Yeap, along with all the other devices that don't come with USB chargers now, saves on manufacturing them and all the chemicals involved in that.
By that logic, they shouldn't be making/selling a USB charger at all then, but they do.

Skimping on cable. Halve all the costs instantly! Or maybe not, some being chopped into the iPhone 7 adaptor.
When the Apple Watch came out there was a lot of moaning how long the cable was (ridiculous, but a fact) now we get whinging that Apple cuts the cost.

2M cables are great for allowing you to put the Watch on a Nightstand and have plugged in. 1M cables though while EU compliant and a nightmare.
Did you enjoy your drink before you used the keyboard?

2 meters does seem quite long, 1.5 meters is more standard I would have thought. So to recount, at 2 meters there's whinging, at 1 meter, there's whinging, but at a hypothetical 1.5 meters, all there is is just silence.

I thought the same thing. That is crazy no power adapter.
for something that needs to be charged every day!
i can understand why a kindle only comes with a usb cable, its battery lasts 1 month, but the watch!?

knowing this, i find the news being a bit biased, it should rather state something like: "apple watch gen2 finally ships with power adapter, loses 1m usb cord" (i'm a bad journalist).

you are indeed a bad journalist. "finally ships with power adapter" is completely wrong; the original apple watch shipped with them. it is only the unreleased series 1 that won't come with one.

I was a bit surprised when I first got my watch and it didn't come with an adapter, but no biggie since I have 645776456 of them around the house. The iPods, including the Touch, do not come with adapters either. Still a bit surprising though, considering they sprung for the longer cable.

yours didn't? which model?

i bought two sports and a SS across two different countries and they all did.

wait wait, so the gen1 watch didn't come with a power adapter? :O
how.. how..? i don't even know where to start with this one.

start by reading it again and realising it's the new series 1 that won't come with a power adapter. previous models did, as will the new series 2.

My bad, the first watch did indeed include one. I must have been thinking about something else I bought that just had a cable. Maybe I was just so mesmerized by the fact they actually include a cable of significant length I overlooked the adapter.

It's obvious that you don't own an Apple Watch. If you did you would be asking to trade the cable for a shorter one. While an iPhone might benefit from a 2 m cable an Apple Watch doesn't for the simple reason it is wholly useless when not on your wrist. You can't use an Apple Watch and keep it charging, it is a ridiculous scenario.

What?? I own an apple watch since day one (stayed up for pre-order) and I can tell you that I MUCH rather a longer cable than short.

geez, relax man, no need to attack.
i was wrong, ok, no big deal.
i don't have an apple watch, i just read what the news says, and it's not entirely clear, i supposed that this 'series 1' was exactely identical to the previous gen. what changed?

And with a lot less distortion.

my reply's long, so if tl;dr = 2m rules for me

You guys are funny. Maybe I am "doing my bedroom wrong" as someone said but the 2m cable that came with my Gen1 38mm SS was perfect.

At home it has to snake from a multiway adapter round the bed's leg behind a nightside cabinet and up onto a small square of marble sitting atop said cabinet, which is where I keep the watch and cable. (Yea, things look nice in my house, am I doing it wrong???)

And when vacationing / work travelling, again, 2m seemed a good length to never have to worry about putting the watch in the ~wrong place~ on the stand. You should be able to see it from your bed, to me anyway. A short cable risks that it may have to go on the wrong side/face the wrong way on a bedside table.

I think the 1m cable is a little mean; granted, not when you think about the new upgraded-for-less Series 1, but definitely not adequate for me when I plan to go to Series 2.

So if I sell my 1st gen (likely) it's gonna go with the 1m cable and I'm keeping my travel-compatible big 2m cable! I like it! I don't think normal folk will know the difference ;)

P.S. May well go to Ceramic. Was hyped for the special Edition box we saw knocking about last time... Sad that too is gone. Is the Magnetic Dock more stylish than the Edition Box? And as portable? Maybe people who had £8K watches travelled a lot more. Make me a ceramic box please Jony! :p
