Man, without any new health features, I don't know how Apple will be able to market this device and hype it up. At least with the S6, you got the inclusion of the blood oxygen sensor and faster charging.

The rumors point to the redesign as being the noticeable big change from the S6, which doesn't sound like much....Apple will really have to lean in on the redesign and hype it up...because from a health standpoint, it doesn't seem like the S7 will be including any new sensors...
Im hoping for a big battery improvement. I've not owned the watch since I sold my series 3, but if someone said you can have the S6, with this (IMO) nicer design, with double the battery life then id be interested in having one again.

I don’t need to try it on to know that if I have my wrist bent back with the edge pushed into my skin it’s not going to be comfortable.

Without trying it on that is based only on renders that are essentially rumours about what it will look like. Except for people that are actually insiders almost certainly under Apple NDAs, or had a leak from such a person that they can 100% verify, everyone else is guessing at this stage.

For what it's worth my guess is that this "squaring off" is mostly going to be on the top (watch face) half of the body where it won't curve in towards the display as it does now. That will allow for the bigger screen area and also very slightly more internal volume in the top half of the watch. For the bottom half (closest to the wrist) the sensors already form a convex curvature that I suspect will remain but I also have a suspicion that the lower half of the body itself, while maybe having less of a curve into the wrist than the current Series 6 does, will still have some level of curvature where the bottom edge of the case still curves in towards the health sensors rather than being a sharp edge.

The main reason for my guess is because it is widely rumoured that existing watch straps will still be compatible. If the sides really are flat all the way down then the only way I can see that being possible is if, instead of the attachment slots being angled slightly down towards the wrist as they are on the series 6 and earlier, the slots are aligned parallel to the top and bottom faces of the watch. That would mean that the straps come out at right angles to the side of the watch rather than at an angle down towards the wrist. That downward angle really helps making a watch look smaller and better fitting on the wrist, especially for bigger watches and/or smaller wrists. I just checked and every single one of my 9 non-Apple watches ranging from cheap Casio digital up to expensive Breitling/Ebel/Nomos(*) watches has the strap attachment points angled down towards the wrist so I would be very surprised if Apple did not maintain that orientation especially if it is making the actual physical case sizes 1mm bigger as some rumours are saying.

(*) I no longer wear any of those watches since I bought my first Apple Watch (a Series 6) on a whim and fell in love with it. I really should think about selling some of my other watches now since they are just gathering dust in a drawer.

Just give us a ****ing Face Store already!

Although, maybe don't call it that, sounds like something grim form a cyber-noire film.

Yeah if a slightly bigger screen is all they are offering, I have zero interest in this.
Basically sick of Apple phoning in these updates. Blood pressure and body temp should have been part of this update, and leaving them out feels beyond lazy.

You should send in your resume. Sounds like they need you to show them how to do it faster?

Doubt it. I doubt you will be getting 2x the battery life…

Didn't Tom Cruise do that in Minority Report?

Apple Robot Spiders coming next!

I would also love it if motion could set a new clockface, like when i am driving I could have it switch to a face with my cheat sheat complication so i can get quick access to my gas card pin that even after years I can't remember. LOL
You can kind of do that now, assuming your car has CarPlay or at least bluetooth. Make a new automation using the Shortcuts app that changes to the Watch face of your choice when your iPhone connects to CarPlay or the bluetooth in your car. Motion sensing would be neat though.

I will not buy a new watch that is 16% larger screen area. That’s really not that much of a difference. And with “exclusive” faces that could likely be done with existing 4-6 and SE watches. Besides, the vast majority of the watch faces are either ugly or useless in function.

Apple, make a watch face UI designer and let others design it. For that matter, let us remove or hide watch faces that we don’t want to see in the gallery when we do change things. Takes too long to navigate all the dross on the watch when changing things. Same with the watch app.
Totally agree. Too many boring watch faces. Wish you could delete them.

I would agree, but unless the S6 is discontinued they still have compel people to pay the tax over the likely substantially discounted S6 which is still feature rich. So while your argument make sense to an extent they still have to convince older users that it’s worth not waiting for the S8.
I don;t think apple really cares that much if you buy an S6 instead of an S7.

Why?
which is still feature rich. So while your argument make sense to an extent they still have to convince older users that it’s worth not waiting for the S8.

This has been true of virtually any non-introductory Apple product for decades. Their main audience of the iPhone 12 isn’t iPhone 11 customers either.

Has anyone done the math? If the 45mm S7 ihas a 16% larger display compared to 44mm S6, what would a similar increase do to the 41mm S7? Would the display be comparable to the side of the current 44mm S6?

I'd love to keep the screen size I have but in a smaller body, like what they did with the iPad Pro when they went to a full-screen design and maintained the 12.9-inch display in a smaller overall device. I guess I'd need to buy all new bands, but it might be worth it to have a smaller, lighter watch on my wrist at all times.

So, 44mm S6 - 1.78 inch display (I saw 1.73 somewhere too?)
45mm S7 - 1.9
40mm S6 - 1.57
41mm S7 - ??

Cringe and hilarious how some of you guys have normalised it to spend £/$400+ on a watch every 4 years.

Before Apple Watch, would you have spent that much on watches every few years?

Don’t tell me the rubbish of ‘it does more than a watch so it’s worth it’, because you also spend hundreds and thousands upgrading your computers and phones.

All because Apple have normalised it and the sheep shall follow.

So, what exactly are you doing reading news stories about Apple Watch anyway, if you're that vehemently opposed to the device. Nothing better to do with your time than troll forums?

Before Apple Watch, some of us were able to afford more than the occasional Casio or Times, so, yes,$100 a year for watches is not very much. Hell, my wife spends that on Swatches.

Here's a mock-up illustration giving an idea of actual screen increase, rather than the 1mm change in the case size.

I just have an S4.. but honestly see no real point to upgrading unless my watch was broken? The extra 1mm isn’t exactly changing the game. Nice watch and if I didn’t have one 100% would get the latest one. But even from S3 cellular onwards, not a ton of stuff in the “need” category. Which is good. The watch is not something I would consider annually or even every second year.
