Now for an Watch that's impressive. my current watch gets me around 1.5 days depending on how I charge. I'm sold, I just need to save some money or get a cellular one and add it to. my plan.

I agree. I'd want to see the 8 vs the Ultra in person before buying though. I'm just worried it would be too large.

i ordered the 8 and could always trade later.
Well good news is the Ultra doesn't seem to be flying off the shelves. A lot of the bands are still available for pickup on release day, so could always go try it in store.

The only power currency out there is actually really AA batteries. I would (and do) carry a garmin for emergencies. And enough batteries for whatever event. I don’t think I’ve had to ever replace the batteries in it over a week long trip either.

The AW7 doesn’t cut it for hiking and outdoors either. When the display gets wet which it frequently does when it’s pissing it down or you’re covered in sweat it goes haywire and stops your tracking etc. I don’t think adding a big orange button and new features will fix that trouble.

Still it’s fine for casual use.

I hope not. That's not even enough battery to get though a long weekend. Unless you need a rugged watch other apple watches provide better value.
It's double the battery life of a regular watch, along with the nicer case and bigger screen it's not a bad deal. Especially once the low power mode comes along later this year and brings it to 60 hours.

Have to also keep in mind that Apple's battery estimates are based on their use test. My Series 6 (with "18 hours" of battery life) will regularly go for just under 2 days without charging if I'm only using it for notifications.

I was considering this watch but ~30% higher price than series 8 watch is not worth minor battery life bump. I wouldn't use "adventurer/athlete" features anyway so it's a no for me. For the price of Ultra watch I can get series 8 and new AirPods Pro.

It's also double the price of the series 8, and more than triple the price of the SE in my country. Unless you reaaaallly need a rugged watch were I live. You're much better off with one of those two and topping up the battery while you're in the shower.

If you're a baller with tons of cash then doesn't matter you should just by top of the line everything. Unfortunately most people aren't ballin'

Normally I buy SS and that costs me $849. This is $799 plus AppleCare. Need to try it on as my wrists are not that big.

Wasn’t joking when I said I need to lift more to pull this off.

Don’t you worry, it comes with a Sahara’s special plug as well as a Everest one.

60 hours is still pretty weaksauce. Especially for the purpose of this outdoor adventuring device.
allows for a 3-day backpacking trip, assuming you turn it off at night (Apple should be putting their Watches into an ultra low-power mode when taken off your wrist, but for some reason they don't do this yet). Can always bring a very small, lightweight solar panel (I have one I use for backpacking) to charge more. It's a trade off. Can't have your cake and eat it too. This watch obviously has a lot of power hungry features over a simpler watch like a Garmin.

This is not meant for a person doing the 7 Summits Challenge, but it's perfect for the weekender who takes fitness seriously. Show me it isn't.

(and the haters have arrived on schedule to put down everything Apple does).

The one thing I actually liked is the red text at night (without having to change colors manually)
This was my favourite bit too. It almost convinced me to buy it. Doing a Lapland Aurora trip this year and it would be great.

The Ultra casing would actually be able to fit up to four AAA batteries, in theory. One AAA battery should have roughly the same battery capacity as the Ultra battery, in terms of Wh.

60 hrs is insane? For a watch? In optimized mode? Come on now.
Yes, its an insane amount of battery. This is a device that can be a phone, a texting device, a fall monitor that asks if it should call for help, a map, a music device, many health functions, many exercise recording abilities, able to display pictures from my phone, control the camera of an iPhone to remotely take a picture or video, so you can then view that picture or video on the watch that you can't see because you can't safely get close enough and at the right angle to see what is happening (I've used this on my job, setting up the phones camera in a machine where I can't get and being able to take a picture or a movie so I can see what is going on behind a guard that can't be removed without tripping a safety circuit). Its also a simple timer, which I use for feeding my dog who has EPI so I need to spread medicine on her food for 15 minutes before I can let her eat. I can tell my phone to make a sound when I don't know where I placed it but I know its near, and I can find friends that I am sharing location with so I can see where they are in relation to where I am. What device do you know of that is 45 mm tall by 39 mm wide by 13 mm thick (a little over 1/2 inch) device that I can have multiple time faces for including pictures that I have of family/friends and dogs? And remember the 13 mm thickness (on my series 4) not only includes the thickness of the battery but also the screen and the glass face of the watch. By itself the battery isn't that thick.

If you know how to make a battery approximately that small with the ability for heavy use for a time significantly longer than 60 hours, what are you waiting for? The person who figures that one out will be the first multi-trillionaire.

Fair enough. But still poor battery life however you frame it. I'd feel safer doing extreme activities with a Garmin I think.

Since I don't do extreme adventuring I'd just buy an apple watch 8 or SE for the better value. I don't mind topping up my battery in the mornings.

For that stuff you only need a regular apple watch and can top up the battery in the mornings. You get lost in extreme settings and that apple watch and phone run out of battery and you don't have the ability to charge it. You better bring a good map.

If your just a yuppy and want to flash off apple watch ultra fine you get 3 days use on optimized settings that don't exist yet.
