9 articles on the home page exclusively on the watch may create some interest though. I think it'll be a bit like the SS watches but easier to tell when someone has it. What I think will be niche is the number of people who use the additional features. I think this will be mainly a fashion accessory for many.
Maybe not “fashion”, but the Yeti devotees will eat this thing up.

“Here honey, I just bought you a $1000 cooler, and I picked up the new Ultra Watch for you as well! Your fishing trip will be outstanding now at the lake <3 Have fun!”

“Thanks honey. I’ll take the lifted Tundra since there’s a little bit of off-roading at that one spot that isn’t paved. That four wheel drive really comes in handy on those loose pebbles.”

at $750, you need to be sure you actually want/need this. I checked and every single store in my area has them available.
It really isn't that much more expensive than a cellular Apple Watch (about 50% more), plus you get a bigger screen, better battery and a pretty cool band. For the lifestyle I lead, I know it really isn't going to do anything more for me compared to existing sports Apple Watch, but it's arguably better quality, and sports better craftsmanship and durability, and I think that should account for something (even if I am going to replace it 4 years down the road).

Still on the fence regarding this one, but when I do eventually feel like upgrading from my series 5, I know what my next model is going to be. If not this current iteration, then the next. :)

I waited a few days before deciding to order the Apple Watch Ultra. Estimated shipping is in October. Cancelled web order and picking up in store today. Nice surprise for me.
Yes, always wait for launch date. Apple almost always has in store pick up stock in the AM.

Mine was supposed to not ship for a few weeks but ended up being shipped yesterday. I would have just picked one up in person but I guess I’ll have to wait until Monday…

I wasn't going to get one till I saw a review and saw battery life. I ordered one immediately, will be here Monday. I'm very, very excited about it suddenly - plus I thought there needed to be a bigger, more manly watch all along.

Wanted the Trail Loop, but it's not available anywhere where I live. Don't think the Trail Loops were available today. The others are available.
All last night and before they went on sale this morning, their store said “not available for pickup at store” while other models said “check availability on 9/23” so figured they wouldn’t be.

I get why this watch is an attractive upgrade - unsure why people with first gen AirPod Pros would feel they need to upgrade.
The improved ANR is reason enough for me to upgrade. I use them while doing yard work and woodworking and the ANR works wonders for keeping the noise down. If the new ones have ANR that's twice as good, then I'll jump on those as soon as I can find them on sale.

The problem is, if I get new ones, my wife will want new ones, too. So at regular price that's $500.

No offense intended, but you appear to be in a different, perhaps narrower niche demographic than the one to which this is targeted.
No offense taken. Yeah unfortunately I know I am not in the younger active lifestyle demographic this watch targeted. I would take one if they gave it to me just for screen size (am not a small person so i already have the larger AW 7) and especially battery life. I do not also use a cellular AW either do not want another monthly bill on my 5G unlimited for me and my wife ;-). That is why I mentioned my age so folks I am not in the younger group this watch targets more LOL although I wish I still were LOL

While I am not the targeted group ( I am 72 my exercise is walking and fossil collecting outdoors as retired geologist) I would love for size and especially the battery life. But I do not use a cellular AW dont need another cellular bill on my pension budget LOL

72 yrs old. It’s not for your targeted age group. Of course you see it as a niche product and that’s fine but you can’t make a general statement for an entire group
Good call. Yeah should have been more specific but that is why I mentioned my age which you correctly determined this watch was not really targeted for in most cases. Corrected that statement a bit as I was not trying to making a blanket statement for all just folks like me. Yet having said that if the watch were closer in price to my aluminum AW 7 I would be intrigued as I want that battery life. But I am not a cellular AW user either have enough of a bill with my unlimited 5G from AT&T for me and wife on our iphones. I always have phone with me since I am not running or such just walking along for my 40 minutes a day or out collecting fossils as a retired geologist and paleontologist;-) But would also love larger flatter screen.

This product is the first to give me actual concerns about Apple’s in-house industrial design team. Real-world product photos haven’t helped. The absurd “crown protector” and side profile look positively dreadful and tacky.

