Well, you and I know that the majority of Apple Watch Ultra buyers won’t buy it because of their serious extreme sport activity.

Apple is mainly a fashion company.
It’s just a matter of time till we see a 10 tons of weight guy hobbling down the street with an Apple Watch Ultra.

95% probably don’t do extreme sports.
Which begs the question, why create a product for such a niche market?

Unless they have bigger plans to go after the fitness and weekend warrior market which is much larger.

I mean it doesn't necessarily need to be used for scuba diving or extreme sports. It's ruggedness means it's built to last which would be a selling point for a lot of people afraid of breaking their Apple Watch, like construction workers and other blue collar jobs.

For me the biggest issues with all the Apple Watches is the proportion of the bands. In the effort to be backwards compatible with as many iterations, the proportions have gone way out of whack. The image above for example, you have this HUGE watch with this ridiculously out of proportion width-wise band designed for a different model that was already growing bigger and bigger with each iteration with bands staying the same.

For me the "ugly", is how strange and goofy the band looks in proportion to the watch body. The orange is the least of it.

That is a super nice looking strap -- extra points if he wove the strap fabric himself. I would have put in an orange line myself (if I were an amateur strap weaver) since International Orange is my favorite color I also like local Orange. It must have been the years in Orange County🍸😹

Apple: "International orange" 😂
Apple didn't 'invent' International Orange. It existed long before the AW Ultra.

You know, bare titanium doesn't take kindly to fingerprint oil. I wonder if they took it down to bare titanium.

The orange button isn't what makes it look ugly to me. It's the body, specifically the way the screen lifts up from the body, that bothers me the most. I would like to see it in person though as the features and bigger battery are a big selling point for me.
If you look close, there is a different material between the body and the top of the case around the screen. That is the extra antenna for the new GPS system and its plastic 3/4 of the way around. I wondered about the choice at first as well but turns out is more for function over form.

Apple knows that Generation Z+ likes to pose, and fool others as if they were doing any kind of extreme sport. Just like they fake holiday pictures and post on social platforms, etc.

And what if you do? It’s like some people don’t seem to understand there are people who will buy this just because they like the design and are bored of the Series body. It’s not all about people buying it just because of the extreme environments it’s designed for 🤦🏻‍♂️

I didn't realize until now that there are actual screws on the bottom of the Ultra! That's an interesting detail. I wonder if that makes it more repairable.
iFixit did a tear-down, and it is not as repairable as the standard model. Maybe it will get there eventually, but the frame looks gorgeous internally.

I could see myself doing that too, if it didn't void warrenty. But i also tend to prefer original finishes, so who knows.
Looks good for sure, and nice job!

I like the new Ultra and love the orange. Seeing the iFixit tear down I don’t think you are going to see any custom case color treatments any time soon. As far as the size it’s not that big, bit I can pull off a big watch with a 190mm wrist.
