$800 and it still can't manage 2 days of battery life? No weekend trips without a charger I suppose. Not really a compelling offering here.

This looks really nice and almost makes me want one but they missed a big segment of outdoor users. They did not cater to mountain bikers. They should have integrated an ANT+ sensor into the watch so that it can connect to bike sensors as not all are bluetooth and even then, many will not connect to the Apple Watch.

For instance, motor sensors on ebikes. Specialized eMTBs have Bluetooth for phone connectivity (but in a non standard way that only connects to the Specialized app) and ANT+ connectivity for bike computers. The motor will not connect to a watch (I've tried). If the watch could do ANT+ then mountain bikers could dump cycling computers and use the watch.

Because of this oversight, I will remain in good terms with my wife, by not buying this.

I am super active and battery life on super long bike rides (7+ hours) can be challenging when running strava. Don’t know if this will make me buy though….need to think about this one.

I wish There was a way to push heart rate data to the apps like strava or ridegps. This would let me dump the heart rate monitors.

It’s over 1000 USD in Hungary with taxes. 😂😂😂
No wya Jose. When I take a trip to US or finally manage to move out of this hole, I might be interested in one

The all-new Apple Watch Ultra unveiled today is available to pre-order starting today in the U.S., Canada, Australia, France, Germany, India, Japan, the U.K., and more than 40 other countries and regions around the world, with pricing starting at $799. Apple Watch Ultra will launch in stores and begin arriving to customers on September 23.

Inspired by the "most extreme activities," the Apple Watch Ultra features a durable design with a 49mm titanium case, a larger display with a flat sapphire crystal cover, new bands designed for the outdoors, water resistance up to a depth of 100 meters, a customizable bright orange "Action" button on the left side of the case, and more.

A new Wayfinder watch face designed for the Apple Watch Ultra's larger display includes a compass and space for up to eight complications. There are also new workout views, such as Segments, Splits, and Elevation, that provide important metrics at a glance.

"Inspired by explorers and athletes from around the world, we created an entirely new category of Apple Watch designed for new and extreme environments — it's the most rugged and capable Apple Watch yet," said Apple's operations chief Jeff Williams, who oversees the Apple Watch team. "Apple Watch Ultra is a versatile tool that empowers users to push their boundaries with adventure, endurance, and exploration."

Apple Watch Ultra is advertised as having up to 36 hours of battery life per charge during normal usage, and a new low-power setting with reduced frequency of GPS and heart rate readings that extends battery life to up to 60 hours per charge will be available in a future watchOS 9 software update later this year, according to Apple.

Having a flat crystal was long overdue.

Yes, this is weird.

You can record HR if you start from the watch app but then you lose the capabilities of the phone app. If you start from the phone app then you get no HR. According to both Strava and RideWithGPS (I use both) this is the fault of Apple preventing this rather than the app developers...

Also you can't broadcast your HR via bluetooth to other devices (such as a Garmin Edge). Though that one is not entirely surprising.