Apple Watch Ultra orders are beginning to arrive to customers around the world. For customers who forgot to pre-order an Apple Watch Ultra or simply decided to wait, many configurations are now estimated for delivery in 3-4 weeks, but the good news is that same-day or next-day pickup is now available at select Apple Store locations.

A quick spot check of Apple's online store reveals that many Apple Watch Ultra models with the Alpine Loop or Ocean Band are available for in-store pickup today in countries such as the U.S., Canada, and the U.K., but Trail Loop models are much harder to find. In-store availability will likely deplete quickly as the day goes on.

To order a product with Apple Store pickup, add the product to your bag on Apple.com or in the Apple Store app, proceed to checkout, select the "I'll pick it up" option, enter your ZIP or postal code, choose an available Apple Store location, select a pickup date, and select a 15-minute check-in window. Payment is completed online, and a valid government-issued photo ID and the order number may be required upon pickup.

A few Apple Watch Ultra models may also be available for walk-in customers at Apple Store locations with enough inventory, but your mileage may vary. Walk-in customers may be placed into a separate queue with lower priority upon arrival to the store.

The second-generation AirPods Pro are also available for Apple Store pickup starting today.

Not in Minnesota they’re not. Nothing available.

This morning was available for Apple Store pickup in FL for most configurations but it is already sold out at most stores. Ultra will be an absolute hit. I think so much that regular AW will dwindle down and soon majority of sales will be Ultra. It will be like iPhone Pro vs regular iPhone as Apple will further develop Ultra and regular AW will receive some updates but nothing like Ultra. 53mm Ultra next year for the win w/ larger screen and more battery - we have been terrorized enough for the last 7 years with Kids Watch Toy.

I wouldn't have it even if Apple sent me one for free. It's by far one of the ugliest Apple products ever.
While I am not into fashion statements I am indifferent to the design but if they sent me one free I sure would take it with the bigger flatter screen and especially the battery life. But to each their own I always say. Now I do like my iphones to look nice however LOL and love my new 14 ProMax ;-)

Dern. For free though?
I would take one for free its the cost that stops me would love longer battery life and bigger flatter screen (I am not a small guy so a bigger watch would be fine on my wrist). Hey Apple if you are reading here I would be in line for a free one to test for you LOL

I would definitely like a better battery life that gave me two days when traveling to collect fossils, or buying and selling at mineral and fossil shows. Would not have to charge every night to go two plus days. But frankly I could not upgrade AW ultra each year like I am able to do with monthly payments on my iPhone iUP plan. $800 a pop is a bit much for the budget, and of course even if there were a AW ultra iUP plan that would add a major monthly payment on my state pension LOL (I am retired geologist for Illinois Geological Survey) But maybe down the line a couple years I might save for one. And no I do not have Apple Card to use. Still paying off some other credit card debts also which will take a bit of time and I thus did not pass their credit test but thats ok do not need more debt right now need to clear what I have first LOL

You actually had to check a box that said “I solemnly swear I will live up to other people’s expectations of how I use the Ultra up to and including what can be considered extreme activities. You understand you cannot buy this watch simply because you want a larger watch with a better battery. You will no longer wipe down exercise equipment, you will flip random tables, and you will, to the best of your ability, be rad” before you could even order it.

If they'd give me more than $170 for my one-year-old series 7 Ti watch I'd get one.....

I'd prefer to have it in the black Ti but is what it is. Maybe they'll add a darker color later
Yeah, trade in values for recent watches dropped this time around. When I went from Series 5 to Series 6, they gave me $230 for my S5 Stainless. At current trade in values, I'll probably just give mine away to my little nephews. Maybe that's exactly what they wanted?

Honestly I love the fact you’re 72 and still loving this technology. I think it’s awesome and respect that

Glorious. Lol

Yah know if anything, anyone that owns this Watch will be motivated to go be more active outdoors. It just screams “go be outside in nature and have an adventure”.

Bought one at 7am in the app and biked to pick it up at 9:30. Awesome weather, store wasn’t crowded, and I love the build and finish in person much more than I was expecting to. For grins, I put on my “vintage” Apple Saddle Leather band while I get used to it. Makes it look like a dad watch.
