What source of data (model) is Apple using? I am long time user of Windy that seems to be on top of the actual weather.

They’ve been testing this a year or two ago in the Netherlands as well, but didn’t go through with the actual release. Bizarre how few countries are actually supported. Much like cycling directions.

I have an almost absolutely reliable forecast in my old iPhone in iOS15. In iOS16, well, it’s the less accurate prediction I’ve seen in years.
The worst thing is that happens in different countries, not just the US…

The weather App in iOS 17 has been amazing. You guys will be amazed! Apple has put in a lot of work behind the scenes.
The big problem downunder is that Apple refuse to use the official weather from the Bureau which tends to much more accurate than weather.com which they use here. They 'say' they use the Govt Buraeau of Meteorology. But seeing as I am using their actual app, it’s doubtful. Hopefully they'll update it with ios17

Looks like the built in app in now using bom as source.
Not at the moment.

The only reliable source of weather information in Australia is from the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM). They have their own app.
Lol, where do you think Apple gets its Australian Weather data from?

I believe that’s only for warnings, the temperature and forecast data is still coming from The Weather Channel, which is just inaccurate crap.
ah that’s a bummer. Wish their website was clear about source breakdown. I used the forerunner darksky when in Ireland and it was really accurate.. so hoped this would roleout the same in Aus. Will see how up to minute information compares with carrot and rainparrot.

I think it has become, a lot less accurate in some countries, in the UK the accuracy has been very poor over the past 12 months 😏 I've been forced to get the Met Office app, to get anywhere near reliable forecasts, especially for rain & pollen. No amount of bells & whistles will overcome the poor accuracy 😏

As others have said Apple Weather seems to forecast rain every day. I am still looking for something that is even near as good as Dark Sky was.

I used to use the Apple Weather app. I now rely on Hello Weather, which has a very nice GUI, has several source options, and has been fairly accurate for me.
The free version uses Apple Weather as its source. I downloaded it, and will compare over the next few days.

It's honestly ridiculous the number of countries this is limited to. You'd think Apple is some tiny company that cannot roll this out to at least the Western world. I cannot believe it's not even available in any of the big EU countries like Germany and France.

I pay Windy $20 per year primarily because they provide you choice re: source of forecast. Most importantly they have this comparison function which is my goto. Although our current weather is easy to predict, the ensemble comparison is very useful when forecasting gets tougher. (Apologies for attachment size... wanted to show the ensemble off.)

The Weather App is a disaster here in the West of Ireland (no ... it does not rain ALL the time!). Dark Sky was so accurate, and the UI useful and practical. Apple Weather is inaccurate, the rain prediction is pathetic, and completely useless. FYI, I go for a 1 hour walk every day, I could rely totally on the accuracy of Dark Sky, but not Apple Weather. I wish Apple's greed could be moderated.

If only the actual weather forecasting was accurate...
Exactly, this weekend the weather app has been so off basically making it useless. Why does apple make so many apps that don’t work well? It’s not like they don’t have the money for it.

Back in the day Dark Sky was spot-on accurate and it felt like I had real-time radar and updated forecasts. Now with Apple weather it's like single cloud in the sky miles away? 30% CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORMS TODAY.... five clouds in the sky? 88% CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORMS FOR THE NEXT WEEK...

Seriously, for Southwest Missouri the Apple Weather app this entire year has always said it's either completely sunny or full on hide in the basement because the tornado is coming for you personally thunderstorms.

*THEY* do NOT want you to have accurate weather. Accurate weather forecasts and reports are reserved to *THEM*
