Headline says "16% larger display", but article says it's 16% more pixels. The display is 1mm larger, but that's not 16%.

The display consists of pixels, so I'm not sure what your point is. The "1mm" larger is referring to the actual body of the watch, not the display. See these drawings of the Series 6 - notice how the watch size (44mm or 40mm) refers to the height of the watch body:

Still say that those edges will be uncomfortable on the wrist.
I’m not a fan of the squared off look for a watch. Watches get caught on sleeves and doorways and car seat belts, all kinds of things, so much prefer my rounded Series 5.

In general, it’s admirable and holistic for Apple to make all of their devices conform to the squared edges look— however— eventually, mark my words— they will go back to rounded edges again. They always do.

It is reported that the body will be 1mm bigger, and that the display borders will be "slimmed down". Combined, this means the display size increase is more than 1mm, reportedly "1.9 inches diagonally, up from 1.78 inches". The 16% maths is based on the resulting pixel area.

Man, without any new health features, I don't know how Apple will be able to market this device and hype it up. At least with the S6, you got the inclusion of the blood oxygen sensor and faster charging.

The rumors point to the redesign as being the noticeable big change from the S6, which doesn't sound like much....Apple will really have to lean in on the redesign and hype it up...because from a health standpoint, it doesn't seem like the S7 will be including any new sensors...
Remember the good ol’ days of: “new number, new design : new S, new features”?

it’s fine. New design is change enough.

Guess I will be keeping my S4 for another year - Design alone plus faces is not sufficient, want to see new health features
New features! Yes!

I will upgrade when the watch can tell me when I’m too stressed and that I need to relax. I get stressed way to easily. (I think that had to do with blood pressure readings?)

On two occasions I was doing something very stressful for work and had my watch throw up “high heart rate” notifications. So there’s that.

Wow, several new faces, thanks Apple, absolutely incredible!! /s

The trickle of watch faces has been the biggest disappointment of the Apple Watch. At least give us a configurable digital face where we can change how the time looks (different fonts...) and where the complications are positioned on screen.

I basically only use my watch for activity tracking and messages while also glancing at the time. As the "most personal device" - Apple's own words - it really lacks any personalization.
Less choices is better. And getting new watch faces is reason enough for me to consider buying new watch! Only because there’s such a dearth of options. It’s like Apple is purposely holding back watch faces! Haha :D

But. I do agree that there should be more quality watch faces to choose from… whether that’s through the App Store, or a customizable interface from Apple.

I should try turning that on then. Thank you

I don’t understand why people don’t get this, but it keeps coming up. Apple isn’t expecting everyone to buy a new watch (or phone) every year, but leaving their design stagnant until person X felt like buying a new one would condemn everyone else to aging models.

Are there really people out there who buy a new car every single year? And do they think everyone else does too?
Well, I’m bored…. So you get a rebuttal.

a $20,000 car is a different buy than a $400 watch.

that being said, it is really nice that watch buyers don’t feel like they HAVE to upgrade every year. It makes the purchase seem special: not having to get major FOMO every year.

I don’t need to try it on to know that if I have my wrist bent back with the edge pushed into my skin it’s not going to be comfortable.
It’s like Apple cares at all about ergonomics! They are the perfect example of ergonomics! When I think comfortable, I think iPhone 12. Hands down.

/s 🤣 I’m with you. I fully expect this rectangular abomination to get rightfully torched. The curves on the watch are just wonderful, and change for change’s sake isn’t always a great idea.

What do you think? Setting a goal for Chillness? 😄

Darn I wish there was a lower heart rate setting.

You'd think that you'd be able to submit a watch face and it'd get approved, just like an app. That's how they'd screen for copyright violations.

End users should have the ability to create/edit their own unique watch face via a design studio just like you can change your own phone wallpaper, and now via approved home screen modifiers, icon sets.

Everything on the watch should be nearly infinitely customizable: watch hands, dials, background, number styles, complications and locations of complications, etc. It's ridics that we are restricted to just the handful of watch faces and limited customization Apple provides. I don't understand why this option has been kept from Watch users at all.

I want to use my own background, with my choice of typeface for numerals, my choice of hands (not some lame floating digital time readout), and place complications around the watch face exactly where I want them. You can kinda play around with design ideas in Clockology, but I have yet to find a consistently reliable way to get it to stick on the Watch.

Cringe and hilarious how some of you guys have normalised it to spend £/$400+ on a watch every 4 years.

Before Apple Watch, would you have spent that much on watches every few years?

Don’t tell me the rubbish of ‘it does more than a watch so it’s worth it’, because you also spend hundreds and thousands upgrading your computers and phones.

All because Apple have normalised it and the sheep shall follow.

I just want them to update so that if I’m using apple CarPlay whilst driving- my watch doesn’t also give me directions!! So annoying.

wow!!! You’ve tried it on already? You know how it feels? Wow
I don’t think his statement justifies the response. He is saying in his opinion this may be a concern (the flat edges). Someone else also mentioned this could be an issue with the watch catching on things given the sharp edge. I think it’s a fair assessment as something to look out for.

Yeah if a slightly bigger screen is all they are offering, I have zero interest in this.
Basically sick of Apple phoning in these updates. Blood pressure and body temp should have been part of this update, and leaving them out feels beyond lazy.

Um… why?

They don’t really think a lot of S7 purchasers will be S6 owners. So they just need to explain why the S7 is better than competitors, and better than S0, S1, S2, S3, S4, and, to some extent, S5.
Spot on comment! 👀
I’m on my classic S3 Stainless Steel and actually considering S7. I just hope that previous bands will fit into the new design.

I would agree, but unless the S6 is discontinued they still have compel people to pay the tax over the likely substantially discounted S6 which is still feature rich. So while your argument make sense to an extent they still have to convince older users that it’s worth not waiting for the S8.
