Apple Watch Ultra weighs 61.3 grams. That's almost twice as much as the aluminum Series 7 & 8. I don't understand why they are saying it's for runners. That's too heavy. It looks like Apple also discontinued the Nike+ version. They only offer the bands now as a separate purchase.
Garmin Fenix (probably the most popular running watch for ultrarunners) weighs 70-96G depending on model.

For all those wondering, from Apple Store website:

“The Trail Loop, Alpine Loop, and Ocean Band are designed for Apple Watch Ultra and pair best with the 49mm case size. The bands are also compatible with 44mm and 45mm cases.”

So yes old bands should work

Well, it’s a 1009 €.
Something is wrong here. Even with VAT and the current exchange rate the difference in price is shocking. I wonder if the US price announcement was a mistake…

I can see how this could become popular among senior citizens: larger display, a siren, all other emergency features…

The Fenix comes in a few different variations but the 7 Sapphire Solar I have is 50 grams. Not sure if Apple is including the Watch band in its calculation but I’d guess it isn’t.

On Tuesday I was about to pull the trigger on the Garmin Epix 2 AMOLED display that has 416x416 resolution and 5 day battery life with all functions always on display for $1000. So glad I waited, the AW Ultra isn't everything I wanted, but for $200 less and Apple's integration, I was happy with it.

Looks like the trail loop bands are all shipping a month later? The alpine and ocean bands ship September 23. Wonder if I should just cancel the trail and replace it with the alpine until I can get a separate tail band. The bands are interchangeable I presume.
Exactly what I just did, for the same reason.

I'm surprised it's $800. I thought it would be over $1000 with how durable it is and the fact it can be used as a proper scuba diving watch.

I want it. Now. Give it to me now.

Let's be real, no actual scuba diver, nor explorer for that matter, will be relying on this Apple watch. They'd stick to professional and well established gear.

It's just for wannabes or those going on a little walk somewhere. Not serious exploration.

Is it just me or do those bands actually look less reliable than the standard sports strap? Especially the climbing one.

The diving one looks interesting. As a non-diver I'm wondering if it's as crazy as it sounds to trust your life to an Apple Watch app to use as your diving computer. Also interesting that salt water doesn't seem to be any issue.

hahah I love how hard they tried to sell this watch to hikers.

iF YOU EVER HIKED you know how crucial battery life is and 6o hours is literal ****.

2 weeks + on battery GARMIN reigns supreme
Ya but your comparing a multi use watch built within a eco system in mind to a specialized brand of watches that cater to 1 group.

It’s a fairly normal Europe markup for Apple.

The point remains. Apple’s ads focused heavily on hiking and what looks like extended stays outside the grid. The battery life is far from what people are used to expecting from rugged gear. It’s definitely more a convenience device than a survival tool. Nice to have, but it can’t be the only device that performs an essential function.

The weight of each device depends on the material used in manufacturing. For example, the Apple Watch Series 7 weights 32g for the aluminum option, 42.3g for stainless steel, and 37g for titanium.

The Apple Watch Series 8 weight 38.8g for aluminum and 51.5g for stainless steel. Of course, given its larger size, the Apple Watch Ultra weighs more at 61.3g for the titanium-only option.

Ok , that’s me out sadly, the ss 6 weighs a ton already , 61.3 g ! Forget it .
