Apple watch vs Huawei

Round is fine. From the Apple keynote, and my own LG Watch R:

Moreover, according to Apple, the whole point of a smartwatch is short glances, and being fashionable :)

Turned off, the Apple Watch looks like a 1980s computer on a wrist to me.

Android Wear allows leaving displays on (the actual effect depends a lot on the watchface developer). If the Huawei is anything like the LG R, it'll be gorgeous all the time.

You are comparing a 45mm device to a 42mm device.

Sure, when the size is bigger for round, you can display text, but the edges will be cut off.
If same diameter, result will be a lot worse on the circular.
How will the Moto 360 display of text look on 38mm?

Huaweis are definitely good looking, but I don't know how anyone could say the other android watches are beautiful.

Round makes sense on a mechanical watch because the hands move in circle. It doesn't make sense on a smartwatch. It is not good for reading text. There is too much wasted space on screen. The LG watch R is much bigger than apple watch.

The only reason android guys are making the round watches is because their rectangular watches were hideous. So they just gave up and try to mimic the mechanical watches look. It is really pathetic

We're talking a tenth of an inch. The bigger difference is that Apple has huge bezels around their display.

Oh phooey :) As I just showed, it looks fine. If you have that much text, it'll be cut off on any shape, and you have to scroll anyway.

I totally agree if you mean ones like the original LG G square one. Woof!

However, I think the LG Watch R is good looking. And so is its newer brother, the LG Urbane:

Millimeters are not insignificant when talking about watches.
Yes I know what 3 millimeter is in inches.

Yes sir, but it's kind of like arguing that the Apple Watch isn't thick, because it's like traditional watch thickness.

Well, the same argument can be used to say for the diameter as well, because traditional watches are also pretty big that way these days, too :)

Moreover, it's like having someone with a 38mm Apple Watch claim that the 42mm Apple Watch is too big by 4mm. Because it is, actually, to some people!

Everything is relative.

Traditional watches usually do not use 45mm with thin bezels for a good reason.

Larger watch cases like Panerais or Breitlings have thicker bezels because large dial with thin bezels make a very odd look on human wrists.

I would say that none of these smart watches are very thick.
The reason people say they look chunky is probably due to the way the cases do not taper toward the lugs/strap.

The Huawei watches look good in the renders. Stunning, even. But the photos show a different reality. And the round screens truncating text messages is unappealing to me.

One problem with all of the competing smart watches I've seen so far is that it appears their designers forgot women exist at all. Most are huge and very masculine with no hope of being passed off as even unisex. Apple design comes closest to being a truly unisex design. Depending on the color of the case and strap combinations and face choices the look can be decidedly masculine or feminine or remain neutral. Also the Apple design is about as neutral to left handed vs. right handed use as I've seen so far.

Exactly. The large "face" (lcd) of the round smartwatches make them wear large, and, even though the Huawei isn't technically thick, it has a slab side with the strap attaching near the bottom of the case, so it sits up and looks tall. Large dive watches use large bezels to break things up. These round smart watches need to be under 40mm to look ok, but then the screen is too small to use. Thus, Apple's rectangle screen choice.

Forget Huawei, forget Apple watch or any other smartwatch available today...

Classic in the making...

Yeah, if the Kairos ever gets a decently translucent screen, it'll be really neat.

Yall are crazy. That watch is ugly as sin especially those leather bands. Yuck.

I think that posts that only say "I love it" or "I hate it" waste everyone's time. We could have thousands of opinions going both ways. You are saved because you brought up something specific (the band) :)

Since most of these smartwatches can use ANY 22mm band on the planet, what they come with doesn't really matter that much.

This is something I would expect from Apple, but all we've got from Apple watch is magnificently engineered, polished and very expensive square health band instead :(

Health band? Most of the apps designed for the Watch so far have nothing to do with health. Apple often gets knocked for form over function but with the Watch I think it's the competition that's obsessed with it. Their number one goal was making sure their smart watch looked exactly like a traditional watch. At least Apple's watch will stand out. Why would someone by an LG Urbane over Huawei's watch? Or vice versa?
