Will the old bands work?
I think so, if you look at the listings of the new Ultra bands, they list compatible with 44mm, 45mm and 49mm Apple Watch sizes.

I ordered the Ultra. I always wanted a titanium apple watch, but couldn't justify the price difference. Here it is $50 more than 45mm steel, but you get a bigger screen, more battery, new design and extra features.

Not into the case or bands. I like the brighter screen and extra button but kinda stops there. Maybe apple will do a better version next year for those that aren’t fitness nutjobs.

Good lord. A siren built in? I’d have to disable that right away.

I wish There was a way to push heart rate data to the apps like strava or ridegps. This would let me dump the heart rate monitors.
Really annoys me Apple Watch doesn't do this. One way is to use Cyclemeter which then syncs activity to Strava etc, but it's not ideal in the slightest. Meanwhile, my wife's Galaxy Watch 4 shows her heart rate in real time in both Strava and MapMyRide on Android.

It's the reason I gave up and went with Garmin, which allows watches to broadcast HR over both ANT+ and Bluetooth, so it's visible on my bike computer AND syncs up with Strava later.

Apple Watch Ultra too large?

Pleeeeeeaaaaaassssssseeeeee.

This is my current dive watch. It’s $1500 and it probably will sit on the sidelines.

Same, I was prepared to say "meh" and move on. I was not expecting a dive computer. At this price, it competes with other dive watches in the segment. I have been eyeing a Shearwater Teric, but it's so chonky I wouldn't wear it day to day. I'm interested to see how chonky the Apple Watch Ultra is compared to the regular watches. It won't matter though because it brings a massive ecosystem and apps to the frankly disjointed and crappy UX dive watch market (and athletic watches in general).
Argh… just saw the local price in euro and the watch is just over $1000… guess this will have to wait.

Great catch @jclardy!

Ultra is 61g vs 45g for a S7 Titanium. That's definitely noticeably, and probably too heavy for me since my primary activity is running and even the extra weight of the SS model was annoying to me.

Pleasantly surprised by the price. I was expecting something like $999.
I never believed that silly $1000 tag leak it was just not realistic for a smart watch with only few years lifespan specially considering they discounted edition, even ceramic

Apple Watch Ultra weighs 61.3 grams. That's almost twice as much as the aluminum Series 7 & 8. I don't understand why they are saying it's for runners. That's too heavy. It looks like Apple also discontinued the Nike+ version. They only offer the bands now as a separate purchase.

Ordered. I'm not thrilled that Oceanic+ requires a subscription to keep access to more than 12 dives. However, I expect this means there's a chance for more than one option of dive app. I would love to see MacDive expand to have a dive app too.

I understand those that aren't feeling the style of the Ultra, but I think it strikes a decent balance of form and function. Wear the watch that fits the situation.

I think it is because of the band you may have selected. Many other ones are still showing 9/23.
Correct. I canceled that order and went with the alpine band instead and ordered the trail band separately. Didn’t want to wait an extra month for the band. I liked both options anyways so I can swap them out as desired!

hahah I love how hard they tried to sell this watch to hikers.

iF YOU EVER HIKED you know how crucial battery life is and 6o hours is literal ****.

2 weeks + on battery GARMIN reigns supreme
Not dissing the Garmin (they're awesome), but I do backpack and I've been using a series 4, no issues. I have a small battery pack, get up in the morning to a charged watch and it lasts all day. My one beef is on a serious climb, every time you slow down or stop for a break, the ridiculous workout algorithm decides I'm done hiking and tries to shut off the workout, which messes with tracking distance, etc. But my S4 also wasn't $1500 CAD so I'm good with it. The Ultra will be a nice upgrade to battery life and functionality.

And I would never trust my life to any piece of technology so battery life isn't actually that crucial, that's what a paper map and a good compass are for. Assume all tech will die when you need it most.
