Maybe not a total surprise they didn't spot this - after all the watches are on display in the one shop that doesn't have a security alarm.

I am pretty sure that the 'celebrities' did a fair bit of shopping whilst wearing the watch.

This is it. This is the first "-gate."

Or Apple did this on purpose. You may not have noticed the Apple watch on their wrists, but when an alarm goes off you certainly will.

I am pretty sure that the 'celebrities' did a fair bit of shopping whilst wearing the watch.

Seems like the sort of thing that might not have been correlated before the watch hit the masses. Also apparently it is not all alarm types, only some... This could be interesting to watch play out.

Man this would definately be crazy and such a nuisance. I remember going to a store one day to pick up some of those Sonicare brush heads then heading to a mall right after, the brush heads set off every store I went to practically. I finally caught on and ditched the packaging; not sure if i'll be able to ditch the watch.

Maybe a pocket emp shield lol could be used whilst shopping.

I've been in and out of stores all day. Just got home from International Plaza (mall in Tampa). No alarms.

Transcript:
Dear Mr. Cook,

I was perusing the MacRumors forums today, trying to judge the public's reaction to the apple watch. I've ordered the 42mm Stainless Steel Apple Watch with the Milanese Loop and have a June shipping date.

Anyway, several Watch wearers reported certain store alarms being set off by the watch. One man claimed it set off every alarm at his outlet shopping center, and he confirmed it was the watch causing the alarm.

This may be a very serious matter, and if the media catches it, you'll have an AppleGate on your hands (and I'm not talking about Christina)

Thank you for your time,
[my name]

What's embarrassing is the media turning everything into a "gate". It's really stupid.

Get used to it, they've been doing it since 1972! The English Dictionary even says "...most of these formations are short-lived, –gate itself endures, having become a fully-fledged suffix, breaking all ties with the Watergate building"

So it's an accepted, fully fledged suffix of its own. Though keep moaning about it, maybe people will stop using it.

That's funny mine set off the metal detector at the bank today. Thanks apple your going to get me arrested. Luckily I go there every day and they all know me.

I work as a support engineer for the Co-operative here in the UK so drive round going to all the shops and my Watch didn't set off any shop alarms on the way in or out today.

That's because The Co-operative is so backward they have fire alarms installed as security alarms and vice versa. ;)

I have this problem every time I walk in to my nearby Walgreens (not with the Watch yet as I'm still waiting for delivery). I mean, it is practically every time I enter and leave.

I chalked it up to either the iPhone or my Car Key. Part of my thinks its the iPhone picking up on the sensor and sending some communicating information out like it would with Apple Pay/NFC and that setting it off. Just a guess though...

I don't mind the use of "-gate" in and of itself. What I mind is the media turning every single little nit picky stupid thing into a full blown crisis.

Another thing they've been doing since '72 and beyond.

May be the RFID anti theft gate, library gates show false Apple Pay prompt on iPhone. I filed the bug twice, but they keep punting it.

Oh, that's nothing

Just the NSA chip

Don't worry about it. It's for your own good. Trust me :)

Weird. My sport didn't set off any alarms and I just went to Dicks, Lowes, MC Sports and Toys R Us. All have alarms.
