Well, if the poster likes it, good for him. Me, I do not like what they did, I prefer the original - but to each their own.
I got to ask though, why make this a front page “article”?

Agreed. This is seriously weird judgment from MR. The original thread had a full description, the same photos and four pages of comments. It already existed as a post that all MR readers could participate in if they wanted.

I'm all for recycling, but come on.

the guy suffers from conceptual confusion the watch wasn't designed for the average user. The new watch is designed for extreme sports enthusiasts who need big bold watch that is easy to read and operate while doing the sport of their choice. If you want a watch for looks there are a lot of choices out there buy one.

The person just screwed himself over if he has to return it. Repairs might even be tricky to get if they see those mods, which of course they will. Must be a slow news day, maybe Gurman and his fellow guesser Kuo are sleeping in today and thus not spewing out their typical hogwash...
Maybe not. The mods don't affect the function of the watch. It could be marked down as "wear and tear". Like scratches and buffed spots.

True, but now it can get noticed by other sites and before long I’ll have to see it again being discussed by local morning news anchors.

Re: the orange, there's probably a significant number of people who prefers a toned down look. Just harken back to the red dot on crown uproar.

If it's simply a different button piece that is changed, would it be worth it for Apple to make that a BTO option?

Really? instead I find f****** ugly that brushed titanium.
Anyway ”De gustibus non est disputandum used to say the ancient Romans.

As someone who works extensively with metals, I’ll tell you that he did a terrible job of this. He seriously cheapened the look of the case. Notice the speaker holes for example. See how the edges are rounded over? He destroyed the crisp edges that were machined into them. The same thing is all over his work. The brushed finish looks terrible. It’s not even, or subtle. I would be embarrassed if I had done this. I certainly wouldn’t be showing it to everyone.

there is a way that finishes are done so as not to do exactly what his resulted in doing. It’s a lesson - don’t do this yourself unless you have the proper equipment for it, and the knowledge and experience in how to apply them. If you follow that rule, you won’t end up with the disgusting mess he’s ended up with.

The uproar about the red wasn’t that it looked bad - it didn’t, but that it told people, on watches that didn’t have it, that they didn’t have the top model with cell service.

Honestly it looks worse "deuglified." The regular design looked great

Apple: "International orange" 😂

International orange is used by aerospace and nautical organizations to set equipment apart from surroundings, in case of an emergency or low light conditions they'll be able to see. The color has a purpose and in emergencies will save your life, which is why the Action Button is international orange so you can see it in low visibility. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_orange
