Shorter cable, whatever. But they aren't including a power supply with series 1? That's just nickel and diming at this point.

That would be a pain with some cases. I hope the iPhone 8 introduces true wireless and contactless charging like that Apple patent showed.
I guess it would be a pain. I'm sure they'll think of something. Or probably more precisely, they've already thought of something and it's ready to go.

Quick question : from the pic of the charger, it seems like the cable is stuck to the charging pad. Couldn't they have simply put a lightning port instead, allowing to use either the 1m cable, or a longer one (I suppose the iphone has a >1m cable), and on the wall unit part, the usual full usb port ?

The 2m cable's longer than I've ever known what to do with, but I'm sure some people really appreciated it.

Ah, well.
For some reason, that cable always wanted to flip the watch charger upside down.

Cumbersome? please tell me this is sarcasm...

The way the watch sits on the charger, it's actually a pain in the ass sometimes to have all of this extra cable that wants to flop around and flip the charger over.

The charging dock/stand thing that Apple sells does have a lightning port and includes a very long lightning cable.

I really appreciated the 2m one on my AW, but I'd rather have a 2m lightning cable so I'm not stuck against the wall using my phone while it's charging.

Thank goodness. That cable was ridiculously long.

I purchased the .3M cable for traveling since the watch and charging station are usually pretty close together.. dont need a long cable.

.3 meter? Where do I buy this?

Phill: "Let's cut the watch cable size in half, that saves up 20 cents"

Tim: *Mindblown*

Haha, but if you do the math, 20 cents times 10 million sales (for example) is 2 million dollars. I wish I could make such a small change and reap such benefits from it...

Could have used a cord 1/2 the length with the original Apple Watch. It just sits behind the bedside stand. Even when I travel I've never needed more than a couple feet.

Apple isn't Apple unless they try to nickle and dime their customers.

is it a surprise? take courage to do this
On the other hand, the AW S2 edition comes with the stand.

Most Android phones don't even come with earbuds anymore. Many Android phones also skipped the AC adapter, only included a USB cable.
Is it a surprise? Nope. Apple is not special Everybody does it.

I wonder if the charging method used for the Apple Watch will be used for the all new iPhone in 2017.

I'd say you're on to something:

Wired, "Here’s What You Need to Know About Ceramic, The Fancy Material in Apple’s Fanciest Watch"

"...the back of each Watch uses zirconia ceramic where the magnetic charger attaches. Ceramics are non-conductive, and don’t interfere with wireless charging."

and

"The result is a material that’s pretty much un-scratchable, and, under most circumstances, unbreakable."

If Apple can get costs down, a Ceramic iPhone next year would be crack proof, shatter proof, bend-proof and support conductive charging.

I like your thinking.

When I unboxed it, I thought it was a needlessly long cable. I was glad to have it, though, when I started charging it on my nightstand. The nearest outlet is about 4.5 feet from where the watch sits.

The long charging cable included on the first Apple Watch was generous. I personally did not need a cable that long, nor am I complaining. The 1M cable will serve fine.

Or maybe everything isn't about saving pennies, and they simply found that most watch users don't care about the extra cable length. I was kind of surprised when I got my original Apple Watch to find that it came with a 2m cable, since the iPhones all have 1m cables.
