Got my order in within minutes of store going live. Confirmation email says delivery 10/15. But order status page now says shipping JANUARY?! I chatted with Apple support who couldn’t explain it.

I was just informed by Apple that you can't order any Apple Watch that is not in stock. If the band isn't in stock you can't place an order for delivery later. If the case isn't in stock you can't place an order.

In other words, if the combo you want isn't "in stock" don't bother trying to order, because you can't.

Chatted with two different reps to this effect.

Yikes...

I know that this is kind of off topic, but this is kind of unprecedented for Apple to just cut off orders once stock is too low (especially on day one launch day of a product that, honestly, probably isn't flying off the shelves due to a minor update).... this STRONGLY suggests that they have lost faith in the supply chain being able to even meet approximate expectations....

Here is the off topic part: I work in, let's just say the logistics business.... I have seen extremely alarming data regarding not just projected North American supply chain issues, but basically the entire global supply chain.... people in the industry are expecting things to get bad. VERY bad.

If even Apple is having to cut off orders at this point on day one due to supply chain issues, that is extremely concerning... as they basically are well know to have their supply chain on lock over all others....

If you guys even THINK you are going to need/want X consumer good over the next 1-3 years, get it NOW because it might be a LONG time until you can....

But there can be a difference between trying on the app vs website so check that.

Apple is now accepting pre-orders for the Apple Watch Series 7 models through its online storefront and the Apple Store app. Pre-orders are available in more than 50 countries.

There were no major design changes to the Apple Watch Series 7 as was rumored, but the new models feature a larger display with slimmer bezels and new 41mm and 45mm case sizes.

Charging is 33 percent faster thanks to efficiency improvements, and Apple is using a more durable crack-resistant front crystal. This is also the first Apple Watch to have an IP6X certification for dust resistance in addition to its WR50 water resistance rating.

The Apple Watch Series 7 is available in aluminum, stainless steel, and titanium, with pricing that starts at $399. Apple is also offering Nike and Hermes models.

Apple Watch Series 7 models did not launch alongside the iPhone 13 models because of production issues that may result in supply constraints. For that reason, customers hoping for an Apple Watch Series 7 on launch day should make sure to order early.

Customers who pre-order one of the new Apple Watch models can expect to start receiving their devices on Friday, October 15, the official launch date for the Series 7.

Is it just TOO MUCH TROUBLE for this glorified bean counter running things to follow some normalcy and consistency among colors and devices so those hundreds of thousands of us who are upgrading many of our devices at the same time have some access to the same color availability? I want a consistent choice for my watch, iPhone, iPad and dare I even hold out some hope for an equivalent MacBook??? I’d want to own everything in Pacific Blue, for example, not utterly random examples of every unrelated blue on planet earth??? This is NOT a bowling bag, but THOUSANDS of dollars invested in serious electronic gear.

Looks like Watch I ordered to receive on 10/15 is now 5 to 6 weeks for new orders.
Wow. Yeah, for sure this was gonna happen. I know a few posters on MRs were trying to say that they weren't going to blow out, but maybe they were just saying that because they wanted less competition👺. Because it was obvious they were gonna sell out fast considering the limited stock.
