Good one MR! Was thisclose to getting an AW7 with the larger screen from my AW5. This clinches my wait until next year.

The only reason to change my S6 would be the battery. Otherwise it is really shameful for Apple to push this year devices as “updates” and not even lower the price for “old tech”. Shame, shame, shame Tim.

My main question is, does this year's apples watch support T-Mobile's LTE/5G band 71. Cause that's a big hit for T-Mobile users. IDK why apple has yet to have this band, been waiting on it since S4.
It'd be nice to have a 5G on an Apple Watch but it's kinda of overkill for such a small device. Plus, it uses more battery, right?

EDIT: Found this link - UTMS is slow - 3G, while LTE is 4G.

I have a S6 and was excited for the S8. After the keynote, I bought an Apple refurb SS S7. Returned it yesterday. Felt like the same watch I already have and made me realize my S6 still does everything I want.

Main improvements for each generation:

Series 3 to Series 4: Bigger screen, ECG, storage doubled to 16GB, cellular options
Series 4 to Series 5: AOD, storage doubled to 32GB
Series 5 to Series 6: Blood oxygen
Series 6 to Series 7: Bigger screen, fast charging
Series 7 to Series 8: Body temp, crash detection

Did I get it right?

You have before your eyes the consequences of teams working from home. All innovations slowed down bigly at Apple's, hence the execs pushing for returning to a normal office workplace.
This is not true nor provable. It’s more likely R&D and factory site closures across China is the cause. We’re seeing this across many industries with production bases in China. Example… Chips for the new car market. It’s not the work from home causing the delays. It’s lockdowns across China. That will not be changing in the near future.

Yikes. The last few years have not provided me with any desire to upgrade my Watch. I'm almost in love with, and really want the Watch Ultra, but cant move myself to buy it in a color-way I don't like. Hopefully next year they will expand that to include a black/space grey/space black or whatever they call it. I feel like the Ultra is a way to get people prepared for a small visual redesign and upgrade to the non-Ultra lines. So maybe, just maybe, the Watch 9 will have upgraded chips, small redesign and battery. 🤔
Ultra will prolly always stay silver. Putting a color on it makes it show scratches easier

We probably won't see any more significant changes to the Apple Watch. It may get more health-related sensors, and enhancements to Bluetooth, etc. if it shifts to a 3nm process. But it appears to have reached the limit of what's possible on such a small device. It's a bit like where the iPod was in 2008, except that the "next big thing" that replaces it hasn't yet been released.
They should be able to increase the display size. Apple’s loss if they don’t.

Happy with my route of S0 -> S2 -> S4 ->S7.

And happy to stay on the S7 for another year.
I went S0 -> S4 -> S7, but that new Ultra is tempting, but a bit hard on the budget at $799. I will buy the Ultra 2 next year unless I see a crazy good deal before then. I find I use the Apple Watch for a lot more with the bigger screen on the 7. I'm sure the Ultra would be even better. I love a big watch.

I grabbed an Ultra at launch but have been thinking it over whether it's worth it, especially since I got a SS AW7 last year coming after an AW 4. Now reading this, it pushes me over the edge and I've decided to cancel my Ultra order and just wait until a later iteration.

I think an additional flushed button on the left side would be useful for the normal line-up.

Looks like this with speaker and mic:

Hanging on to my Series 4 for another year. Still just as fast as the day I bought it even with watchOS 9 beta
I canceled my S8 preorder, preordered a little too fast. The S4 is still really fast, I think even a bit faster with the new OS (or is it that just me imagining it?).
But S8 is still not big enough of an upgrade to warrant a purchase, hopefully something interesting happens next year with its designs/specs, and curious to see what changes in the Ultra too.

A discounted SE1 is gonna be a pretty good deal, right? Provided you don't use AOD and ECG. Personally, I feel like blood oxygen, fast charging, body temp and crash detection are just "nice to have" features.

Don’t they give you two weeks to send it back?

yep but since I only paid $279 I can just hold onto it as Im not sure Apple would even update the internals for a Series 9 when there is a Series X coming.. I guess they could skip 9 like they did with the iPhone though..
