a problem with the new ultra even tho it says it has a slightly bigger screen the text on messages for the contact doesn't show the whole name while on the series 7 it does, both are set to smallest text size but for some reason the ultra cant show the know name so its actually a down size, this watch is going back, the only thing I like is the brighter display which they should of given the series 8. also the bezel and case make the screen look even smaller than series 7, this isn't good, its being returning asap

Something very odd there, especially given the Ultra has a slightly higher resolution and some reviews mentioned more text on screen. I wonder if it’s a bug of some sort.

It’s like the old MacBook Air with huge bezels Around the screen. But I actually kind of like that because the screen will be more protected. My bulbous Series 7 screen which protrudes above the watch always made me kind of nervous in the gym around all of that metal machinery and iron plates. A lot of thought went into the design.

It is odd how text looks slightly larger and smaller on the Series 7. its likely a software update will fix that. The name on the Ultra looks larger but the “Ok” looks smaller?

Enjoy Avatar Later!

The Ultra has more rounded corners.
(But many want a round Apple Watch, which would make this even more worse)
something just doesn't feel right at all, I dont like the screen shape on the ultra

I think because the screen is slightly larger, it gave the name a slightly larger font size. Which caused it to be cut off.
doesn't look like that in person its because the screen is ore rounded its a huge step back from series 7 design, its a shame series 8 is such a poor update, at least most people saved money this years Apple Watch upgrades are terrible the ultra really isn't impressive

Not impressive for you because you are obviously not the target audience for the ultra. For me its almost everything i wanted from an apple watch for trail running.

Yeah, I do agree that round shapes suck. I hope Apple gets away from that.

But I’m mainly using my Ultra for working out and the gym so it’s not an issue for me. I’ll be using my Series 7 for daily use.

Same width in the middle, but it’s actually taller - you can see in the comparison photo - the “Avatar later :)” text bubble is fully displayed on the Ultra.

I think being able to display more vertical content is a good compromise - the corners don’t necessarily need to have more horizontal space esp. for watch faces - taking a quick glance, that’s a narrow band reserved for the status bar on my series 5.

It also looks much more rugged in comparison to the Series 7 on the left - guarded all around from knocks - which should be great for outdoor activities (which is the target audience anyway).

Wow, yeah, looks like the radii of the corners are 'softer' / more rounded and thus there's less information that can be displayed near the corners or along the edges. That sucks!

Ahh this makes sense. Corner radius is different, causing the display at the very top (and bottom) to be more narrow. That's unfortunate.

Wish details like these were caught in the reviews that were published this week. Instead it just becomes so much about unboxing.

Looks like the overall font is still a touch larger, even though both are set to their own respective smallest font? And rounded corners don’t seem to allow quite as much across the very top of the display? Just my first thought looking at pic

unfortunately YouTubers dont say the truth about minor details, they all sound the exact same

close up I really couldn't tell a change in bigger display its so minor you cant even tell, what is noticeable is the names are cut off because the top is narrow, that's a major downgrade, the screen looks smaller because of the bezels and case and now smaller because of the rounded sides, cant wait to go back to the series 7

Yeah, looking closer, I agree about the top, definitely looks like the very top and bottom have less room across due to rounded corners

The Ultra has dramatically more rounded corners than the other Apple Watches, thus the top and bottom lines are going to get squeezed in some.
