If apple reallly wanted to be sustainable “” why don’t they just sell the watch by itself with out another over priced apple band? Also there is no difference between the original ultra and the new ultra besides the tap to answer which in my humble opinion should be available in all the older watches. I think the idea bin over at the park has run dry or all their employees can’t afford to live nearby as such they spend their energy on commute, paying super high rent and the stress of living in the Bay Area.

The people looking to disparage a product always have a response ready.

If it sells out fast, it is because they only made 5 units.

If it remains available, it is because it is a flop and nobody wants it.
At least one person is a fan of the Mother Nature skit. lolz.

Bandless should be an option, but the problem is that people would then want the price reduced which wouldn't happen.

The band Apple included with each watch costs them very little to manufacture, but we can all see the price of each one when you buy it standalone. Including the band let Apple pad the starting price of the watch a bit and they won't be changing that strategy I am sure.

I'd like to see them add the Ultra to the Apple Watch Studio though. I understand those bands are 45mm and not 49mm but as someone who has used a 45mm band on the Ultra, it is good enough. I'd love to be able to purchase a new Ultra with any 45mm band available such as a braided loop and not just the select few 49mm bands.
I'm more being snide about the environmental comments they made throughout the presentation. I've bought two Apple watches new, and 2 used, and never used the bands. The easiest way to save the environment, if this is Apples true goal and not just one being used as a marketing term, is to never produce the item in the first place.

And there should be a price reduction, or an Apple electronic gift card, for this option.

Not surprised. It’s the most compelling watch now. I absolutely love mine. No reason to upgrade to Ultra 2, but for anyone who didn’t get an Ultra last year, the Ultra 2 is a fantastic upgrade.

Well it's only a weak update for someone who had the Ultra 1. That's not who was targeted and it is likely not the main source of buyers thus far.
id just thinking anyone who would drop $800 on a watch woulda went for it last year. The only thing that will peak my interest with this thing is when they add a micro LED display....which I've been waiting for since the second Apple Watch lol

I am very happy. I ordered 11 hours after launch and am still getting it on Launch Day. Could have been a lot worse!

It would have been a bummer to wait an extra 1.5 to 2 months as that is a significant chunk of the lifespan if you were to upgrade sooner than later.

I tend to keep Apple Watches for 2 full years. This might be the first one that I keep longer though, potentially 3 years of more if I “replace” the battery.

Well I'm someone who bought the Series 8 last year but ordered the Ultra 2 this year so there's one person. I'm guessing I am not the only one!

As a first gen. AWU adopter I’m looking forward to the AWU2. The 3,000 nits is a very welcome addition for outdoor enthusiasts.

Makes sense. Plenty of people wanted the Ultra, but didn't want a first gen product. So they wait for Gen 2 and get a great watch (Though without much benefit over the Gen 1...at least not yet, probably once Apple kills off support for S5-S8 all with the same processor generation...)

Hmmmmm…9/22 delivery date.

Watch Ultra 2 is very tempting. But... I'm holding out until Ultra sports a USB-C port. And comes with a TB4 cable in the box. :)

Yawn, this isn't much of an upgrade over the original ultra. Delays for bands, SMH.
Since I have the last years Ultra, I am happy about this. I was hoping the update wouldn't tempt me in the least and it hasn't.

I am curious about what they will do next year. All the rumors point to big 10 year change to the regular watch and I am hoping they don't do the same with the AWU.

I could be wrong but I don't see them changing the AWU housing after only 2 years.

There are rumors of a new magnetic band attachment mechanism that will create more room internally for a bigger battery. I don't think this would be a good idea for a rugged outdoor watch like the Ultra. Too many scenarios where a magnetic attachment can get pulled off. That is, unless its has a locking feature with a pin that locks it into place but takes up way less room.
