Cool.
Does anyone know when the thin version of the watch will be out? Right now there are only 2 sizes of the fat version.

Right after just about everyone who wants one has purchased one. Then, the new "thinner & lighter" version will arrive with 2X this and 2X that along with some tangible enhancement that seems "must have" plus 2 or 3 cool (or gimmicky depending on your point of view) and less tangible features that we'll spin into "shut up and take my money" froth.

Just to warn you, the call center people have no visibility into store-level inventory. Make sure you're talking to someone in-store when you ask about bands. And make sure you're talking to an apple watch aware person, as a lot of employees have no idea that the other bands are in the back.
Simple way around this, when it says " I am an automated system that can handle complete sentences. How can I help you today?" simply say Manager. They'll send you right to the store (learned this from someone working at the genius bar).

It's a marketing ploy. Apple could give us all the features of the Apple Watch 15 today. The alien technology behind it has been available since 1947. They just dribble it out in yearly updates to maximize profits and annoy their customers so we feel powerless.

Some folks aren't so happy...

I have something that tops your image:

Apple Stores in the United States have begun to receive shipments of the Apple Watch to fulfill in-store reservations through Personal Pickup, according to BGR. The report claims the Apple Watch will be available for in-store pickup starting today or tomorrow, but the exact product mix remains unclear at this point.

A spot check of the Apple Online Store reveals that the Personal Pickup option remains unavailable for the Apple Watch at brick-and-mortar Apple Store locations in New York and elsewhere in the United States. A dedicated Reserve and Pickup page for the Apple Watch that was live in early April also continues to redirect to the main Apple Watch product page on the company's website.

Apple Watch orders have been taken exclusively online since pre-orders began on April 10, although Apple is now catching up on the backlog of shipments and is better positioned to sell the wrist-worn device in stores soon. Apple executive Jeff Williams confirmed earlier this month that it would soon begin selling some Apple Watch models in Apple Stores, but he did not provide a specific date.Apple Watch launches in seven additional countries on June 26: Italy, Mexico, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Switzerland and Taiwan. The wrist-worn device will be sold through the Apple Store, Apple Online Store and select authorized resellers in the countries, including 10 Corso Como in Milan, BOONTHESHOP Cheongdam in Seoul and Malmaison by The Hour Glass in Singapore.

After waiting 36days for the watch and using it for 2 weeks here is my message to apple

That is pure fantasy. There is no way it will only cost $40.

$42 then. By then Apple will have been able to embed the battery in your arm, so the watch will be inductively powered by your body. The battery won't be user-replaceable, but the in-store clinic will be able to swap it out for you.

Well you can thank Angela for all of this. I have been following Apple since I was knee high and I've never seen an Apple launch botched so dramatically. When you have people lined up outside of the retail stores on launch/announcement day to find out they can't buy the product in store yet, YOU BLEW IT.

I wish Apple would stop relying on these corporate has-beens and start looking for fresh talent.

It was quite clear at the AppleWatch keynote/announcement that it wouldn't be available in store. Additionally, an in-house memo was "leaked" to press and widely circulated to reiterate that point even further.

Not sure what news you were reading, but almost no one lined up at Apple Stores to buy a watch. Sure, there will always be a few idiots, there are several billion of us, so statistically speaking, there are actually quite a few of them.

Now some did line up at luxury boutiques. Others lined up to try on watches. However, the broad strokes with which you're painting do nothing for your supposition.

Apple had limited supply and made it quite clear that if one wanted to grab his/her share of said limited supply, he/she needed to get online.

Nothing was blown here. Move along now.

I don't think Apple blew it per se. IMO I think this was their intended startegy all along, to constrain supply and drive demand as long as possible (much like last year's iPhone 6 launch)—prior to the watch hitting retail. Since hype for the Apple Watch waned very quickly, it's now popping up at retail much more quickly than Apple would have liked.

The orginal iPhone in 2007 had similar trouble getting off the ground until Apple eventually lowered the price via AT&T subsidy. Let's see how the watch does on shelf. Wouldn't be surprised at all if we were to see a reduction in price.
This is so stupid. A company like Apple doesn't need to limit supply to increase demand. People can't buy what doesn't exist and are probably more likely to buy something else that is available or lose interest all together and not buy anything at all.

apple people aren't going to go outside the ecosystem. So there is no 'something else to buy', here.

Oh no? You know how many people I've seen with an Apple Watch since it launched? Exactly 0. You know how many people I know that WOULD have bought one if they could walk in and buy one? Quite a few - at the very least, just to try it out. Not only did nobody buy one, but they all forgot about it rather quickly too. Actually, that's a bit of a lie. When it does come up in conversation, it's laughed off as the joke that it is.

If Apple had had ample supply and sold them in stores, more people would have had them, more people would have seen then in the flesh, and if it served any real purpose, people might have been interested in getting one for themselves.

