The new $329 iPad is actually rumored to stick with the A14, which is an upgrade from the previous generation’s A13.
But it really doesn’t matter because pretty much anything after the A12/S4 is still plenty fast.
I swear, I haven’t seen a single complaint about the iPhone or Apple Watch performance within the past four years, until now, when apparently the A15 with 5GPU cores and 6GB of RAM might as well be thrown in the dumpster for being so slow, and the Apple Watches CPU might as well be from the 90s with how archaic it is

That's not the point. These are brand new flagship products. If they feature the same internals, then they should at least be sold at a lower price. So far the only product worth buying from the event is the iPhone 14 Pro which is what I bought. I was thinking about an Ultra, but now I'm not so sure.

Obviously moving the CPU up to a more advanced process would result in either performance and/or energy savings. But they are probably negligible for folks who have been tricked into leaving the screen always on.

Having a CPU that ages the battery faster is just more planned obsolescence, similar to how:
  • Live Photos was enabled by default, just to waste more memory
  • Turning off Live Photos is temporary by default, just to waste more memory
  • There's no way to throw away the "live" part of a Live Photo, just to waste more memory
  • Cropping a photo to "square" doesn't really take a smaller picture, just to waste more memory
  • Cropping a video no longer throws away the rest of video, just to waste more memory
A couple of these are incorrect...

"Turning off Live Photos is temporary by default, just to waste more memory"
  • The Live Photo setting is preserved by default. I've turned my Live Photo off and never had it turn back on automatically. Also, just confirmed by checking another phone with a fresh install. Preserving the Live Photo option was on by default in Camera Settings.
"There's no way to throw away the "live" part of a Live Photo, just to waste more memory"
  • There is a way. Duplicate the photo and pick the 'Duplicate as Still Photo' option, then delete the original.

What chip does the Apple Watch Ultra use? Anyway, keeping my Series 7, unless I can get an excellent deal on an Open Box Apple Watch Ultra from Best Buy (they typically have some amazing open box specials a few months after launch). For example, I got my AirPods Max back in October 2021 for $385 in Open Box Excellent condition.

I don't see the point in yearly upgrades for a watch (even though Apple would definitely like for you to) -- especially given the meager upgrades that Apple has doled out in the past few years. But at least the Ultra offers you some substantial battery life gains.

A modified S8 chip - it has BT 5.3 and the dual band GPS over the other two.

The Ultra is too much for me, but if they add dual-GPS to the Series 9, I'll consider it a worthy upgrade from my S4.
They won't. We will be conditioned to expect the real Apple watch to be the Ultra at it's personal computer-esque starting price of $800. That way the standard is a 'bargain' at just $400.

My main question is, does this year's apples watch support T-Mobile's LTE/5G band 71. Cause that's a big hit for T-Mobile users. IDK why apple has yet to have this band, been waiting on it since S4.

Doesn't appear to.

If they feature the same internals, then they should at least be sold at a lower price.
Why?
Who says that has to happen?
Has someone told you that the iPhone 14 and Series 8 are significantly cheaper to produce than the iPhone 13 and series 7? Because I guarantee you that they’re wrong.
Also, they don’t feature the same internals. That’s just false.
The series 7 does not have a temperature sensor, the series 8 does. That’s an additional cost.
The series 7 does not feature the crash detection sensors, the series 8 does. That’s an additional cost.
If you spent $799 on the iPhone 13, you got a phone with 4GB of RAM and a 4 core GPU.
If you spent $799 on the iPhone 14, you get 6GB of RAM and a 5 core GPU.
Those are different internals, just because they’re from the same generation does not make them different internals. There’s more ram, there’s more GPU, and it’s the same cost. You’re getting more, for the same cost.
And actually, if you want the same internals for a lower cost, you can get that, Apple sells the iPhone 13 and 13 mini at a $100 discount now. No one is stopping you.
But if you want more ram, a better GPU, a better wideangle camera, a better main sensor, satellite connectivity, crash detection, and a dramatically improved front camera with auto focus, it’s $799, the same price as the old one.
That’s a lot of improvements for the same price in my opinion.
The price could have gone up. But it didn’t, it stayed the same.
Obviously, talking US only, I know prices have been going up all around the world outside of the US.

I only upgraded from S3 to S8 because if a device doesn’t receive OS updates anymore then it’s dead to me.

But how will they handle the S6-8 in future updates? If they all technically have the same CPU then shouldn’t they all fall off at the same time?

We probably won't see any more significant changes to the Apple Watch. It may get more health-related sensors, and enhancements to Bluetooth, etc. if it shifts to a 3nm process. But it appears to have reached the limit of what's possible on such a small device. It's a bit like where the iPod was in 2008, except that the "next big thing" that replaces it hasn't yet been released.

Calm down, breathe.... Deep breaths. The iPhone 14 Pro wins. End of story.

You have before your eyes the consequences of teams working from home. All innovations slowed down bigly at Apple's, hence the execs pushing for returning to a normal office workplace.
thats a reach, plenty of company made WFH work without sacrificing workflow efficiency.

I called this as well. They would rebrand this. They need to step up their game, not just the chip but features as well. Apple Watch X with same design ques of Ultra and new chip. Good. Saves me money.

I have S6 wanted to upgrade this year until I saw nothing was there temp sensor only for women. Crash detention but my 14 pro max does that.

Guess the S9 will be the year to upgrade

No competition. Why improve?. “Why bring better performance, the users know no better!”. The end of the fall.

This is what I fear is the plan. They did it with the iPhone and we are now seeing it on the Watch. Features that would have been in the regular Watch had the Ultra not existed are going to be purposefully held back for the upsell.

Not everybody needs an extreme deep sea diving sports watch as their daily driver, but it seems we are headed that way.

Crash detection was enough for me over S7 to upgrade from S4. My wife is on s6 and is also going to s8 for crash detection - we won’t be upgrading phones to 14’s so will be nice to have that feature on the watches.

I keep holding off of Apple Watch over the lacklustre battery life. Hope that they can significantly improve it next year.

Exactly my situation. But now I am actually pondering a foldable phone. If that is no good, then return to Apple later. The Apple ecosystem is not very advanced any more, just will miss the unreliable airdrop. But surely Android has something equivalent. Oh, my S6 will not work on Android?, ok, maybe also will explore a traditional shape smart watch. I really wanted to upgrade but Apple does not want my money :)
