Ugh...

"They'll be lucky..." What a dumb quote. How there can be so many people who have no idea of what's actually happening AND ignoring the fact that Apple said only 'early 2015' who push an opinion out like this is amazing.
They will ship it when they get it right. That is NOT a problem when your company already has 190 billion of revenue in a year and what, 4 billion a quarter profit?

I look forward to seeing it when it's done and done right. In the meantime Samsung can ship 45 new models of stuff that doesn't work well and won't last. Now that's a business!

Every generation is subpar when compared to the generation that follows it.
I don't personally find this true. The iPad 2 was a great upgrade from the iPad 1, but the first compelling upgrade from the iPad 2 was the iPad Air. The iPad 3 and 4 were simply not overall superior to the 2, not in a way that a 2 buyer would've felt like he should have waited (iPad 2 longevity shows this to be true, too).

The iPod Shuffles had some back-and-forths where Apple couldn't decide if they wanted physical buttons or not. The Nanos had a similar identity crisis with overall size and some other features.

Even iPhones are debated due to screen size increases and users who actually like smaller screens.

Can we get a bendable watch?

----------

Every generation is subpar when compared to the generation that follows it. If you're going to wait for 2, might as well wait for 3. The Apple Watch 2 is subpar compared to it. ;):p

Did the original iPhone bend?

Businessinsider is a notoriously anti Apple site funded indirectly by Samsung and Google.

They spread this idea that Apple is scrambling and failing to release their watch in a timely fashion. And their feeble attempts to hold back the tsunami of Apple success will backfire.

Now no one will buy android watches knowing they have to wait until February 14 for something truly great.

All BI did was to remind people to wait rather than buying a chunky android geek watch today or over the holidays.

Apples brand name is so strong, timing of its release is no big deal, they easily sell everything they make. In fact the longer it takes the better, it gives Apple plenty of time to sort out initial bugs.

I'd like to know why they would unveil something that would be lucky to ship within 5 months... have a special event or something..

To get out ahead of leaks. They need to get FCC approval for this. Remember the original iPhone was announced more than 5 months in advance.

Samsung's next gambit will be to release a video of someone running over apples watch with an SUV so they can claim inferior build quality.

Oh, I really wanted to get the gold and red leather one for my wife for Valentine's Day...

...NOT :p

She'd probably prefer the rose gold with modern buckle. I'm sure Apple will try to get these out before Valentine's day if at all possible, since women are a clear target market for this.

I'm pretty sure by that time the Apple Watch will bend time and space.

This I agree totally. Hated using the heavier and thicker iPad3 that got hot real quick. I found myself using the lower resolution iPad2 more often.

I'm just going to hope for March. Looking forward to this thing-- I think it's going to be huge (in scope, not size :) ).

I don't get this product at all. Apple are making out they have invented something new? What's the next Apple product, Apple toilet paper? I think I would be as good as wiping my ass with my cash if I bought this shiny junk.

No offense intended but I just don't get what the drama around this product is all about.

Does anyone else think it is funny that Apple took a motor that vibrates just like any other electronic watch, and named it a special thing, the Taptic? Marketing at its finest. ;-)

Apple initially planned to have the watch ready to ship in time for the 2014 holiday season, but had problems finishing software development in time.
https://www.macrumors.com/2014/09/24/apple-thanksgiving-holiday/
Apple CEO Tim Cook sent a company-wide memo out to all employees this morning, thanking them for their hard work during the month of September, which saw the release of the iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iOS 8 and the announcement of the Apple Watch.
Update: Everyone gets Thanksgiving week off except you Apple Watch programmers. You have more work to do!

Didn't they do the same thing with the original iPhone?

I think they're extra worried about part leaks for a new product so they seem to announce it way ahead of time before it enters production. That way when the parts DO leak we have already seen it all :p

Yeah, it was my understanding that they did this with the iPhone because they needed FCC approval, and they kind of wanted to unveil it themselves lol. I don't see why the apple watch would need that though.. It would be kind of ridiculous for some government agency to get involved with the making of a watch... Not that I would be surprised lol.

Yeah, sounds about right. The F'nCC or something else is always sticking it's nose where it doesn't belong... As to the leaks though, I was really hoping that with the talks of automated assembly lines, they would try to accomplish a fully automated assembly so they could be made sight unseen. It would be nice for them to try that out with a lower volume product.. Oh well

See iPhone 1 release reactions, vs the current smartphone landscape.

Same with iPad.

That said, I can see how this product is different, as it is on a smaller scale of significance. Still, with Apple, it's all about how they do things than what they do. Many will find this product quite useful. Others? Not so much (myself included; design's too "girly" for me).

Some people still dismiss tablets because "laptops are better". I feel that this is somewhat short-sighted. If the iPod Nano was useful to some, then this product is the next step; a Nano on steroids. Hyper-badass steroids.

In any case, Apple's video of it shows exactly what the use case is for it and its potential.

When all's said and done though, If the vid doesn't appeal to you, then you're not really a target for it.
