I think the notion that Apple would ever buy AT&T is ludicrous, even more so than previous rumors that Apple would buy Sony, however, Apple has thought about creating its own wireless service before, and I can very well see them doing something like what's explained in the article below. Steve Jobs definitely hates that customer satisfaction with Apples products rely on another company. Apple's business model is to build the "whole widget" which includes all services related to the product. Some sort of Apple wireless carrier makes sense, I wouldn't be surprised if they tried something in the future.

This would be like saying Apple should buy Disney because that way they could produce all the content they wanted, in the exact way they wanted, and then sell it on iTunes for a reduced price to make customers happy. It's just the next logical step in their quest to sell content...

Clearly, either move is unlikely to happen.

Steve Jobs is on the Disney Board, and he was CEO of Pixar. I'd say there's no need to buy Disney. :D

ideas like this is the reason why you are just a dude posting on the internet

It's just logical for Apple to buy up AT&T and become a wholly integrated cell phone carrier company that makes both the phones and operates the network. This provides the maximum control that Apple desires. It will then be able to lock out everyone on the whole consumer chain and Apple will control EVERYTHING. No longer will Apple have to put SIM chips in the phone, it will just do everything through iTunes. Android phones? No way in hell.

If Apple does it right and reduces the prices for monthly plans, then I'm all in support of it. If Apple simplifies the monthly plans so that they are truly unlimited without all the extra hidden fees for basic features like caller ID, then I'm all for it.

How do you dream this cr^p?

You must have a lot of time on your hands and a great imagination. Do you know anything about business?

Apple already owns Disney - they sneaked their way in via Pixar.

This is only half a joke, since this article was written, as far as I know, Jobs has (or at least had) a seat on Disney's board of directors, as it's largest single stockholder.

Touche, and agreed. I was just thinking of one of the largest content creators in the US to illustrate a point. Given the close connection of Jobs and Disney it was perhaps a bad example. Maybe Warner Brothers would have been better to use.

Well that's just crazy talk. Why would Apple want all that headache? They got it made just the way they have it.

Why buy Verizon? That would be where Android, Blackberries, and WinPho7 go so that Apple would skirt anti-monopoly rules.

Why not buy Verizon? Verizon also carries the iPhone. Maybe Verizon instead of AT&T since you are so gung-ho buying a telecom company makes so much sense for Apple?

If Apple were JUST a national company, then this could be viable. They are an international company, shipping to many different countries. They would have to purchase basically every wireless company in the world for your plan to work.

The world is a huge place, and North America is not the center of it.

Some people just post any things to stir up things. The OP is likely un-employed and knows nothing about business, would be lucky to balance their checkbook.

This thread is dribble

If Apple wants control over the carriers, they would make moves to turn them into dumb data carriers. That is the real fate of cellular networks in the future.

i can gurentty that AT&T will never sell its Mobile division. Right now its their most profittable division. Plus, Apple buying out a single carrier would limit the market penetration to other carriers.

No way this would every happen...

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

Market cap isn't everything, in fact it's nothing. Revenue, income, profit, number of employees, total assets. Those matter. Apple couldn't buy AT&T even if they wanted to. They wouldn't buy them anyway. Silliest thread I've seen for a long time.
