Same here. I briefly tried some other bands but those combos did not seem to be available.
It's annoying that the Ti/Steel are more expensive, but for me, the non-scratch crystal is worth it. I'm (relatively) rough with my watch and my S4 SS looks brand new after 3 years. I've previously had aluminum models and the Ion-X crystal looks rough after a few weeks.
Yeah, but you're "forced" to pick a band style when ordering a Ti/SS from Apple, so you'd never have a watch show up without a band. So have the sport band included is just weird. I'd prefer they just lower the price by $50.
I honestly have no idea why Apple let Edition watches slip for years. I mean look at the iPhones? Apple has been packing the Pro models with considerably more features. Yes they are more expensive but then you also get a bit more.
Stainless steel frame, extra camera with bigger sensors, LiDAR, brighter display, ProRAW etc. All while the Apple Watches differ only on the case and front glass.
Those sport bands probably cost Apple around $1 to make so that would reduce their profit margin considerably. They have no incentive to do this. Apple is all about maintaining very high profit margins.
With so many band styles and colors, I wonder if the retail stores are stocking the bands separate from the watch faces. Otherwise there are just too many combination to try and keep in stock.
Right, they may have incentive to lower the price, but they could get even more profit (less packaging costs, band cost) if they just removed it all together.

Apple is now accepting pre-orders for the Apple Watch Series 7 models through its online storefront and the Apple Store app. Pre-orders are available in more than 50 countries.
The selection process was not intuitive…unless you pick their combo of watch color and band. When I tried selecting a sports loop the add button was not active, then after scrolling around that band is not available for pickup or shipping.
Would be nice to only show what is available vs. the whack-a-mole approach to figuring it out.
Another person commented on selling only the watch….would be nice as I will be reusing many of my current bands. Guess that would cut into the $49 watch band that is ‘bundled’ with the watch.
Exactly. I had delivery on the 15th and at final checkout got the 26th. Stupid annoying that it can’t be held long enough for the checkout to be completed.
Not able to order. Tried the app and website. Let me pick all the details but never let me put it in the bag.
Now that I delve deeper it looks like the band I selected is the problem. Allows me to buy with some others. Will wait until I can get it set like I want.

You have to click on the Shop Apple Watch menu option (yep, they messed up) - going to be lots of people going down the wrong path and getting pi**ed that they can't checkout.
(also appears the save option in Watch Studio does nothing?) - yep, great SV&V work on the new store guys.

The thing about this is that you can order the band completely separately for delivery (today). I thought the bands ship separately, too.

It depends on the band. I want the Sport Loop in Abyss. It's not available with a new AW7 or on it's own.
Oh, weird. I went to the store app and just added it to bag in both options and I can buy it for delivery on 10/13, expedite for same day delivery, as well as pick it up today at the Apple Store.
That is really weird. When I go to buy a band on its own it doesn't even give me the option to select that one. There are only 6 of the 14 bands showing.
Even I saw same pricing on Best Buy this morning when they just began their pre-orders which is $399 for both 41mm and 45mm Aluminum Case. I was able to order 45mm for $399 and even apply additional 10% OFF as well as Reward Certificates. It might have been a error on their part. Looks like they have corrected their pricing as of now.
