After 7 years I gave up on the Apple Watch. I now only use it for tracking workouts and went back to mechanical watches. AW never got it's killer feature - notifications are mediocre, apps aren't useful. Health tracking is nice but needs to be more actionable. Activity app is honestly the reason I dropped it - I want to wear a dress watch occasionally without losing streaks. Streaks are the worst part of the AW because of how they demand you wear it 24/7.

The biggest miss is not having dynamic faces/complications. I shouldn't have to tap the crown, scroll down and find the timer I just set with Siri, or always have the timer complication on the face.

They’d have to shrink the bezels even more with a flat display. The current series 7 has the illusion of being bezel-less because of the curved glass making it look like design instead of bezel. With a flat top the bezels would suddenly be clearly visible again. I imagine that might make it look more dated instead of more modern tbh. I wonder how they plan to get around that.

hahaha the same rumour Jon Prosser was peddling for the Apple Watch Series 7.

I'd find it odd for Apple to 180 on the rounded edge screen they introduced last year. It'd be one thing to go from the S3 screen that's flat but with round bezels to this, rather than from round screen on edges.

The Apple Watch Series 8 could feature an all-new design with a flat display, according to the leaker known as "ShrimpApplePro."

In his latest video on the YouTube channel Front Page Tech, Jon Prosser highlighted information from ShrimpApplePro that suggests the Apple Watch Series 8 could feature a flat display in what seems to be a design originally rumored for the Apple Watch Series 7.

On Twitter, ShrimpApplePro cited sources claiming that "there is a flat front glass display" for the Apple Watch. There is said to be a "high chance that this is the front glass for the Apple Watch Series 8," and while there is as yet no clear information about what the overall design could look like or which Apple Watch model the flat display could be destined for, it seems plausible that the information relates to the flat-edged Apple Watch design shared by Prosser last year.

In May last year, Prosser spearheaded a rumor claiming that Apple was working on an Apple Watch design with flat, squared-off edges, which was subsequently supported by alleged CAD renders and other sources. At the time, Prosser suggested that the design could be for the Apple Watch Series 7, but cautioned that it could also be for another future Apple Watch model such as the Series 8.

The Apple Watch Series 7 debuted in September last year featuring an even more rounded design, but ShrimpApplePro's latest information suggests that the rumored flat Apple Watch design may actually have been destined for a new model this year instead. ShrimpApplePro added that the flat display is believed to soon be ready for mass production, likely alongside the front glass for the iPhone 14 models, and that there will be more to share next month.

This year, Apple is rumored to be preparing to launch three new Apple Watch models, including the Apple Watch Series 8, second-generation Apple Watch SE, and a new Apple Watch "Explorer Edition" with enhanced durability. Prosser has suggested that the flat-edged design could be destined for any of these new models.

ShrimpApplePro has a growing reputation in the Apple rumor community, providing the first look at the iPhone 14 Pro's "pill and hole-punch" True Depth camera array, thinner bezels, and exact dimensions. It is worth noting that ShrimpApplePro correctly said that the Apple Watch Series 7 would feature a rounded design like the Apple Watch Series 6, but with thinner display bezels, and is only now corroborating Prosser's initial rumor.

Following the new information, Prosser shared renders by Ian Zelbo showing what a flat-edged design could look like on the Apple Watch Series 8. The Apple Watch Series 8 is rumored to feature body temperature monitoring, improved activity tracking, and more.

This exact thing happened with the iPhone 5 Everyone said it would be the iPhone 6 design but it never materialized until the actual iPhone 6. This past is Apple Watch was already suppose to be this design. But it wasn’t. The analysts were correct just a generation early.

These small, flat glass displays are for the upcoming Apple See AR headset. They are modular, removable, and contain crown and button controls. Add a band to them once removed and they go into Apple Watch mode.

? I have a timer complication on one of my watch faces. Very useful, I might add.

I have to admit, I just haven’t felt the need for an Apple Watch. Very happy with my mechanical, which I will keep for life. For working out HR monitoring I still use a chest strap, which doesn’t bother me. My normally technophobe wife on the other hand, absolutely can’t live without hers. Go figure…

I can‘t believe Apple would change the design a year after introducing the updated rounded screen In the 7, especially in a year where the supply chain is so screwed up. Never say never, but I won’t hold my breath.

Whether true or not, I’m curious how much more resistant to cracks this would make the Watch. I would bet without the exposed “3D” glass, it would be more protected as the metal band would protect the glass more than the current models? Also easier for screen protectors for those who use them.

I’m guessing the current bands wouldn’t flush nicely with the flat body?

It's that time of the year again. The time where the flat edged redesign rumors start popping up.

Like it or not, the S7 was a redesign. Apple could pull a fast one a redesign the S8, but historically they have only made small design language changes to the AW, and on a ~3 year cycle:

S0 -> S3 (2.5 years): 42mm
S4 -> S6 (3 years): 44mm
S7: 45mm
The series 7 is the basic, small design language change you mention in your post. Hardly a full redesign.

I don't think there will be a flat watch this year for many of the other reasons people mention. I really hope they go back to true Silver (instead of starlight) and space gray or black (instead of midnight) colors though. I also believe the 7 sales have been pretty bad. Never seen such early and deep discounts on Apple Watches before.

I just want a thinner apple watch. Imagine if they made it 30% thinner. Same battery life. I'd buy one immediately
