I purchased a Space Gray Sport when it was on sale at Target for 299. Unfortunately, after a week of very light use the anodizing around the screen and the sharp edges around where the watch bands attach were already showing flakes/wear. I understand wear is normal but considering it had only had very light use I wasn't very happy and ended up returning it. I personally prefer the look of Space Gray over any of the other Apple Watches but I'm not sure that I would purchase it again. Maybe I just got a bad one?
That's certainly not my experience. Mine still looks new 8 months later.

Same here. Still looks new. And I've had some moments of whacking it on door frames, getting it caught in pine trees while doing yard work, etc. Definitely expected scratches several times and have been pleasantly surprised. My 6S plus has not faired nearly as well.

I always said I wasn't going to, but I pulled the trigger today. Yeah, it's a 1st Gen - it has the black sport band which isn't an issue since I have multiple 3rd party steel bands. But I've been wanting the Black SS for a while and the price was too darn good to be true. Got an email from a place called Micro Center outside Philly this morning, showed a Black Stainless Steel 42mm for $202. Odd price, but they tend to have strange prices. I personally havent seen this version that low before. Only had 1 in stock - I still had a balance on my old gift card dropping the $ more, Jumped in my car, drove the 40 mi round trip and grabbed it. It should be finished charging..ready to sync up. I'm pretty darn happy :)

That looks quite sharp!

Honestly, I went from sport to SS, and I LOVE the look, but I had an issue with nerve pain going up my arm with the sport, and I honestly think it's worse with the SS. I think I'm just sensitive to where the watch hits me, and though I don't wear it very tight at all, that extra little bit of weight in the SS seems to be causing me more of a problem.

I'm going through a bunch of chiropractic care right now, so I'm going to see if it incidentally improves this problem, but, if not, I'm likely going back to a silver aluminum. :(

I went from sport to SS and it rocks! I prefer the lightness of the sport and the sapphire display of the SS. If Apple makes a sport model and a sapphire screen. I will buy that instead! Steel scratches way to easy!

316 L is a very soft metal. The advantages are with minor scrapes and scratches, they easily can be removed with a polishing cloth or what have you.

Unlike the aluminum, scratches/scrapes are permanent and cannot be removed or any remedies that I'm aware of.

I do like your idea of combining a sapphire display with the sport model, but ultimately, that would strain the stainless model with one of its two exclusive features.

Personally, I don't believe Apple would do that, due to increasing the price point of the Sport model, where they want to make more affordable and continue to gain ground in an uncertain wearable market.

What happened to the Space Black with black SS Link bracelet? It's gone from the store now? A few weeks ago it was showing 2 day delivery.

Apple removed both stainless and black link combinations from the Apple Store for resale. That's how I purchased mine as a whole when they were released. Now they sell the link bracelets separately.
