Does anyone else think it is funny that Apple took a motor that vibrates just like any other electronic watch, and named it a special thing, the Taptic? Marketing at its finest. ;-)

Agreed. Apple is a marketing MONSTER.

People will buy ANYTHING they put out (well, almost anything) because Apple knows how to make people WANT it.

That said, it's not all marketing, the product quality and attention to detail is certainly there, even if all the "specs" aren't.

Only nerds are obsessed with specs...
Btw I'm not yet sure if I'm going to buy one, but surely I'm intrigued

Has everyone forgotten that the new Mac Pro wasn't released for over 6 months after it was announced? Why is this so terribly surprising?

Wasn't iTunes Radio meant to come to the UK in early 2014, and we are still waiting...
So the watch might be out in time for Christmas next year, but hopefully it starts off properly without any major problems....

I'm wondering if they should have waited a while before unveiling it. This reminds me of the new iMac design, and the Mac Pro. People just got mad waiting. But I guess they always do!

What I'd like to know is why do Apple announce products if they aren't ready for shipment?

They should wait until stock is ready and in stores etc. And just prior to that they could have had an Apple Watch event a week prior to it going on sale, similar to iPhone. I think that by the time the :apple: Watch is available some people may have lost interest in it or rather the hype around it would have worn off.
Or if they could have made it available for the Christmas holidays then people would be snapping them up in time for Christmas. Most people are broke after the holidays thus sales will most likely be lower.

I was really surprised to read that the demo watches were just screen shots. I mean if Watch OS was working on the demo model used at the launch event then why not on the demo watches shown to the public?

Well anyway, perhaps if the watch isnt availble by Valentines day then maybe the Easter bunny will deliver it at Easter? :p

Apple really stretched "late 2013" on that one. I didn't need or want one, but I'd have been a bit offended as a buyer.
I do hope (for their own sake) they don't pull a similar stunt on the Watch.
Steve Jobs was able to will, swear and yell his engineers into making the iPhone from prototype to product in about 9 months, from what I can remember.
Tim Cook is a totally different person though.
We'll see how this pans out.

With todays deep supply-chain, it's almost impossible to keep anything a total secret. It's just not realistic.
All the samples were probably milled in Jony's lab by himself and a hand-selected crew of trusted "officers".
Off-hours ;-)
With probably almost a quarter million people involved in building iPhones at Foxconn, I'm surprised were weren't more leaks.

As for people being broke after Christmas - well, maybe some people should learn to save and spend responsibly.

Every generation is subpar when compared to the generation that follows it. If you're going to wait for 2, might as well wait for 3. The Apple Watch 2 is subpar compared to it. ;):p

Some generational gaps are big though. The iPad 1-->2 was huge and the iPad 2 can still run the latest OS (whereas the iPad 1 has been cut off for a few iterations). If based on history, waiting for the 2nd edition is wise with Apple.

I'd prefer to wait 6 months and have apps to take advantage of it than only have to wait a week to get the watch but wait 6 months of decent apps.

I get what he's saying. Just saying though, every new version is better than the last so you shouldn't base your decision on that or you'll never buy. :D

Please Apple.. take your time. You can't afford another issue with a rushed product after 'Bend it like Beckham' and the iOS 8 buggy update.

You have to get this right, the first time!. I am not saying this, but I am sure the Wall Street analysts will says this soon.

I don't personally find this true. The iPad 2 was a great upgrade from the iPad 1, but the first compelling upgrade from the iPad 2 was the iPad Air. The iPad 3 and 4 were simply not overall superior to the 2, not in a way that a 2 buyer would've felt like he should have waited (iPad 2 longevity shows this to be true, too).

The iPod Shuffles had some back-and-forths where Apple couldn't decide if they wanted physical buttons or not. The Nanos had a similar identity crisis with overall size and some other features.

Even iPhones are debated due to screen size increases and users who actually like smaller screens.

Well, my eyes BLEED when i look at the iPad 2 screen. So there. iPad was great, then iPad 3 changed the game with retina. And THEN came the iPad Air. The longevity doesn't show anything. It was the first dual core iPad, and just like the 4S it still works. It's choppy and clunky, but the dual core saves it. Nothing more.