From concept to launch, everything was blown.

There is the Pebble time watch which I know some people went with. And then there are people like me who use Android and Apple. I bought an Android Wear watch to use instead a couple weeks ago. Love it. I may pick up an Apple watch too though once they become available in stores just so I can try it out and compare, but it is really going to have to wow me for the price point. I got a close out deal on the LG G watch R and picked it up for 99$. Water resistant, battery for almost 2 days, looks like a real watch, connects to any wifi network and I still get notifications from my phone, Google Now works amazing. Hard to beat that. As a result I am using my Note 4 almost exclusively and my iPhone 6+ is relegated to an occasional iPad mini role.

I don't think this was a "strategy" to constrain supply. They have 8 different models not including the various band options. Production and inventory management would have been a nightmare for any company with so many variations. Now they have an idea of demand for the models and can manage accordingly.
The initial sales were pretty incredible but, if the sales estimates of 30,000 /day are accurate with on-line exclusive orders, it is sure to go when folks can walk in and purchase one on site.
I was a skeptic but its really exceeded my expectations.
As to the price, folks said that about the iPod and the unsubsidized iPhone as well. People are paying full price for the iPhone 6 and 6+ now albeit on installments.
I am not sure the hype was ever that great given that tech journalists were never "over the moon" in their praise of it.

I agree. I see a new watch announcement this time or even Aug/Sept 2016 for an October rollout in time for the holiday season. Otherwise, expect gen. 2 to be 2 yrs after initial launch. I think this product will see an 18-24 month refresh cycle.

I would eat my watch if it's on a 2 yrs update cycle. That's an eternity in tech and their competitors will be biting at their heels.

Well, there you have it. Your "market research" is remarkable. You haven't seen one. That's all we have to know.
It's funny that when I tried to sign up for an Apple Watch Workshop, they were all booked and I live in relatively small market. I certainly agree they would have sold more if it were available in stores but it's sales with limited availability have been pretty robust.

How can any company get this so wrong?

Unless of course it's 100% totally deliberate.

Are Apple stupid, and get this so wrong?

Are Apple Clever and are Engineering this?

...Mac Pro, AppleTV, etc... "flagship" products in their respective areas that have not received yearly updates...

The only one that general rule applies to is iPhone. The Watch is something new.

Apple TV is more of a hobby then a major product. iPad's are also updated on yearly basis. iPod's used to follow that thrend until they dropped into a second tier category.

I cancelled my order because I refuse to wait 4-6 weeks for a product. Now that they're (supposedly) available in store, it's going to be tempting to swing by my Apple store and pick one up.

My original Pebble has served me just fine over the years and was a fraction of the cost. But I keep coming back to wanting an Apple Watch. If I walk into a store and they have a 42mm SG Sport, I might be in trouble.

This is exactly how I felt. I ordered April 15. June 1 I got an update that said it would deliver June 30. Screw that. I decided to just wait til I could get them in store. Which you still can't. And this is a product that was announced in October. I agree with all the Apple pundits who are now calling ver1 a "soft launch"

What do you care? You don't have anything to connect to it.
Although I am not a fan of the way this was launched, the sales have been pretty impressive. Demand has dwarfed that of the original iPod or iPhone.
Apple is not stupid. They are more successful than Microsoft or Google and that didn't happen by chance or being stupid.
No company would be so clever as to shoot itself in the foot by preventing folks to purchase their product or wasting the impetus of their launch of a hot product.

You can listen to music from your watch now without the iPhone. Watch OS2 will allow you connect to known Wi-Fi networks independently and take advantage of known hotspots. Fitbit Surge is still really a great fitness device and it's not a true Smartwatch.

That's great to know. Thanks for sharing. Please give me a GPS.

So, you are saying Apple totally underestimated the demand for their new product by such a MASSIVE amount that even weeks upon weeks later, people are still waiting.
All their highly paid people got it "this" wrong you are saying?

I have a feeling that they'll try and stick with the existing hardware longer than with their other products, except maybe the AppleTV and 27" Cinema Display. Instead I expect to see "Limited Edition" styled models like they did with the iPod, such as a "U2 Limited Edition" or a Beats-styled iPhone / Watch / Headphone matching set.

They will definitely make some special editions from a color-way perspective. I think that could come this year. It's the easiest way to extend the life of the 1st gen Apple Watch.

We may be 2 hardware release cycles from adding GPS/memory. Battery life has to get better as well as those customers who are spending $1,000 to $10,000 plus on the watch would be pissed off if their watch could not leverage future functionality just after a year of purchase.

Does anyone remember the outrage when Apple dropped the price of the first gen iPhone just a few months after launch? They gave a $100 gift card to customers but I was still pissed. Then again, money is no object when you are buying a $10K+ computer to put on your wrist.
