I honestly highly doubt a new apple watch will come this year. Next fall 2016 at best

I agree. I see a new watch announcement this time or even Aug/Sept 2016 for an October rollout in time for the holiday season. Otherwise, expect gen. 2 to be 2 yrs after initial launch. I think this product will see an 18-24 month refresh cycle.

In store availability will no doubt increase sales significantly. The immediacy of being able to wear one out of the store will be harder to resist vs trying the Watch on and then having to order on-line and wait. There's less probability that one will change their mind about the purchase.
My Watch arrived at 2 weeks. My expectations have been exceeded. I frankly did not think I would find it this useful. Today I used the Grocery shopping app and, although it sounds simple, it was great to not have to balance my iPhone while shopping. I also like the turn by turn alerts when using iPhone maps.
The convenience of not having to reach for the phone is worth it alone.
To those who think version 2 is imminent you're deluded. Watch OS 2 will be all you can expect this year and that will be more than enough.

I believe that they release a new watch next Holiday but it will have several much needed advancements. Most of all the watch needs to become more than a second screen for the iPhone. It needs to be able to work independently from the phone. I want to be able to go out for a run without my phone and have GPS capabilities and be able to listen to music stored on the watch. I also want to be able to connect to wifi hotspots and get weather, email, iMessages, listen to streaming music, etc. Today I have a Fitbit Surge, which as a fitness band is superior to the Apple Watch in that it has a built in GPS and can track multiple types of exercise that the Apple watch does not. i.e. Cross training, Yoga, weight lifting, etc.

Typically, the only model I am/would be willing to buy is the hardest to get... SB 42mm with matching link bracelet.

Guess I'll just wait then...was hoping to pick this up in SoCal somewhere during July...doesn't look at all likely if they are still 6 weeks out with the online orders...

I was also able to pick up a 42 mm Milanese Loop in store. Just call ahead and ask if they have them in.

Just to warn you, the call center people have no visibility into store-level inventory. Make sure you're talking to someone in-store when you ask about bands. And make sure you're talking to an apple watch aware person, as a lot of employees have no idea that the other bands are in the back.

You can listen to music from your watch now without the iPhone. Watch OS2 will allow you connect to known Wi-Fi networks independently and take advantage of known hotspots. Fitbit Surge is still really a great fitness device and it's not a true Smartwatch.

I have a feeling that they'll try and stick with the existing hardware longer than with their other products, except maybe the AppleTV and 27" Cinema Display. Instead I expect to see "Limited Edition" styled models like they did with the iPod, such as a "U2 Limited Edition" or a Beats-styled iPhone / Watch / Headphone matching set.

Damn , i just placed an order this morning. Don't want to be stuck waiting for 2 weeks if it starts becoming available today in Apple Stores.

Two months after the "launch" and we will finally see it in stores. I am glad to see that they finally fixed the mess and hope that this is not repeated anytime soon. Let this blemish in Apple's history pass, but not be forgotten so that it will never-again be repeated.
Well you can thank Angela for all of this. I have been following Apple since I was knee high and I've never seen an Apple launch botched so dramatically. When you have people lined up outside of the retail stores on launch/announcement day to find out they can't buy the product in store yet, YOU BLEW IT.

I wish Apple would stop relying on these corporate has-beens and start looking for fresh talent.

Apple, drop the price by $100–$200 and I might consider picking one up. As of now, I refuse to pay top dollar for short-term planned obsolescence.

(Still rocking my iPad 2, mid-2010 iMac and an iPhone 4s…)

The market for an Apple Watch has already ordered theirs. Now we're going to see what the real prospects are for this product category.

Developing markets like China. Same thing as the iPhone. It's a lot of people and filled with cultures that care a lot about visually displaying class via luxury item.

You can only go off past history. The general rule is that Apple updates its flagship products on a yearly basis. Since the watch is new product all we're left to guess but my best guess is that they follow the same pattern with the watch.

...Mac Pro, AppleTV, etc... "flagship" products in their respective areas that have not received yearly updates...

The only one that general rule applies to is iPhone. The Watch is something new.

Just cancel and buy it in store if it becomes available

I plan on doing this as well, I just ordered mine 3 days ago, still hasn't shipped yet obviously.

I don't think the next watch will be available to purchase for at least 365 days, so I'm comfortable buying this one. Given the market you'll probably be able to dump a 1st gen without taking a huge hit on it (look how much iphones still sell for on ebay, even a few generations old....).

Lastly, I think the price point is too high for the average consumer. Anecdotally, there are so many people I've talked to who like the idea of it, but aren't willing to spend $421 after tax on the device. $250 and they'd be sold. I don't know if we'll ever see the price that low, but I could see a $299 model in the near future.

I don't think Apple blew it per se. IMO I think this was their intended startegy all along, to constrain supply and drive demand as long as possible (much like last year's iPhone 6 launch)—prior to the watch hitting retail. Since hype for the Apple Watch waned very quickly, it's now popping up at retail much more quickly than Apple would have liked.

The orginal iPhone in 2007 had similar trouble getting off the ground until Apple eventually lowered the price via AT&T subsidy. Let's see how the watch does on shelf. Wouldn't be surprised at all if we were to see a reduction in price.

I cancelled my order because I refuse to wait 4-6 weeks for a product. Now that they're (supposedly) available in store, it's going to be tempting to swing by my Apple store and pick one up.

My original Pebble has served me just fine over the years and was a fraction of the cost. But I keep coming back to wanting an Apple Watch. If I walk into a store and they have a 42mm SG Sport, I might be in trouble.
