Again, the button was made international orange on purpose. International Orange exists for a reason to set the button apart and make it easily visible even in conditions where visibility is poor, which while diving in the ocean or in a blizzard, pretty damn useful. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_orange
Who goes diving in a blizzard? I think you’ll need something more than international orange to save you if that’s the case.

That’s one ugly watch. Best review ever on YouTube: it will end up like a GoPro - in a drawer. It’s a niche watch that the majority have no use for. But fanboys will buy it because they think it looks pretty. As most here commented on just buying it for its looks, not for what it was designed for.

And Apple offers accidental damage replacement, so pay some money and they will replace it. Doesn’t matter what it looks like. Now it is unlimited too. So that’s why you can dremel it and replace it.

All you haters - if you had an Ultra on you wrist, trust me you’d love it. It’s functions are awesome. Fell off my bike yesterday and Ultra asked, “did you fall” “are you okay”, I was, but how sweet is that and what if I wasn’t okay?

Red attenuates rapidly as you go down in depth so Int Orange would turn gray below 20 feet. Cobalt or Electric Blue button world be visible for as long as you had ambient light. Personally, I like IO but would have equally loved most any accent color, esp a nice blue one.

Loved reading this thread. Some of you folks really crack me up!!

I hope they release this as a special edition just so the International Orange haters will actually have something to complain about.

Seriously how could you hate this? The bright orange looks so good. (though the entire watch being orange kinda takes away from the purpose of making the key buttons easily marked.)

This is truly the most horrendous modification I’ve ever seen. The finish of the watch and the action button look absolutely mangled. Truly embarrassing that someone spent so much money on this Ultra just to make it look this disgusting.

How is it a bad take to think that Apple is full of themselves for touting "International Orange" for a freaking button on a freaking watch? We get it, it's a real thing. It's used in far more important applications than a [giant] watch button. If you can't find that thing because the color doesn't stick out, then you should reconsider doing these extreme activities.

Apple is just doing their usual, "we've reinvented the button, making it enormous and slathering it with International Orange"

THAT's what people are laughing at.

What accent colour would be better to showcase the new button and symbolize the new and expanded use cases the watch has?

The people laughing at the orange button would just “laugh” at something else if it wasn’t there. The thought process doesn’t expand past “lol Apple.”

That said the button colour isn’t really required for visibility when on the wrist.

the guy suffers from conceptual confusion the watch wasn't designed for the average user. The new watch is designed for extreme sports enthusiasts who need big bold watch that is easy to read and operate while doing the sport of their choice. If you want a watch for looks there are a lot of choices out there buy one.
That's a silly comment. It sounds to me like he didn't suffer at all and in face is quite happy with what he now has.

I'm sorry but the Apple Watch Ultra already looks like an idea from the 90's trying to predict the watch of the future. I'm sure it will be accepted because Apple sells it but it's a poor design and probably the least Apple looking device they have produced since the Performa line.

Why’s it the wrong way up?
I'm an avid gymgoer, and during HIIT and a lot of up down, high impact activity, I found the guard... pressing hard into my wrist. I saw someone else on the forums wearing it upside down and I took a try on it, I love it. using your thumb for the crown and side button is really nice actually.

Bro...the Apple Watch Ultra can be used as a dive computer. International Orange is used out at sea FOR A REASON. Kinda useful to be able to see the button that you can program for Oceanic+ or call for help when you're at sea where things are hard to see (pun intended)

Other dive watches use International Orange

Bro… if you knew anything about light transmission underwater (you know, when you dive), you’d know that orange (even of International fame) is useless. It is actually the second worst color to choose behind red. Look it up. You know physics and stuff.

I bet the cuff links on that guys pressed shirt are just as easy to find with his eyes closed as the AWU “International Orange” button when it looks dull gray during a dive.

Sorry, but it’s a fashion design decision and pure marketing to tout the “International Orange” choice. I can laugh at that if I want.

Apple Marketing's idea of International Orange. International Orange is actually a very red orange, the color of the Golden Gate Bridge, or very close to it (which most people consider more red than orange).

Actually that was never intended to be the colour of that bridge. The red/orange layer of paint was a protective layer that should later have been covered by a more boring colour like grey. However when the red layer was applied, the bridge looked so good that the decision was made to give the final layer the same colour. The same happened with the CNA Center in Chicago: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/333_South_Wabash#/media/File:CNA_Center.jpg

I actually like the mod better. During the keynote, I kept wondering if they'd release a Series 8 model with the Ultra features. I hate the rugged design, but I like the features.

Never thought of that, will give that a go when mine arrives
