I don't think so because the device received FDA approvals, so it had to be tested and shown to be accurate.

FDA approval just means the Apple Watch has been tested and found not to cause heart attacks

Maybe they can't have it work reliably for people with dry skin, thick finger or hairy arm? Or the EEG mechanism simply breaks under excess static electric shock? Considering it has been delayed, I think there is something that is making it not ready for release and they are taking compromises on reliability for the time being.

The only reason I traded in my 3 was because of the new ECG feature. Apple is not keeping its promise if it cannot deliver. They should take back every watch if they are not able to do what they showed in the demo. Also, why are you negotiating on their behalf. The battery life on the 4 is really bad. My 3 would give me 2 1/2 days with 10-20% left. Series 4 gives a day less.
You should get yours checked out. My series 4 lasts well over two days.

I am not getting the kind of battery life that you have mentioned. My watch drains even if I am not wearing it. Never used to happen on my 3. It would probably take 3% off for the entire night if I didn’t wear it. Now on 4 it takes 20% overnight.

1. Watch face - infograph with calendar, weather, time from another zone, wife on speed dial, workout, timer, activity and battery life.

2. I play soccer for 90 mins twice a week. 30 minute workout maybe 2 other days.

3. Pillow app for sleep. I stopped using the auto sleep feature since I thought maybe that is affecting battery life but no difference.

4. Sometimes my watch dies at 10%.

Maybe I need to take it to the store. I get 1 1/2 days of battery life with 20% remaining.
If I go to bed wearing the watch at 100%, when I get up it will be around 95% - 92% (using less than 10% all night).

Maybe try unpairing it and setting it up as new. If you turn on "Health" in iCloud sync you will keep all of your Health, Activity, and Achievements from the watch. The only thing you would need to do is add any third party apps.

It could be that it works better for some skin-types than for others. The reason for the delay seems to be because Apple only received FDA clearance the day before the keynote where Series 4 was announced.

The refund should apply to all purchasers from the release of Apple Watch 4. Many bought for that feature....it was not a "Maybe" but a promised feature.

This announcement from Apple indicates to me that its not going to work as expected. Am I wrong in drawing that conclusion?

If AirPower is released and turns out to be a dud, should I be eligible to return my iPhone 8?

That's not the same thing. The air power was an accessory for the phone. Not a feature of the phone...

The iPhone 8 was able to accomplish all its promised feature such as wireless charging via 3rd party.

AirPower isn’t a feature of iPhone 8. ECG is a demoed feature of the watch and a prime reason for most people to upgrade or buy.

I upgraded for the larger screen, watch faces with more complications, louder speaker, and improved performance. I'm looking forward to ECG, but if that was a huge concern I would have just bought a stand-alone ECG reader.

No, you're not wrong. It's a big red flag. It feels like Apple is delivering an unfinished product just to make their promised year-end delivery date.

Why do that? To avoid the outcry from not delivering anything, perhaps?

Interesting - could be due to the delay in getting this feature to customers - maybe they are rushing it to market to meet a deadline?

Not really, because "AirPower" is just a fancy name for "wireless charging" and has worked from day 1

(Unless, of course, there's a specific feature of AirPower that Apple promised for the iPhone 8 which hasn't or won't be delivered. You might have a case there.)

The 45 days should begin after 5.1.2 is released. I was not able to see if it worked during all this time.

I'm going to disagree on that one.

Never buy vaporware -- if ECG is a make-or-break deciding point, you shouldn't have bought the watch until the feature was available.

Even so, people for whom ECG is a prime reason to buy shouldn't have bought until it was released. Stuff happens with promised features.

I also don't think companies should promise stuff that's not yet ready for market, either. Maybe announce the intent to release the feature, but keep some leeway in the event of the unexpected.

That’s incorrect. It HAS NOT received FDA “approval”.

Next time you bring up a point, please share more info. It has been widely reported that the Apple Watch was approved by FDA.

"The watch has two electrocardiogram, or EKG, apps that are approved by the Food and Drug Administration and supported by the American Heart Association."

https://www.nbcnews.com/health/health-news/new-apple-watch-has-heart-monitor-fda-approves-n908976

Apple said during the event it received "clearance" from the FDA. So, I looked it up... Apparently there is a difference between approvals and clearance. I am sure many others are under the impression that the Apple Watch had FDA approvals as the language is not as clear, so it's nice to know more about this... Verge explains it well.

https://www.theverge.com/2018/9/13/...es-4-ekg-fda-approved-vs-cleared-meaning-safe

Since Apple Watch is Class II device, it doesn't receive "approvals" as FDA does not approve any Class I or II devices. It issues a clearance which does not require as stringent of a test. There are additional nuances to the process involving FDA's review of the Apple Watch. It's an interesting read and I would recommend it.

So, it's not an "approved" device (and could never one) but it has received "clearance" from the FDA. Next time, please add some context to your comments. I don't mind being corrected.

With all the recent chatter about the Apple Watch, something tells me it's going to drop today around 1PM Eastern. Anyone want to place some bets?

Man if it wasn’t already past one I would’ve taken this bet! No software company (big or small!) does a releas on a Friday. That’s just asking for trouble.

Apple online support would not allow me to return mine based on "ECG feature is not available". They kept saying that the hardware is in the watch, just not available via software.

YMMV

One thing I've learned - don't diagnose yourself (or us tools that diagnose yourself). Lay people see medical info thry don't understand and they tend to diagnose themselves with the worst things possible.

See your doctor regularly, and let them do this sort of thing.
