still proceeded with the replacement so as not to waste time and remove the doubt.
Nothing. It also happens to the second specimen. I presume that I use original 20w apple charger and original cable present in the box. I learned that the problem is widespread and that apple has released 8.1.1 only for cellular phones, partially solving the problem but leaving discovered the gps variants. At this point I do not know what to do. From the reviews on Amazon it seems that no one has detected the problem and from Apple all is silent. What can I do? I wait for the 8.3 and then another return? ?
I don't think I was unlucky, but I think it's a software problem.
Thank you so much for your suggestions and solutions!

Ciao!

Good English by the way ?

With 8.3 my S7 charges much faster now, but overnight last night it drained much more quickly than ever before. I hope that never happens again.

A thousand thanks!
So I could wait for 8.3 and evaluate how the charging behaves. What I still don't understand is why this problem doesn't happen to everyone but only on some apple watches.
In this moment I'm doing another test:
14:14 battery 61%
14:24 battery 62%
Is this a fast charge??? I am really very disappointed. :(

That’s super slow. I’ve had charges like that myself.

I just recharged my S7 this morning after finding it had drained down to 63% overnight. It went from 63% to 98% in 40 minutes, a rate of .925%/minute.

This is much more acceptable for me, especially since I don’t use the fast charger ever, only a Belkin stand charger from the previous generation.

So you say that with 8.3 the problem is solved for the 7 series gps?
In case can you do a recharge test with the original rapid charger?
I don't know which road chose:
- to buy another apple watch to hope that it is last
- to wait next softwere upcate

I actually gave away my rapid charger with my old series 6 to a family member so I don’t have one to test with. Sorry about that.

I would definitely try watchOS 8.3. So far it has fixed my charging issues. I should know better in a couple days though if 8.3 charging has truly solved my slow charging issues.

Okok.
However I have done another test with pd 20w charger but without power strip and I have this result:
in 18 minutes 69% to 91% and this is a good result

Totally the behavior of my first Apple Watch Series 7.

Sometimes it has charged just around about 1-2% in 10 minutes.

I retunred the first Series 7 and got a replacement. Let's see, but overall this quick charge feature is just a dissapointment til now. The second watch charges quicker but not pretty fast. I'm always using the original 20W charger from Apple.

For this I want to wait watchos 8.3 (next monday?) and I hope that this realease fix charging problems. It is not hardware problem but software.

Another data point…

AW7 Cellular purchased 11/3/21 running watchOS 8.1 using the charging puck it came with and a RavPower 65W charging brick: 34% -> 88% = 54% in 31 min or 1.74% / min.

FWIW I’m still running 8.1 because It is still working for me -- so far.

GetRealBro

I’m still seeing good charging performance with 8.3, and overnight battery drain was only 9% last night.

8:25 -------> 24%
8:30 -------> 28%
8:35 -------> 31%
8:40 -------> 34%
In 15 minuti carica del 10% (carica totale in 150 min)

PROVA 2 (senza ciabatta)
8:45 -------> 36%
8:50 -------> 39%

TEST 3 (altro caricabatterie)
8:55 -------> 42%

Risultato:
3% - 5 minuti
36% - 1 ora

8.3 hasn't helped. My S7 still often takes a long time to charge using apple 20w and usb-c cable. So annoying

The best advice I can give you at this point is to ask for a replacement. it worked for me
