Meh...gonna wait for the Watch2.

Apple's first gen devices are always subpar i.e. iPod1...iPhone...iPad1.

I had all of those and they were anything but subpar. And if they were, they wouldn't have captivated the public's imagination and revolutionized their respective product categories.

Now the first Newton MessagePad on the other hand...

The iPad 3 and 4 were simply not overall superior to the 2, not in a way that a 2 buyer would've felt like he should have waited (iPad 2 longevity shows this to be true, too).

I couldn't disagree more, the retina screen alone makes upgrading from iPad 2 asap for me. The most significant upgrade the iPad has seen. Shedding some lbs for the air was nowhere near as significant an improvement as going retina.

Every generation is subpar when compared to the generation that follows it. If you're going to wait for 2, might as well wait for 3. The Apple Watch 2 is subpar compared to it. ;):p

Wow exactly this! It bothers me so much when people think this way. "I think i will wait for the iphone 7S, that's going to be the best one." .....

Except no one is saying that. If you read what they're saying, then you'll see that most would rather wait for a version 2 of a NEW product. And historically that tends to be a good move.

Taptic

Well. During the Keynote they said the phone won't actually buzz/vibrate like a traditional notification. They said it would be more subtle, like a light tapping on your wrist so that only you would know the notification came and others around you wouldn't.

While probably similar technology-wise, the execution seems slightly different and to be honest I hope it works as stated. I have a pebble that buzzes every time i get a notification and everyone around me can hear it.

Agreed. Apple is a marketing MONSTER.

People will buy ANYTHING they put out (well, almost anything) because Apple knows how to make people WANT it.

That said, it's not all marketing, the product quality and attention to detail is certainly there, even if all the "specs" aren't.

I waited 2 years to see the unveiling of the iWatch. I just went to Walmart and spent $16 on a Casio watch. I'm happy with it and I saved $300! Oh, and I don't have to charge it every night!

Well, that's fine. Better take the time and get it right than send it early with many issues.

I'm really curious to see how Pebble's sales has changed since the Apple Watch announcement.

My big concern is there is no Watch SDK nor API or simulator out yet. I'm guessing we will see that come the holidays and the watch will be out later than expected.

One of office pools here is when the Apple Watch ships. My contribution is April 1st. Apple has a tradition of vanguard press announcements on April Fool's day.

And you can't run apps on it nor get laid from flashing it.

I'd love if they would announce the release date a little in advance... I'm probably gonna be in the us sometimes first half of '15, but haven't set a date yet, and would love to be able to go to a store and try it if it's out...

Well that's kind of my point though. The screen was undeniably an improvement, but the iPad 3 wasn't really any better performing than the 2, and it was undeniably larger/heavier. You felt the pros were worth the cons to make it overall better. I did not. Either way, it wasn't universally better, merely overall at best.

But the iPad Air is superior to both an iPad 2 and an iPad 3 in literally every way. There is no con that must be outweighed by a pro.

my mechanical swiss watch doesn't run out of battery & it's a 1967 model!

What does that have to do with the Apple Watch? They are completely different things. The only thing your "swiss" watch does is tell time, and possibly the date. How many photos do you have on your swiss watch? Does it show your heart rate? Have you ever sent anyone a message through your watch? I love fine watches (Japanese mechanical watches) too, but I can see the differences between these devices.

Well no point letting you know this since all you really are trying to do is get people worked up. Go back under your bridge.

they are both watches & I'm not replacing my watch with a stupid gadget! the only time I could imagine using this Iwatch **** is when I'm working out! as far as what it does is concerned I prefer to get my phone out of my pocket!

If they get the Apple Watch out by Valentine's Day, it'll be an expensive one for me :(

Do we have a buyer for the Apple Watch Edition? Yellow Gold with Red leather band, or Rose Gold with the Rose Gray leather band? :D

If it's under $2,500 I might go for the Edition.

Update: Everyone gets Thanksgiving week off except you Apple Watch programmers. You have more work to do!

Well, I'd argue that the iOS 8.0.X team should be working overtime, as well.

If you don't like it, don't buy it. I am starting to wonder if Rolex is paying you to talk down an electronic.

Everyone know's that a "real watch" is a mans jewelry. I currently own 6 Seiko watches that cost more than what the Apple watch will sell for.

I am still interested in the Apple Watch, but I am not going to give up my Seiko Watches.

Apple is releasing a toy, if you don't like it don't buy it. How much more simple can it get?

I think that this may be different, particularly if John Gruber's comments about pricing are right. They may focus primarily on improving the battery life, and/or making it slightly thinner, but not make radical changes overall. People don't replace watches on the same cycle as they do other products.

Wife wants the Rose Gold, yeah, gonna be an ass kicker of a gift. I'm simple, I want the black Apple Watch w/black metal band.
